"Let him be confined at home from now on, Old Qin. Your son needs to be properly supervised. If I hear of him making things difficult for Qin Xiaoya again, I won't hold back," Jiang Chen continued.
Qin Baonan was taken aback, but he couldn't oppose it and quickly nodded in agreement. "I will definitely keep a close watch on him, not allowing him to go out, and I certainly won't let him trouble my granddaughter."
"That's best. Your granddaughter is now mine. Anyone who dares to trouble her will face severe consequences! I don't like killing, but sometimes it's necessary. Old Qin, I hope the person I have to kill in the capital won't be from your family," Jiang Chen said calmly, his tone steady yet laced with a chilling undertone.
Qin Baonan's smile became stiff; Jiang Chen's words were a blatant threat, yet he couldn't show any dissatisfaction and had to greet him with a smile. They wouldn't doubt Jiang Chen's words. While others might use threats of violence as mere intimidation, when Jiang Chen spoke of killing, he meant it.
"Qin Xiaoya being under Mr. Jiang's protection is her fortune. From now on, our family will ensure that no one troubles her again," Qin Baonan declared firmly.
Jiang Chen had come tonight to support Qin Xiaoya and remind the Qin family that she was under his protection. Disrespecting her was equivalent to disrespecting him, and the consequences would be dire. Having issued a warning, if anyone from the Qin family disregarded it, Jiang Chen would not waste words; he would simply eliminate them.
"Since Old Qin has said so, I can rest easy. Well then, I've taken enough of your time tonight; you all should get some rest. I'll take my leave now."
"Qin Xiaoya, please see me back to the hotel," Jiang Chen said.
Qin Xiaoya visibly relaxed and felt touched. Jiang Chen clearly came for her sake and to ensure she would no longer be bullied by the Qin family. As she got to know him better, she realized how valuable his concern was; it felt as if a celestial being had suddenly taken notice of an ordinary person.
After seeing Jiang Chen back to the hotel, Qin Xiaoya returned home to find her grandfather and parents still sitting in the living room.
In front of Jiang Chen, her parents felt insignificant; they weren't decision-makers in the family—everything depended on their daughter. However, seeing Qin Xiaoya getting too close to Jiang Chen made them uneasy. They didn't know much about him, and despite asking their daughter several times about him, she remained tight-lipped and unwilling to discuss anything regarding Jiang Chen.
"Grandpa, Dad, Mom, is there something you need?" Qin Xiaoya asked as she sensed their gazes upon her.
"Qin Xiaoya," her grandfather said solemnly, "I must speak frankly. This Mr. Jiang is meddling too much in our family's affairs. You should consider keeping a certain distance from him; it would be beneficial for both you and our family. Besides, serving Mr. Jiang as a maid is quite beneath your status; if word gets out, it would bring shame upon us."
Qin Baonan's tone was heavy with complexity; on one hand, he wanted to befriend Jiang Chen due to his vast influence—after all, he hoped for his own longevity with Jiang Chen's help—but on the other hand, he feared that Jiang Chen might intervene too deeply in their family's matters and eventually consume them.
"Grandpa, not just anyone can qualify to serve my Young Master as a maid. Today wasn't about him meddling; it's because he values me highly. He came here after hearing that I was being bullied," Qin Xiaoya replied with a hint of excitement and joy in her voice.
