Seeing Jiang Chen's serious expression, everyone at the dining table was momentarily stunned, unsure of what to say.
"Mr. Jiang, are the immortals you speak of the ones from mythology? They are said to exist alongside heaven and earth. No one on Earth has ever discovered such beings. If they can't even live for a few hundred years, how can they be considered immortals?" Li Yang asked.
"Old Li, your standards for immortals are quite high," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
To him, only those who could live alongside heaven and earth could be called immortals, which made him feel somewhat embarrassed. Eternity was also what Jiang Chen pursued, but achieving it was incredibly difficult. Some even claimed that true immortals did not exist in this universe; once they reached the pinnacle of their cultivation, they would merge with the Dao and then reincarnate as humans.
However, Jiang Chen believed that true eternity existed in this universe. He thought that merging with the Dao was a kind of trial; if one could not pass it, they would merge into the Dao and reincarnate. If they succeeded, they could live alongside heaven and earth and attain eternal enlightenment.
There was no need for Jiang Chen to explain this to Zeng Xianyi or Li Yang.
"So what kind of person does Mr. Jiang think can be called an immortal?" Li Yang asked curiously.
"There are different levels among people, and the same goes for immortals. Old Li, the kind you mentioned—living alongside heaven and earth—might refer to figures like the Jade Emperor or Buddha. But what about lesser deities like Tu Di Gong or Mountain God? Can’t they be considered immortals?" Jiang Chen illustrated with examples from Earth's legends.
"Uh, Mr. Jiang has a point," Li Yang nodded thoughtfully. Upon reflection, it made sense.
"In fact, a powerful figure at the level of Martial Arts Divine Realm would be seen as an immortal by ordinary people. On Earth, Transcendent Realm is considered the pinnacle of martial arts. But do you know what lies beyond Transcendent Realm?" Jiang Chen said slowly.
"Above Transcendent Realm? It seems no one on Earth has ever reached that," Li Yang replied.
"Someone must have reached it. Take the sword path for instance; although everyone currently believes I am the Hua Xia Sword Saint and have reached the peak of swordsmanship, after seeing the Sword Manual left by the Sword Immortal at the Sword Immortal Ruins in Qinling, I realized that my swordsmanship is insignificant compared to a true Sword Immortal. So I agree with Mr. Jiang; there are indeed immortals in this world, and the pinnacle of martial arts is stepping into the Immortal Path," Ye Xiaoying added. She felt that Jiang Chen was an immortal; otherwise, how could such a young person be so powerful?
Jiang Chen's strength seemed almost unreasonable, but if he were regarded as an immortal, everything suddenly made sense.
"Step into the Immortal Path? Does that mean after martial arts comes cultivation?" Li Yang and others stared at Jiang Chen in shock.
Many martial artists were aware of this notion; however, for most people, even stepping into Divine Realm seemed unlikely in their lifetime, let alone reaching Transcendent Realm and then attaining the pinnacle of martial arts. As for what lay beyond that pinnacle, no one dared to even think about it.
"You could say that; in fact, Earth’s martial arts heritage is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cultivation," Jiang Chen nodded.
"Then what about our Huaxia legends about immortals? Are texts like Shan Hai Jing and Feng Shen real?" Li Yang and others were utterly astonished.
"Gods and demons certainly exist in the universe, but as for whether those stories in Feng Shen and Liaozhai are true or not—that remains uncertain," Jiang Chen smiled.
