"What’s wrong? What are you laughing at?" I asked, confused.
Gao Jun let out a gentle sigh, looking somewhat contemplative. "It's truly unbelievable. Is it all fate? I tried so hard to keep this from you, but it seems there was no need."
"What are you talking about? What have you been hiding from me?" My confusion deepened.
"I want you to see something." Gao Jun released me and retrieved a package he had been organizing, pulling out a plastic bag from inside.
He opened the plastic bag, revealing the Murder Weapon Carving Knife on top and several pieces of clothing stained with blood underneath. So he had hidden the 'evidence' here.
Gao Jun shook out the clothes, and a pair of White Pajamas stood out prominently, splattered with a large amount of blood.
I gasped in shock, "What’s going on? These are my pajamas!"
Gao Jun nodded. "Indeed, this is what you were wearing while you slept last night. I helped you change and hid them here."
"But why is there so much blood on my clothes?" My mind was in a fog.
Gao Jun's words grew more cryptic. "Because the one who killed that murderer and avenged your parents is none other than you."
"How is that possible?! Are you joking?" I shook my head in disbelief. "Surely I would know if I did something like that!"
"You should know. You just thought of it as a dream." Gao Jun looked at me intently, as if trying to remind me of something.
My heart raced. Dream? Reality? These should be two entirely unrelated parts, yet they slowly began to merge in my mind, and the truth behind the mysteries that had been troubling me for so long was on the verge of revealing itself.
That year, I was five years old. I experienced the most painful upheaval of my life when my parents left me overnight.
My young heart could not bear such a shock, and from then on, I dared not face the darkness.
My aunt sent me to a psychiatric hospital because I began to sleepwalk. During the nights when everyone else was asleep, I would get up alone, banging on the wardrobe door, crying out, "Let me out, Daddy, let me out..."
Eventually, my condition was treated, but under stress, it was possible for it to relapse.
"I sleepwalked again, didn't I?" I asked Gao Jun. After realizing the truth, my mood surprisingly calmed down.
Gao Jun nodded. "That night, although you were asleep, your heart was still worried about the girl behind the window. This became the trigger for your condition. I watched you climb from the balcony into that room but didn’t dare wake you up, so I followed you instead. At first, I was startled by that girl's gaze, but then I discovered it was actually a Wax Figure. I was deeply shocked."
"No wonder you knew about my dreams; you were with me in them all along." I understood why Gao Jun didn’t dare to wake me. If a sleepwalker is suddenly awakened, they might not be able to handle the abrupt transition between two worlds and could risk a sudden collapse.
"Anyway, I was captivated by that Wax Figure too. You had your dreams while I brought my drawing tools to accompany you and sketch." Gao Jun chuckled innocently. "Later, you don’t even remember what you dreamed about; you crushed the wax layer on the right hand of the Wax Figure. At that moment, I felt so heartbroken but didn’t dare to stop you. From then on, I learned the secret of the Wax Figure, yet I still couldn't resist her allure."
A sweet sensation surged in my chest; Gao Jun's decision not to stop me indicated that despite his obsession with the Wax Figure, my position in his heart was still somewhat more significant.
"So those words on the wall were also written by me?" Recalling the scenes from my dreams, I speculated.
"Yes. Originally, I planned to tell you the next day. But I was afraid you'd learn the secret of the Wax Figure. After thinking it over, I decided to observe for another day before saying anything. As a result, that night you sleepwalked again."
"It's still your fault." I remembered what happened before going to bed that night. "First banging on the wardrobe and then moving the Wax Figure to the window to scare me. It’s no wonder I sleepwalked!"
Gao Jun scratched his head and said helplessly, "But I didn’t expect this time your sleepwalking would cause such a big commotion. At that moment when that person appeared at the window, you crazily grabbed a knife and stabbed at it. It scared me so much! I've always wondered why you acted like that; now it finally makes sense."
I struggled to recall the scenes from that night, trying to distinguish which were dreams, which were reality, and which were memories of the past. But these three elements had long since intertwined.
Perhaps two points can be confirmed:
In dreams and memories: Scarface peered inside from the seam of the wardrobe; in reality: Scarface appeared at the window, looking into the room.
In dreams and memories: My mother plunged a knife into the heart of her captor; in reality: I plunged a knife into Scarface's heart.
The scenes in my dreams felt so vivid because I had taken corresponding actions in reality, which is why I experienced such clarity upon waking.
My deep contemplation worried Gao Jun. He looked at me with concern and said, "Xiaoyun, why don't I accompany you to see a doctor?"
"No, it's fine. I'm okay," I replied, gently burying my head against Gao Jun's chest. "I think I won't fall ill again."
"Yes," Gao Jun said, holding me tightly, relieved. "Everything has finally come to an end."
Suddenly, I remembered something and lifted my head. "No, there's still a girl who is alone and in darkness who needs our help."
"What?" Gao Jun looked at me in surprise.
I smiled. "She's a lovely girl with a beautiful name—her name is Tong Tong."
