Before his words could fade, Shen Gongbao and the broken crystal ball vanished into the portal. The portal closed immediately, as if it had never existed.
In an instant, only Nezha and Aunt Taiyi remained in the forest. The moonlight was still cold, but the recent battle had left the altar in ruins, a scene of chaos surrounding them.
“Taiyi Senior,” Nezha panted, “what did Shen Gongbao mean by ‘the true secret’? What is his ultimate goal?”
Aunt Taiyi sighed and put away her feather duster. “Shen Gongbao is ambitious and difficult to read. Reviving Lady Shiji may only be part of his plan, not the entirety.”
“What about the Li Yang Sect?” Nezha pressed on. “Will they really come after me?”
“The enmity between the Li Yang Sect and the Dragon Tribe has a long history,” Aunt Taiyi explained. “Now that you’ve disrupted their plan to resurrect their leader, you will indeed become their target. But don’t worry; with me around, they won’t dare to act recklessly.”
Nezha fell silent for a moment before suddenly realizing something. “Wait, if the Li Yang Sect is really after me, then Ao Bing and the Dragon Tribe will also be implicated, right? After all, our relationship…”
Aunt Taiyi’s expression grew complicated. “That is indeed a concern. The Li Yang Sect might exploit your relationship with Ao Bing to further stir up discord within the Dragon Tribe. The internal situation in the Dragon Palace is already unstable; adding fuel to the fire could be disastrous…”
“What should I do?” Nezha asked in confusion. “Should I… keep my distance from Ao Bing, at least in public?”
Aunt Taiyi patted his shoulder. “This is a challenge you both need to face together. But remember, true feelings won’t change because of external pressures. For now, let’s go back and rest. Tonight’s events have been too intense; you need to recover your strength.”
On the way back to the dormitory, Nezha pondered over Shen Gongbao’s words. The truth about the Demon Orb, the power to change the world, and the threat from the Li Yang Sect—all of it weighed heavily on him, filling him with unprecedented pressure and confusion.
What worried him even more was that if Shen Gongbao spoke truly, then his relationship with Ao Bing could bring even greater trouble to the Dragon Tribe. Ao Bing was already in danger; he didn’t want to add any more burdens.
Upon returning to his dormitory, Nezha found an unread message on his phone—it was a reply from Ao Bing: “The situation is complicated right now; I can’t talk. Please be careful of Shen Gongbao; he has ulterior motives. Stay in touch; I’ll return as soon as I can.”
Seeing this message lifted Nezha’s spirits slightly. At least Ao Bing was still thinking of him and trying to keep in contact. But at the same time, it deepened his worries—Ao Bing’s situation in the Dragon Palace was likely more difficult than he had imagined.
Lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling, Nezha’s mind raced with thoughts. Tonight’s events made him truly realize for the first time the weight and complexity of his identity. He was not just an ordinary college student nor merely an "outlier" with special abilities; he was a key figure at the center of an ancient conflict.
Shen Gongbao wanted to use him, the Li Yang Sect sought to hunt him down, Aunt Taiyi aimed to protect him, and Ao Bing… Ao Bing might face even greater dangers because of him.
“Maybe Ao Bing is right,” Nezha murmured to himself. “Perhaps we really need to focus on completing our missions first before considering what comes next.”
But deep down, a voice told him that no matter how difficult the road ahead might be or how shocking the truth about the Demon Orb could be, he would not give up on his feelings for Ao Bing or his determination to protect those he loved.
As night deepened, Nezha slowly closed his eyes.
