"I am also curious why he invited us for drinks tonight. Has he finally come to his senses and decided not to oppose us, the Holy Witch Cult?" Zou Konghu looked up at the tavern in front of him and laughed arrogantly.
Meanwhile, on the upper floor of the tavern, Jiang Chen and his companions stood on the balcony, spotting Zou Konghu and his group. Their gazes met across several meters, like two beams of light colliding. Jiang Chen's expression was calm, while Zou Konghu's was sharp. After a brief moment of eye contact, Zou Konghu stepped into the tavern.
"Mr. Jiang, wait a moment. You’re not really planning to make a move, are you?" Li Yang asked, a hint of concern in his voice. After all, Xiangxi was under his jurisdiction. If Jiang Chen were to confront the Holy Witch Cult here in Fenglin City and countless people witnessed it, he wouldn't know how to explain it later. Was this some kind of movie?
"That depends on whether they behave themselves," Jiang Chen replied with a smile as he turned and took a seat.
"You all should sit down as well," Jiang Chen said.
Li Yang and the others exchanged glances, suddenly realizing something was off. There was only one large table in the room, but it had only a dozen chairs set around it. Once Jiang Chen and his companions sat down, there were no extra chairs left.
Inviting the Holy Witch Cult members to dine without providing them seats was clearly an invitation for trouble.
"Director Li, former Chief, everyone take a seat. Mr. Jiang has his own plans," Liao Yangmai said with a smile. He trusted Li Haifeng and thus had faith in Jiang Chen as well.
Li Yang felt it was best not to say anything further. He sat down anxiously, not so much out of fear that Jiang Chen would clash with the Holy Witch Cult members but rather from concern about causing a scene that would be difficult to explain to the public.
After a while, members of the Holy Witch Cult, along with Shi Tao Di and others, pushed the door open and entered.
As soon as they stepped into the room, Zou Konghu and Shi Tao Di spotted Jiang Chen and his companions seated at the table but could not find any seats for themselves upon surveying the room.
Moreover, Shi Tao Di had thought Liao Yangmai was in a wheelchair due to his disability; after all, they had witnessed him being incapacitated firsthand. To their surprise, Liao Yangmai was sitting comfortably in a chair, smiling as he sipped tea.
"Liao Yangmai, how come you're fine? Weren't you paralyzed?" Shi Tao Di frowned in astonishment.
"You’re still alive; how could I be bedridden?" Liao Yangmai retorted cheerfully with confidence.
"I think you're just tired of living. Can't you see the elders of the Holy Witch Cult are here? Everyone stand up! Show some respect!" Shi Tao Di barked imperiously.
"I think you’re the one who’s tired of living. Can’t you see who’s sitting next to me?" Liao Yangmai shot back coldly.
Shi Tao Di glanced at Jiang Chen—a mere young man who might just be what Liao Yangmai referred to as an expert! However, with several powerful elders from the Holy Witch Cult by his side, Shi Tao Di felt emboldened.
"Liao Yangmai, is this kid really your so-called expert? He looks like he can barely protect himself; how could he save you?" Shi Tao Di laughed triumphantly before turning to Zou Konghu. "Elder Zou, this kid is so young yet so arrogant; he doesn’t even stand up to greet you."
Zou Konghu's dark gaze swept over everyone at the table—Ye Xiaoying, Zeng Xianyi, Liu Liangmei—and he could roughly gauge their strengths. But when he looked at Jiang Chen, it felt like staring into an abyss; he couldn't see the bottom at all.
However, he didn't dwell on it too much; after all, Jiang Chen was just a young man. If he took him too seriously, wouldn’t that be beneath him?
