Upon entering the private room, I found it already filled with people. After a round of pleasantries, Su Qing and I found an empty seat and sat down. I couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was watching me, making me a bit uncomfortable. I glanced around but saw nothing unusual, nor did I spot Ji Yan. 0

"Class monitor, where's the main character?" I asked. 0

The class monitor pointed beside me, "Look, he's right next to you! You've been desk mates for three years; don't you recognize him?" 0

I turned sharply to my side and saw a man in a simple white shirt, exuding a cool demeanor. His chiseled face and deep-set eyes… this was… 0

"Ji Yan?" I was taken aback. 0

He turned his head slightly, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Lin Xi, long time no see." 0

I felt a bit embarrassed. "Sorry, you've changed so much that I didn't recognize you." Back in high school, he was quite chubby; although he was well-liked, he wasn't exactly handsome. Now he definitely had the aura of a heartthrob. 0

Someone nearby teased, "Lin Xi, it's normal not to recognize him; we were all shocked when we first saw him! Who would have thought our brother Ji would slim down and turn out to be such a potential star?" 0

"And now he's like a domineering CEO; how could his aura be the same?" 0

0

The meal was lively. Ji Yan didn't say much but subtly served me food and poured drinks. I felt a little shy and attributed it to the kindness of an old classmate. 0

For three years in high school, we were desk mates. Back then, he was a chubby kid with a strong sense of loyalty; everyone called him brother Ji. I was introverted and not particularly close to him. He usually slept through math class while I used his broad back as cover to doodle. Looking back now, those memories are quite nostalgic. 0

After dinner, someone suggested going karaoke. Su Qing, being unreliable as ever, actually ditched me to join the crowd. 0

Having had a few drinks, I stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi. A black Maybach silently pulled up in front of me, and the window rolled down to reveal Ji Yan's face. 0

"Get in; I'll give you a ride," he said casually. 0

Considering it would be inconvenient to hail a cab at this hour, I didn’t hesitate and opened the door to sit in the passenger seat. 0

"Thank you." 0

He started the car and glanced at me. "Address?" 0

"I'll enter it myself." I typed my new home address into the navigation system. 0

The car was quiet as we drove past an intersection when he suddenly spoke up, "Why didn't you bring your partner today?" 0

I paused, caught off guard by his question. 0

He continued, "Is he busy? Too busy to pick up his wife?" 0

"I have divorced," I said. 0

As soon as the words left my mouth, I thought I saw the corners of his lips lift ever so slightly. Was it just my imagination? 0

To break the awkwardness, I asked, "Are you back for good or just on a business trip?" 0

He stared ahead, his voice calm and indifferent. "What do you hope it is?" 0

That question caught me off guard. I forced a laugh. "Well, as an old classmate, I certainly hope you'll stay longer." 0

His tone seemed to lighten a bit. "Yeah, I'm opening a branch office here, so I won't be leaving for a while." 0

"That's great." 0

The car fell silent again. I felt a bit tired and leaned back against the seat, drifting off to sleep without realizing it. 0

When I woke up, the car had come to a stop. Looking out the window, I saw that we had arrived home. 0

"Sorry, I fell asleep," I said, feeling a bit embarrassed. 0

"No problem, we just got here," he replied steadily. 0

I unbuckled my seatbelt. "Thanks for today; let me treat you to dinner another time." 0

As I was about to get out of the car, he suddenly said, "Want to come in for a glass of water?" 0

I paused and turned to look at him. His gaze was sincere, not joking at all. It felt wrong to refuse. 0

"…Sure." 0

Following Ji Yan inside felt strange. This was the first time a man had entered my home. 0

I invited him to sit in the living room while I went to the kitchen to pour some water. When I returned, I found him standing in front of an unfinished painting of mine, lost in thought. 0
