The chef from the Heavenly Court decided to quit her job.
The reason for her resignation was simple: her beloved Spoon had died, and she needed to observe a three-month mourning period during which she could not kill, wield a knife, or cook.
Coincidentally, Tao Tie and the South Sea Third Princess were set to marry in three months, which meant that the chef for the wedding banquet would have to be replaced.
However, the chefs from the East Sea had already been devoured by Tao Tie due to their unsatisfactory cooking skills, and the remaining chefs avoided Tao Tie's name like the plague. Thus, the wedding banquet became a dilemma.
The East Sea Dragon Palace was in a frenzy over this matter, while the groom-to-be, Tao Tie, remained unfazed.
The Dragon King earnestly advised, "My son, the Third Princess is watching; you must show some sincerity!"
Tao Tie scoffed, "Who says I lack sincerity? I'm just trying to convince Jiu Jiu to take up the ladle again!"
The Dragon King glanced at his precious son’s face, where a distinct footprint had been visible for several days. He wanted to say something but ultimately shook his head and sighed heavily.
Indeed, Tao Tie had thought of many ways. The first time, he approached Jiu Jiu and threatened that if she didn’t take charge of cooking, he would eat her. To his surprise, this tactic that had always worked before failed miserably now.
Jiu Jiu jumped into an enormous pot right in front of him and even kindly fetched a little fire dragon to help him start a fire. Just when he thought he could finally enjoy the delicacies he had long desired, Tao Tie panicked and kicked the fire dragon away, darkly fleeing back to the palace. Unfortunately, the startled fire dragon uncontrollably spewed flames, nearly cooking Jiu Jiu alive.
As a result, Jiu Jiu's resentment deepened even further, and even the Turtle Prime Minister who came to soothe her ended up being kicked out of the door.
Though Spoon was gone, she still had her feet and could still kick people with internal injuries.
The second time, Tao Tie swaggered into Jiu Jiu's room holding a Spoon.
Jiu Jiu broke the spoon right in front of him.
According to a reliable source, the expression on the Crown Prince's face was quite something. The one who had been bullied that day had turned the tables, leaving him so furious that he nearly suffered internal injuries.
After several such incidents, Tao Tie, who already had a bad temper, finally couldn't hold back any longer. He forcibly carried Jiu Jiu to the kitchen and ordered her to cook a bowl of Eight Treasure Porridge.
Years ago, the last dish Jiu Jiu made for Tao Tie was also Eight Treasure Porridge.
Unexpectedly, this time Jiu Jiu complied without hesitation and cooked a bowl of Eight Treasure Porridge right in front of Tao Tie. He squinted his eyes and gulped it down in one go, and then… there was nothing more to say.
Strangely enough, after that incident, Tao Tie never sought trouble with Jiu Jiu again. The dragon and the fairy coexisted peacefully for several days, seemingly adopting an attitude of never crossing paths again.
The turning point came three days before Tao Tie's wedding.
The usually arrogant South Sea Third Princess deigned to visit Jiu Jiu, adopting a condescending posture: “You’re just a cook, yet you dare to dream of climbing up to Tao Tie’s branch?”
With just one sentence, Jiu Jiu could clearly sense the hostility from her.
Not having grasped the other party's intentions, Jiu Jiu decided to hold her ground.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You just want to use your mediocre cooking skills to win over Tao Tie’s stomach,” the Third Princess sneered, her tone dripping with disdain.
Jiu Jiu thought that this Third Princess must have delusions.
Which of her eyes saw her using her cooking skills to flirt with Tao Tie? It was clearly Tao Tie who wouldn’t let her go!
"I have already investigated everything about your past with Tao Tie. You are nothing but a cook; once Tao Tie grows tired of your culinary skills, you will mean nothing to him, not even worthy of being eaten. Five hundred years ago, he drove you away, so how dare you shamelessly cling to him again? Trying to compete with me for the title of East Sea Consort, you should really take a look at yourself and know your worth."
The Third Princess grew more and more furious, her face turning red.
Being at someone else's mercy was never Jiu Jiu's style. She reached for a broken Spoon nearby and, in a flash, hurled it towards the Third Princess's face. "It's a pity I didn't hit you last time!"
Fortunately, she hadn’t thrown away the Spoon that Tao Tie had given her; it came in handy this time.
"Also, has your brain been eaten by Tao Tie? Oh no, wait, your brain probably just whets his appetite," Jiu Jiu said coldly, her gaze filled with disdain.
"You!" The Third Princess trembled with rage but was at a loss for words.
"Lastly, make it clear: it wasn't Tao Tie who drove me away; it was I who no longer wanted him!" Jiu Jiu's voice was not loud, but it carried an undeniable firmness.
The Third Princess laughed in anger: "Ha? What kind of joke is that?"
At that moment, a figure floated in from outside the door. "She is not joking; indeed, I no longer want her."
Tao Tie's voice was calm like still water but carried an underlying chill.
"I would certainly eat you," he said with a slight smile, though his eyes were as cold as ice.
