Liao Yangmai's refusal to submit to the Holy Witch Cult was rooted not only in his pride but also in his belief that the young man named Jiang Chen could handle the situation. Since Jiang Chen was one of the Huaxia People and the Holy Witch Cult was an external threat, Liao Yangmai had faith that Jiang Chen would not abandon them.
"Moreover, I believe that even if Mr. Jiang were to come, he might not necessarily be a match for the Holy Witch Cult," he said.
"Mr. Jiang is said to be quite young; he likely isn't a match for the Holy Witch Cult either. We, the Liao Family, cannot place our hopes on outsiders; we must rely on ourselves. Perhaps we should temporarily submit to the Holy Witch Cult and reconsider our options later?"
The discussions among the Liao Family were clear: they wanted the Clan Leader to declare allegiance to the Holy Witch Cult. After all, those with integrity were few and far between.
Listening to the debates around him, Liao Yangmai stared at the ceiling, his expression somber and his eyes filled with conflict. He was contemplating whether his steadfastness was indeed justified. His determination seemed less about family honor and more about the glory of the Huaxia People.
As Clan Leader, Liao Yangmai could sacrifice everything for his family's honor. Yet, he also possessed the spirit of the Huaxia People, making it difficult for him to submit to an alien force like the Holy Witch Cult.
Now, facing this colossal threat left him feeling helpless. If he refused to submit, his entire family would face annihilation, putting him in a dire predicament. If he allied with the Holy Witch Cult, he would feel unworthy of being called a Huaxia person. Conversely, if he continued to resist, his life would be in grave danger.
At this moment, no one had a more complicated mindset than Liao Yangmai. He had been physically tormented for days and psychologically pushed to the brink of collapse. His kin were right; he could not place all his hopes on Jiang Chen. His decisions affected not just his life but also the survival of the entire Liao Family.
"Clan Leader Liao, Director Li refuses to leave. He says if you don't see him, he'll force his way in," interrupted the Security Chief as he rushed into the room while Liao Yangmai was lost in thought.
"This is a critical time; we cannot meet with Director Li. If the Holy Witch Cult learns that we are in contact with officials, we will be in serious trouble."
"You know how Director Li is; if he says he'll force his way in, he certainly will. We can't offend him; after all, he represents the authorities."
The Liao Family spoke up again.
"Just tell him I have lost consciousness; we absolutely cannot let Director Li in. This hospital has ears from the Holy Witch Cult; every move we make is under their surveillance," Liao Yangmai insisted. He felt increasingly uncertain after hearing his family's arguments.
If Liao Yangmai had firmly decided against submission, would he still care about the Holy Witch Cult's spies?
"If Director Li insists on coming in, just close the door to my room; he won't be able to enter and will leave on his own," Liao Yangmai added.
The Security Chief returned with this message for Li Yang.
Li Yang was genuinely upset; he had come personally to visit Liao Yangmai only to find himself turned away.
"Hmph! Whether he wants to see me or not, I will see him," Li Yang said angrily as he pushed past security personnel who dared not stop him and followed him to the hospital room.
Outside the room stood a group of Liao Family members blocking the entrance. Under normal circumstances, if anyone else attempted to force their way in, given the Liao Family's usual approach, they would have ordered an immediate response. However, due to Li Yang's high status and authority, they dared not offend him and could only attempt to persuade him gently.
The entire Liao family, young and old, had gathered, leaving Li Yang helpless as he stood outside the hospital room, fuming and glaring.
