The streetlights were sparse, and the number of pedestrians was dwindling. Yang Guangming walked quickly, glancing back occasionally. However, with Lin Mingchang's skills and experience, Yang Guangming was completely unaware that someone was following him. 0

As Yang Guangming turned into a secluded alley, Lin Mingchang suddenly sensed something was off—he could vaguely see a shadow moving deeper within the alley. Just as he was about to call out a warning, he saw a dark figure lunging at Yang Guangming from the side. 0

"Watch out!" Lin Mingchang shouted as he rushed forward. The shadow, hearing his voice, immediately changed its target and aimed to take care of Lin Mingchang first. 0

In the dim light, Lin Mingchang caught a glimpse of a glinting object in the assailant's hand—it was a dagger. He sidestepped to evade while raising his hand to block, but still felt a sharp pain as he was grazed on the left arm. 0

Seizing the opportunity, Professor Yang escaped and vanished at the other end of the alley. The shadow saw that its target had fled and quickly retreated, blending into the darkness and disappearing from sight. 0

Lin Mingchang chased after the alley entrance for a few steps but soon realized that Yang Guangming had long since vanished. Leaning against the wall, he felt a searing pain in his left arm and had no choice but to tear off a corner of his shirt to bandage the wound before heading back to the inn. 0

Lin Mingchang couldn't understand what The Whisper of the Yellow Swan's research had touched upon... Was it worth someone going so far as to commit murder? 0

The next day, Shen Tong learned of Lin Mingchang's injury and asked a worker to help buy some hemostatic and anti-inflammatory ointments and bandages to re-dress his wound. She carefully unwrapped the cloth strips and saw the gash across his arm, her brow furrowing in concern. 0

"Fortunately, it's not deep, but it almost hit the tendons," Shen Tong said softly as she began to clean the wound. 0

"It's just a minor injury; I'm fine," Lin Mingchang replied with a grin, though he flinched when she applied the ointment. 0

Shen Tong paused and looked up at him. "Does it hurt?" 0

"No." 0

She pursed her lips slightly and suddenly increased the pressure of her touch. 0

"Ah—" Lin Mingchang inhaled sharply. "Now that really hurts." 0

"You deserve it," Shen Tong said as she lowered her head to continue bandaging. "You knew it was dangerous yet still rushed forward..." 0

Lin Mingchang looked at her profile and asked, "Are you very worried?" 0

Shen Tong didn't respond, and a sudden silence fell between them. Lin Mingchang's gaze remained fixed on Shen Tong. Just then, there was a sudden, urgent knock at the door. 0

Shen Tong stepped forward to open it, and Captain Lu hurriedly entered the room, shutting the door behind him with a grim expression that was alarming. 0

"Something has happened," Captain Lu said in a low voice as soon as he entered. 0

Lin Mingchang's heart sank. "Is it Professor Yang Guangming?" 0

Captain Lu nodded solemnly. "Yang Guangming hanged himself at home last night." 0

"Impossible!" Lin Mingchang exclaimed. "I saw him last night with Shen Tong; he was clearly..." 0

"Even though it was hanging," Captain Lu interrupted, "it is definitely not suicide. I quietly examined the body, and there was a similar needle mark on his left ear. I also found that strange tattoo on him! It must be the same killer!" 0

Shen Tong leaned in and asked quietly, "Did anyone notice anything suspicious?" 0

"No," Captain Lu shook his head. "Yesterday afternoon, Yang Guangming's wife went to the hospital to care for her mother and didn’t return home all night. Neighbors reported hearing noises from Yang Guangming's house around ten-thirty last night, but they thought he had just come home late and didn’t pay it any mind. It wasn’t until this morning when his wife returned that she discovered he had hanged himself and fainted on the spot." 0

Lin Mingchang slammed his fist on the table, struggling to contain his anger and guilt. "Three people are already dead, all with the same method. This clear evidence of murder, and the police chief still insists it's suicide?" 0
