I widened my eyes, watching the barrier approaching closer, gripping the seatback tightly, preparing for the impending impact. 0

"Bang!" The sound of metal colliding and glass shattering echoed in my ears as I felt my body tumbling inside the car, as if the entire world had flipped upside down. 0

In a daze, it seemed that the driver had shielded my head with his arm, but I still saw stars before my eyes, my vision blurred as if shrouded in mist. 0

My ears buzzed, and my mind was a chaotic mess. I tried to move my body, but found that all my muscles were unresponsive, pain radiating from every limb. 0

I turned to look at the driver; his face was covered in blood, a long gash running across his forehead, blood streaming down his cheeks and staining his eyes red. 0

His breathing was rapid and labored, each breath accompanied by painful groans. One of his arms hung limply at his side, clearly injured in the crash—likely the same arm that had protected me just moments ago. 0

At that moment, he was looking at me; gone were the earlier madness and determination in his eyes, replaced by a profound confusion and despair. His lips trembled slightly as if he wanted to say something. 0

The SWAT team quickly surrounded the scene, their footsteps and low commands piercing through the haunting silence. 0

The driver pulled out a knife with the hand that still had some movement left; the sharp blade glinted ominously. 0

"Don't move!" came the voice of the SWAT team from outside; they had noticed the knife in his hand. "Drop your weapon! Do not harm the hostage! Exit the vehicle slowly!" 0

The driver did not respond; he merely looked deeply at me. "Little girl, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you... I'm sorry... I have no way out now; dying here is my best outcome." His voice was deep and hoarse. 0

I held my breath, my heart racing in my chest. "Uncle, please don’t..." 0

Before I could finish my sentence, he raised the knife, and the SWAT team immediately reacted. 0

"No!" I shouted, but it was too late. 0

A gunshot rang out; the driver's body jolted violently as the knife slipped from his grasp. He slowly leaned to the side, an expression of relief on his face. 0

The SWAT team rushed over, forcefully prying open the mangled car door and carefully lifting me out of the vehicle. 0

Warm sunlight poured onto my face, yet I felt an overwhelming chill within me. 0

"Hui Hui! Hui Hui!" A familiar voice pulled me back from shock and pain; I lifted my head like waking from a dream to see my parents rushing towards me with worried expressions, tears streaming down my mother's face. Lily followed behind them, crying as well. 0

Before they could envelop me in their embrace, I smiled—a newborn smile—at them—the people who loved me most in this world. 0

"Dad, Mom, I want to go home..." 0

Epilogue: One Month Later 0
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. 0

I was wearing a red vest as a volunteer, moving donated supplies in and out of the welfare home. 0

In the midst of my busy work, I noticed a little boy quietly watching me, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. 0

Finally, he couldn't hold back any longer and walked up beside me, looking up and asking, "Sister, why do you have pink hair?" 0

I paused my work, crouched down, and smiled as I ruffled his fluffy little head. 0

"Because I like it! I think it looks great!" 0
