The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
Ten Thousand Swords in One thought for a moment and nodded, saying, "That's fine. The remnants of the Demonic Cult have mostly retreated, and the Azure Cloud Foothills have basically been cleared. It should be safe for you to go there."
Zhang Laotou pulled his grandson and repeatedly thanked Ten Thousand Swords in One, then bowed to the four people around him before turning to walk towards the village entrance.
However, at that moment, Zeng Shuchang, who was standing aside, suddenly stepped forward and said to Ten Thousand Swords in One, "Brother Wan, although Caomiao Village is safe, I fear there may still be Demonic Cult Monsters lurking along the way. It might still be somewhat dangerous for the two of them to travel."
Ten Thousand Swords in One replied with an "mm," saying, "That's indeed the case. How about this: let's save them completely. Senior Brother Zeng and Tian Shidi, each of you take one of them and fly to Caomiao Village on your swords, then come back immediately. Be careful to avoid the eyes of the Demonic Cult Monsters along the way. The three of us will wait here for your return. Is that alright?"
Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang both nodded solemnly and said, "Yes."
Ten Thousand Swords in One smiled slightly and said, "Go ahead."
Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang then turned to the side of Zhang Laotou and his grandson. They had heard what was said earlier, and Zhang Laotou was naturally extremely grateful. Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang smiled as they reassured them with a few words, telling them not to be afraid while in the air and not to move around too much. Then Tian Buyi took hold of Zhang Laotou, while Zeng Shuchang took hold of the Zhang Family Grandson. Both raised their swords and soared into the sky. After a moment, they turned in mid-air and sped towards the direction of the Azure Cloud Mountain Range.
Both Zhang Laotou and his grandson were ordinary mortals without any cultivation experience; it was their first time flying through the air. Although Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang had given them instructions beforehand, once they were high up, they still showed signs of panic. While Zhang Laotou managed to control himself despite his fear, the young boy was terrified and began to cry loudly, causing Zeng Shuchang, who was holding him, to become flustered.
Fortunately, both Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang were accomplished disciples of Azure Cloud; although it was somewhat troublesome, they managed to handle it well. They comforted them while speeding through the clouds, navigating around mountains until they finally spotted the village beneath the Azure Cloud Foothills.
The two hurriedly descended and placed the grandfather and grandson just outside the village entrance before finally letting out a sigh of relief.
Elder Zhang appeared somewhat weak in his legs, while surprisingly, after initially crying out loud, the young boy had calmed down completely as if nothing had happened, which was quite astonishing.
After resting for a moment, Elder Zhang once again thanked his grandson before bowing to Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang. The two smiled in return before watching as these two survivors turned to walk into the peaceful village.
Once their figures completely disappeared from sight, Tian Buyi turned around and suddenly noticed a dilapidated temple not far from outside the village. He walked over to take a look and saw that this Grass Temple Village was very run-down; even its walls had several large holes in them, giving it a desolate appearance. He turned to smile at Zeng Shuchang, saying, "Could it be that this village's name comes from this Grass Temple Village?"
Zeng Shuchang shrugged and replied, "Perhaps so. The villagers living in these villages at the foot of the mountain are all honest folks; it's not uncommon for them to use such simple names."
Tian Buyi suddenly thought of something and said to Zeng Shuchang, "But if that's the case, there's a dilapidated temple, so it's called Caomiao Village. Then what about the village we just arrived at? Why is it called Grass Shoe Village? Did they once have a broken straw shoe there?"
Zeng Shuchang scoffed and looked at Tian Buyi as if he were an idiot. Then he said seriously, "How can you be so foolish? A straw shoe doesn't come in one; it's always a pair! So that village must have had two broken straw shoes."
"So, it means that someone must have thrown two broken shoes into that village before, which is why it's called Grass Shoe Village?"
"That's possible!"
"Who threw them?"
"Who knows? Maybe the local villagers or some passerby? It could even have been one of our Azure Cloud Sect's ancestors who threw them..."
"…"
Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang stared at each other, suddenly falling silent. After a moment, Tian Buyi covered his eyes with his hand, seemingly unable to look directly at his friend anymore, and said, "…Forget it, let's not talk about this silly stuff. If someone hears us and reports back to the mountain, we’ll be punished to kneel in Qiu Wangyu for decades."
Zeng Shuchang laughed heartily but then seemed to sigh a bit. "By the way, I forgot to ask that child's name earlier."
Tian Buyi asked, "What about it?"
Zeng Shuchang replied, "Although the child was scared and crying at first, he calmed down after a while. He seems to be a good-natured kid, and he's quite polite for his age. I really like him."
Tian Buyi waved his hand and said, "Come on now, how old are you? You're still a young disciple in the Sect; you can't just take someone as your apprentice!"
Zeng Shuchang thought for a moment and nodded. "That's true." He then glanced back at the village with a hint of regret on his face.
Tian Buyi looked at him and smiled. "You really like kids, huh?"
Zeng Shuchang revealed a hint of a smile and nodded, saying, "Well, yes. I wonder what our children will be like if we find our partners in the future?" He clicked his tongue twice, looking quite expectant.
Tian Buyi laughed heartily and said, "You're thinking far ahead. How about this: if we both have children in the future, let's have them become sworn brothers!"
Zeng Shuchang turned to look at him and smiled, "What if it's a boy and a girl?"
Tian Buyi stroked his chin and replied, "Then let's arrange a betrothal!"
Zeng Shuchang said seriously, "No way."
Tian Buyi was taken aback and asked in surprise, "Why not?"
Zeng Shuchang walked forward with his hands behind his back while casually saying, "If everyone has boys as brothers, that's fine. But if I have a son and you have a daughter, and that daughter looks like you, I can't let my own child suffer."
Tian Buyi stood there for a while, deep in thought. Suddenly realizing what Zeng Shuchang meant, he became furious and rushed over to kick Zeng Shuchang's backside while shouting, "Get lost! Even if I have a daughter in the future, I definitely won't let her marry you—don't dream about it!"
Zeng Shuchang laughed heartily and dodged aside while waving his hand, "Alright, let's go. Wan Shixiong and the others are still waiting for us at Grass Shoe Village; we shouldn't keep them waiting too long."
Tian Buyi cursed him a couple more times before both of them summoned their swords and soared into the air again, flying towards Grass Shoe Village. However, while they were in mid-air, Zeng Shuchang led with his yellow sword light in front, and Tian Buyi followed behind. At that moment, he suddenly turned to gaze at the majestic Azure Cloud Peak with deep eyes, seemingly filled with nostalgia.
