The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
A light shout was heard, and Ten Thousand Swords in One and the others immediately stood up and walked over to his side, holding their breath and focusing intently. Sure enough, after a short while, they heard some commotion coming from the other end of the stone forest, as if someone had arrived from afar to rest there.
Gradually, some voices drifted over, but they were low and not very clear.
Ten Thousand Swords in One listened intently for a moment before signaling to Azure Pine and the others. The other four understood and nodded in agreement. They then used the various strange rocks in the stone forest for cover and quietly approached that direction.
In this area near the edge of the desolate wilderness, there were rarely any people from the Middle-earth Righteous Path. Moreover, since the demonic sect had just suffered a defeat at Azure Cloud Mountain, it was likely that those appearing nearby were remnants of the demonic sect.
As expected, after circling around a section of stone path, Ten Thousand Swords in One and his companions saw three men dressed in demonic sect clothing resting at the other end of the stone forest. Coincidentally, these three were their old acquaintances: Bai Duzai, Duanmu Tie, and Vampire Demon, who had escaped from Grass Shoe Village that day.
This discovery surprised Azure Pine and the others. They exchanged glances, unsure why these three would be here. However, judging by their appearance, they likely intended to escape back to the Barbaric Sacred Hall of the demonic sect. Thus, everyone's gaze quickly turned to Ten Thousand Swords in One, silently asking whether they should capture these three stragglers. Especially Zeng Shuchang and Shang Zhengliang, who looked eager to take action.
However, after pondering for a moment, Ten Thousand Swords in One raised his hand slightly to signal them not to rush forward. Just then, voices from the three men reached them.
Duanmu Tie said, “Hundred Poisons Sect brother, do you really think that Poison God senior will take us brothers under his wing?”
Bai Duzai replied, “With your two strengths and my recommendation, I believe the sect leader will not refuse. Our Holy Sect has just suffered defeat; with our leader deceased and morale scattered among our people, it is indeed a time for talent. You two coming over will be of great use.”
A low voice came from beside them; it was Vampire Demon. He said, “But my treasure, Blood Skull, was destroyed by that guy Ten Thousand Swords in One. Now my abilities have been reduced to half; I fear even if I reach the Sanctuary, Poison God sect leader may not look favorably upon me.”
Bai Duzai paused for a moment and said, “If your treasure is lost, we can forge another one.”
Vampire Demon did not respond. After a moment of silence, Duanmu Tie spoke to Bai Duzai: “Brother of the Hundred Poisons Sect, we have known each other for many years, even longer than your time in the Wandu Sect. Now, tell us the truth, what is the purpose of the Wandu Sect recruiting so aggressively these days?”
Bai Duzai frowned and said, “I’m not too sure about this either. You both know that I am neither a trusted confidant of the Sect Leader nor do I have any backing from a master. I was only brought into the Wandu Sect because of my skills in poison control that caught the Sect Leader’s attention. However…”
As he spoke halfway, Bai Duzai suddenly seemed to remember something, and his speech hesitated slightly.
Duanmu Tie quickly pressed, “What is it?”
Vampire Demon also chimed in, “Is there something wrong?”
Bai Duzai thought for a moment and said to both of them, “It’s not that, but there has been a rumor circulating privately in the Wandu Sect these days that the Sect Leader seems to have the intention of reopening ‘Mingyuan’.”
Both Duanmu Tie and Vampire Demon were taken aback and exclaimed, “What?”
In the distance, Ten Thousand Swords in One, along with Azure Pine, Tian Buyi, and three others were also stunned. They had never heard of the term Mingyuan, but judging by the expressions and words of the three remnants of the demonic sect, it seemed to be quite significant.
Bai Duzai continued, “Mingyuan is a forbidden area in the Sanctuary, mysterious and strange. It has been sealed shut since ancient times but was suddenly opened twenty years ago. However, for some reason, it only allowed one person to enter. In the end, it was Qiu Wangyu, the leader of the sect, who entered alone and obtained immense opportunities within Mingyuan, which led to his unification of the Holy Sect, resulting in the prosperous situation we have seen over these past twenty years.”
Duanmu Tie nodded and said, “We all know about this. It is said that back then, Reverend Qiu made a solemn vow before the deities Holy Mother and Ming Wang in the Sanctuary, pledging great ambitions. He then sat in front of the Barbaric Sacred Hall and Shura Tower for seven years. One day, an unusual phenomenon occurred that shook the wilderness; Mingyuan opened up, allowing only Reverend Qiu to enter while others were left out. It truly is hard to comprehend.”
Bai Duzai smiled and said, “As for what happened back then, we can only rely on hearsay; it cannot be taken as truth. However, over these years, only Reverend Qiu has ever entered Mingyuan. Moreover, I have heard some seniors in our sect discussing privately that Mingyuan is indeed the source of our Holy Sect. Whenever a talented individual enters it, they can become an unparalleled master and thus revive our great cause.”
Upon hearing this, Duanmu Tie also laughed and said, “It seems that even Senior Poison God wants to enter and achieve something?”
Bai Duzai shrugged and said, "Who wouldn't want that?"
The three of them laughed.
Vampire Demon said, "Have you Wandu Sect already found a way to open Mingyuan? I remember that only Reverend Qiu knew this method, and now that Reverend Qiu has passed away, how can you open it?"
Bai Duzai replied, "This is beyond what I know. Well, I've said my piece; whether you two are going to Sanctuary or joining my Wandu Sect, please give me a clear answer."
Duanmu Tie and Vampire Demon exchanged glances. Just as they were about to speak, a cold laugh suddenly came from behind the stone forest. Someone said, "Whether you go or not, it doesn't matter to you anymore."
Bai Duzai and the others were startled and jumped up, turning to look. They saw five people emerging from behind a large rock; it was Ten Thousand Swords in One and other Azure Cloud Disciples. They had dealt with Ten Thousand Swords in One quite a bit lately, especially Duanmu Tie and Vampire Duo, who had suffered greatly under him. Upon seeing him, their faces turned pale.
Bai Duzai managed to maintain some composure, but he looked somewhat guilty and instinctively took a few steps back while angrily saying, "Ten Thousand Swords in One, why are you clinging to us like a ghost?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One laughed heartily, waving his sleeve nonchalantly and said, "You few ghosts aren't worth my effort to cling to; it's just your bad luck. Even passing by for a rest leads to an encounter like this—clearly destined for misfortune."
"Bah!"
All three of them cursed simultaneously. But after a moment of eye contact, as if they shared a telepathic connection, they suddenly flipped over and bolted in three different directions with all their might, desperately fleeing for their lives.
