After the call ended, Nezha let out a sigh of relief. "Dad's attitude seems much more relaxed than before. He even brought up your reforms and wants to consult you."
Ao Bing shook his head with a smile. "This shows that Uncle Li has actually been paying attention to your life and friends. He might just not be good at expressing his concern."
Nezha nodded thoughtfully, feeling both excited and anxious about the upcoming family gathering.
Early Saturday morning, Nezha and Ao Bing took a car to Nezha's home. Along the way, Nezha practiced how to communicate with his father, while Ao Bing patiently offered suggestions and encouragement.
The car stopped in front of a cozy standalone villa. Nezha took a deep breath and pressed the doorbell. The door opened quickly, revealing Lady Yin with an expectant smile on her face.
"Nezha! Ao Bing!" Lady Yin warmly embraced both of them. "Come in, lunch is already prepared. Your father went to the market early this morning to pick the freshest ingredients."
Nezha was somewhat surprised; his father rarely cooked himself. Why was he making such an effort today?
As they entered the living room, Nezha was even more astonished—the house looked completely transformed. Photos of him and Ao Bing adorned the walls, along with clippings of their various awards.
The most prominent display was a recent article from Ocean Times, boldly titled: "Child of the Demon Sphere and the Dragon Prince: A Legend Breaking a Millennia-Old Fate."
Li Jing emerged from the kitchen wearing an apron, looking somewhat comical. He smiled sheepishly, "You’re here! It’ll be ready soon. Ao Bing, I heard you prefer light dishes, so I made a few steamed dishes just for you."
Nezha was utterly bewildered; was this really the same stubborn father who rarely smiled?
At the dining table, the atmosphere was unexpectedly relaxed and cheerful. Li Jing actively asked Ao Bing about the progress of the Dragon Tribe reforms and expressed admiration for his insights, while Lady Yin showed concern for their studies and lives, her eyes filled with affection.
Throughout the meal, no one mentioned career planning, as if the previous arguments had never occurred.
After dinner, Li Jing invited Nezha to his study for a "talk." Nezha nervously followed his father into the study, bracing himself for what could be an intense debate.
To Nezha's surprise, the study had also changed dramatically—what used to be filled with business books now included many books on football tactics and coaching theories, along with several biographies of football stars that Nezha had loved as a child.
Li Jing gestured for Nezha to sit down and then took out an old box from a drawer, carefully opening it. Inside was a yellowed photograph of a young soldier in neat military attire playing football.
"This is... Dad, is this you?" Nezha asked in astonishment.
Li Jing nodded, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes. "Yes, back then I served in a special forces unit. In my spare time, I loved playing football. Our team even won the championship in the military district league."
Nezha could hardly believe his ears. "You... you liked football too? But you never told me!"
Li Jing let out a bitter laugh. "Because I didn’t want you to follow in my footsteps. I once dreamed of becoming a professional football player when I was young, but back then football wasn’t as valued as it is now. Later on, I joined the army, and playing football became just a hobby. Then..."
Li Jing extended his right leg and lightly tapped his knee, producing a dull sound. "I got injured and had to say goodbye to my football dreams completely. After retiring, I had to enter the business world to support my family and start over."
