On the day we registered our marriage, Lu Jing Shen held me tightly and whispered in my ear, "Qing Qian, from now on, I am your family. I will always protect you and never let you suffer again."
In that moment, tears streamed down my face. I thought happiness had finally come to me.
But this was just the beginning of another nightmare.
Not long after we registered our marriage, Su Wan "happened" to find out about it.
She rushed up to me, feigning concern, "Sister, you and Brother Jing Shen got married? Congratulations!" Her face wore a sweet smile, but a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
I watched her warily, feeling that her intentions were far from good.

I could hardly believe my ears. Shocked, angry, and humiliated, a whirlwind of emotions surged within me, nearly driving me to madness. "Su Wan, what are you saying? This is my wedding with Jing Shen! Why should you take my place? Who do you think you are?" I shouted, my voice rising in pitch.
Lu Jing Shen actually agreed!
He actually thought Su Wan was kind, understanding, and considerate of me, while I was being unreasonable, petty, and ungrateful!
Lu Jing Shen frowned, clearly impatient. "Qing Qian, can you stop being so selfish? Su Wan is doing this for you! Your current reputation is not suitable for holding a wedding. If you go ahead with a grand ceremony, it will only give those people more reason to attack you."
"After some time, when everyone has forgotten about this incident, we can hold a wedding that belongs only to the two of us. How about that?"
My reputation? Who ruined my reputation? Wasn't it Su Wan?
But he? He actually believed Su Wan and not me!
He clearly knew the truth and had even condemned Su Wan before.

I looked at them and felt nothing but strangeness—immense strangeness.
Are they really my family? Why would they rather believe an outsider than their own flesh and blood?
Why can't they see the true nature of Su Wan, the malice in her heart?
In this moment, I finally realized that the love and familial bonds I had longed for were nothing but an illusion.
