Rain wore a confused and innocent expression, his brows slightly furrowed, and a hint of bewilderment in his eyes, as if he had no idea what Carter was talking about. 0

"What... Keisha?" He blinked, his tone laced with uncertainty. "Who is she?" 0

The air in the room instantly dropped to freezing point. 0

Carter's anger erupted at that moment! 0

He abruptly lifted his leg and kicked over a nearby chair, the wooden seat crashing heavily to the floor with a deafening sound, causing everything in the room to tremble slightly. 0

"She is one of your Volunteers! She is the one who ran through the streets for you, handing out flyers, organizing documents, working like a dog for you!" 0

Carter's voice roared like an injured beast, his eyes bloodshot as if he wanted to tear the man before him to shreds. 0

Rain remained seated, looking at him with indifference, as if watching a farcical play. Then he turned to glance at the secretary standing nearby, as if seeking confirmation. 0

The secretary adjusted her glasses, her face expressionless, simply nodding slightly. 0

"Alright, I understand now, Carter." Rain finally looked back at Carter, his tone calming down and carrying an almost condescending patience. "But I need you to calm down right now." 0

"Calm down?" 0

A glint of madness flashed in Carter's eyes; his lips trembled slightly as if he had just heard the funniest joke in the world. 0

"You want me to calm down?!" 0

He slammed his hand heavily on Rain's desk with a loud bang that nearly sent the documents flying off. 0

"Keisha is dead! She died in this godforsaken city, she died in your so-called 'future,' she died at the hands of those Social Cancer you allowed to thrive!" 0

"This is all your fault!" 0

"You let those robbers, those gangs, those thugs continue to run rampant in this city!" 0

"You told these people that after the Election, they could still live however they wanted, that they could trample on us, the damned lower class!" 0

"It’s you, Rain!" 0

"You let this city rot into this hellhole, and then you ask me if I should calm down?!" 0

Carter's fists were clenched tightly, knuckles turning white, veins bulging on his forehead; he was on the brink of fury. 0

The temperature in the room seemed to spike instantly. Rain's expression shifted from indifference to darkness, and finally erupted under Carter's endless tirade. 0

"Enough!" 0

Rain shot up from his chair, slamming his hand on the table hard enough to make the water glasses shake and nearly topple over. 0

His gaze was no longer calm and composed; it burned with a fiery rage. The smile that once graced his lips vanished, replaced by a near-manic anger. 0

"It's because of naive fools like you and those worthless lowlifes that this city has become what it is!" 0

"You think you know how this world works?! You think that just by getting rid of all the 'bad people,' society can be clean? Do you really think this city's filth is my doing?!" 0

"No, Carter, this city has always been rotten! It has long been a goddamn dump, filled with greed, selfishness, violence, and corruption!" 0

"I’m just smarter and stronger than others, knowing how to survive better in this damn world!" 0

Rain's finger jabbed forcefully at Carter, his gaze sharp as a knife, filled with mockery and anger. 0

"Who the hell do you think you are?" 0

"Just because a woman died, you come here to roar at me? You think that by standing here shouting, I’ll feel guilty? Do you really believe this world will change because of her death?!" 0

"She was just one of the countless unfortunate souls in this city. Her death is no different from those who are shot, robbed, raped, or discarded every day; it’s merely part of how the city operates! She doesn’t matter at all!" 0

Carter's fists clenched tightly, veins bulging, his entire being nearly igniting with rage. 0

Rain looked at him, gritting his teeth, mercilessly continuing to stab at his heart. 0

"Why don’t you think about who allowed you to live this kind of life?" 0

"It’s me, Carter. I turned you from a useless security guard into what you are now. I gave you money to earn, a job to do, and value! It was me who gave you an 'identity,' making you someone of significance in this city!" 0

"You really think you can do without me? What do you think you'll accomplish if you leave me?!" 0

"Are you going back to being a lowly security guard? Back to that damn rundown apartment, watching over your Veteran friends while complaining about the world and drinking cheap booze?" 0

"Or are you going to hit the streets like those bottom-dwellers, holding up signs protesting? Do you think that will change anything?!" 0

Rain's tone grew increasingly intense, his eyes flashing with anger and arrogance as he looked at Carter's twisted face and scoffed with deep disdain. 0

"You better think carefully; is this how you speak to me?" 0

"Do you dare to turn against me? Do you think you have the right to do so?" 0

"Don't forget, Carter, everything you have now is because of me. I can take it all back at any moment!" 0

Rain pointed at himself fiercely, his tone arrogant and filled with threat. His voice boomed like thunder, shaking the entire room. 0

"If you dare to oppose me, just wait to go down with Keisha!" 0

As soon as the words left his mouth, the room fell into a deathly silence. 0

Carter stood frozen in place, his shoulders heaving violently, his eyes bloodshot, trembling all over. 0

He could no longer think; only boundless rage and murderous intent surged within him, like a beast ready to tear apart its cage. 0

Rain's words were the last straw that broke Carter's sanity, shattering his reason in an instant. 0

He lunged forward, grabbing Rain by the collar of his shirt and forcefully slamming him down onto the table. Papers, notebooks, and teacups scattered everywhere, water splashing out like a sudden storm! 0

"You son of a bitch!" 0

Carter's roar shook the entire office. Rain's head slammed hard against the table, and the shock on his face quickly turned to terror. He struggled to rise, but Carter's grip was like a steel vice around his throat, leaving him unable to utter a single word! 0

"Cough—cough...!" Rain's face turned crimson as he clawed desperately at Carter's arm, trying to break free. Items on the table crashed to the floor with a deafening clatter. 0

"Carter! Stop!" 0

The secretary was taken aback and rushed forward in an attempt to pull Carter away, but Carter didn't give him a chance. He swiftly kicked backward into the secretary's stomach! 0

"Get away!" 0

"Ugh—!" The secretary was kicked across the room, crashing heavily against the office wall before collapsing to the floor, curling up in pain and gasping for breath while clutching his abdomen. 0

Rain's eyes were filled with terror; in that moment, he truly realized—Carter had lost his mind, and this man was really going to kill him! 0

He gasped for air, his legs thrashing wildly, and his hands desperately pounded the table as he tried to force out a sound: "Cough... cough... Carter... calm down..." 0

"Now you tell me to calm down?" 0

Carter's gaze held no trace of reason, only pure rage and hatred. He swung his fist violently, crashing it down towards Rain's face— 0

"Bang!" 0

With a dull thud, Rain's head snapped to the side, his lip instantly splitting open as a stream of bright red blood trickled down. His body convulsed slightly, letting out a muffled groan of pain. 0

Carter's fist didn't loosen; instead, he tightened his grip on Rain's collar and leaned down, glaring at him like a beast from hell. Gritting his teeth, he forced out a low growl from deep within his throat— 0

"Keisha is dead, and yet you can still live so well..." 0

"Tell me, is that fair?" 0
