The two stood on the deck, locked in a tense standoff, unwilling to yield to one another. Just as the stalemate continued, a voice suddenly emerged from the boat behind Liao Yangmai.
"Since you are unwilling to board and speak with me, then you are of no use to me."
As the voice faded, Shi Tao Di's boat emitted a sharp cracking sound. Shi Tao Di was taken aback, looking down at the deck beneath him, which had already begun to splinter with large cracks.
"What... what is happening?" Shi Tao Di exclaimed in shock. Before he could ponder further, water rushed into the boat, causing it to capsize.
Inside the cabin of the boat, members of the Holy Witch Cult, who had been leisurely sipping tea and waiting for Jiang Chen to come and seek them out so they could humiliate him, were caught off guard by the sudden disaster.
Luo Baihao, who was sitting upright and waiting for Jiang Chen's arrival, broke through a window as the boat tipped over. Sang Xiang and others also smashed through the top of the boat and fled in a panic.
For Luo Baihao and his skilled companions, the explosion of the boat had little impact; they could stand on the wooden planks or even directly on the water's surface. However, Shi Tao Di and his Shi Family members lacked such abilities.
"Plop..."
"Glug..."
Shi Tao Di and his companions struggled in the water, swallowing quite a bit of river water.
Liao Yangmai and his group stood on the capsized boat, feeling an unexpected sense of relief.
"Shi Tao Di, you people are not qualified to negotiate terms with Mr. Jiang. Which one of you is the Saint Witch Sect Leader? Mr. Jiang has invited you aboard for a chat; don't be rude," Liao Yangmai shouted as over twenty members of the Holy Witch Cult stood on the water's surface in the dim light.
"Let him come out to see me," a deep voice suddenly resonated.
As the voice fell, a towering column of water surged up from the river, reaching ten meters high and crashing toward Liao Yangmai's boat.
Liao Yangmai's expression changed dramatically as he shouted, "Mr. Jiang!"
As the water column approached, a faint glow appeared around the boat. When it collided with an invisible barrier, it transformed into flowing water that fell back into the river without splashing a single drop onto the boat.
Realizing that Jiang Chen had intervened, Liao Yangmai felt his worries dissipate. He coldly remarked, "Hmph! Members of the Holy Witch Cult, you are courting death. Mr. Jiang's patience is limited; if you continue to be uncooperative, you won't even know how you died."
Luo Baihao stood on the water's surface without much surprise; he had merely tested Jiang Chen's capabilities. If Jiang Chen couldn't handle such a casual probe from him, then he would truly be astonished.
"Then I shall have a proper chat with this Mr. Jiang," Luo Baihao said as he lightly leaped onto the deck.
Liao Yangmai and his companions were startled and quickly retreated, huddling together to watch this elder from the Holy Witch Cult.
In the night shadows, Luo Baihao lowered his hood, revealing a gaunt face that looked as if it had been carved from stone. His piercing gaze swept over Liao Yangmai; despite having Jiang Chen as support, Liao Yangmai felt an inexplicable sense of dread under Luo Baihao's scrutiny. His instincts warned him that this Saint Witch Sect Leader was not someone to be trifled with.
"Bring them all up," Luo Baihao commanded Liao Yangmai.
Naturally, "them" referred to Shi Tao Di and the others from the Shi Family. To Luo Baihao's surprise, Liao Yangmai did not object but simply nodded in agreement.
Liao Yangmai lowered the suspended ladder, and one by one, Shi Tao Di and the others climbed onto the painted boat, looking like drenched chickens. Fortunately, it wasn't winter yet; otherwise, they would have frozen to death.
