He Hongxiu and Zhao Qixian's date ultimately turned into a trio. The little girl, He Wanwan, happily clung to Zhao Qixian, chattering away. 0

He Hongxiu glared at He Wanwan, her eyes turning red with jealousy. 0

"He Wanwan! You're already three years old; can't you walk on your own?" He Hongxiu said irritably. 0

He Wanwan pouted and turned to tightly wrap her arms around Zhao Qixian's neck. "Daddy, Mother is being mean to me..." Tears glistened on her eyelashes. 0

Zhao Qixian had always been defenseless against the little girl's tears. He immediately said to He Hongxiu, "She doesn't weigh much. I'm happy to carry her." 0

He Hongxiu's gaze towards He Wanwan instantly turned envious. 0

He Wanwan sniffled as she weighed the pros and cons before obediently getting down. Before He Hongxiu could praise her, she commanded Zhao Qixian, "Daddy, Wan Wan wants candied hawthorn." 0

She was teething, and the fierce He Hongxiu had strictly forbidden her from touching anything sour or sweet. 0

Zhao Qixian readily agreed. Somehow, whenever He Wanwan looked at him with her big expectant eyes, he felt an overwhelming urge to fulfill all her wishes—even if it meant reaching for the moon. 0

With his heart melting like water, Zhao Qixian walked back holding the wrapped candied hawthorn. 0

From a distance, He Hongxiu crouched down to smooth out He Wanwan's messy hair. Her focused and affectionate expression was nothing like the ruthless figure described in legends. Suddenly, he felt warmth; this gentle and homely side of He Hongxiu was something only he could see. 0

When He Wanwan spotted him, she broke free from He Hongxiu's embrace and stumbled toward his direction. 0

“Daddy, hug me!” Zhao Qixian was taken aback, and then a wave of sweetness washed over him. 0

If he had known that a candied hawthorn would be enough to turn him from "stepfather" to the real deal, he would have bought it for her long ago. 0

He Wanwan dove into someone's embrace like a fledgling bird returning to its nest. Zhao Qixian opened his arms, ready to welcome her, but froze in place. 0

He Hongxiu's face turned pale as she shouted at He Wanwan, “Come back here!” 0

The man holding He Wanwan was tall and imposing, his demeanor extraordinary. As he embraced her, his cold, frosty expression began to thaw. He leaned down and gently kissed He Wanwan's forehead. “Little girl, did you miss me?” 0

He Wanwan's cheerful voice rang out with delight, “Yes, I missed you every day! But Mother won’t let me come find you…” She glanced back nervously at He Hongxiu. 0

The man effortlessly lifted He Wanwan into his arms. “Don’t mind your mother. Shall we go back?” 0

The man known as Miao Qingshan sighed. “Hongxiu, it’s been so many years. Wan Wan is already three years old. Are you still not willing to let go of your anger?” 0

He Hongxiu could no longer contain herself, her fingers trembling with rage. “Miao Qingshan, stop right there! Where do you think you’re taking my daughter?!” 0

Miao Qingshan replied helplessly, “Hongxiu, don’t be like this. You know you’ve always been the most important woman in my life, along with Wan Wan…” 0

Zhao Qixian keenly noticed the fleeting glimmer of tears in the corner of He Hongxiu's eyes. 0

The man before him was indeed He Wanwan's biological father and He Hongxiu's former love. What kind of deep affection must they have shared for He Hongxiu to still hold onto those memories after all this time? 0

What happened back then that forced her to leave him with He Wanwan? 0

A wave of bitterness surged in Zhao Qixian's heart. From He Hongxiu's earlier behavior, it was clear she had not forgotten him. 0

But what about himself? What did he mean to her? 0

Like, but not love. 0
