The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
The next events were quite simple. Ten Thousand Swords in One and Tian Buyi did not waste any time and directly began to interrogate the seven members of the Demon Cult.
At first, each of these seven individuals was very stubborn, and after half an hour of questioning, they still did not yield any information. Therefore, Ten Thousand Swords in One instructed Tian Buyi to separate these individuals and question them individually. Additionally, since Ten Thousand Swords in One and Tian Buyi were not exactly benevolent figures, they employed various methods during the process. In the end, they managed to extract some information.
The Demon Cult is a sect with a very ancient history, even older than the Azure Cloud Sect, which has the longest history in Middle-earth. Throughout this long history, countless secrets have been hidden in the most important and sacred place of Wilderness, known as Sanctuary, and Mingyuan is one of the most significant secrets.
Mingyuan sounds like a geographical location, resembling a deep, dark abyss, but it is more akin to a passageway to a mysterious world. The specific scene is what Ten Thousand Swords in One and others saw from below the mountain—a strange illusion.
According to the teachings of the Demon Cult, there lies immense power and countless miraculous opportunities beyond Mingyuan. As long as one can enter Mingyuan, there is a chance to obtain those things and ascend to greatness.
However, Mingyuan has always been shrouded in mystery. For most of its long existence, it has been invisible, and members of the Demon Cult have never known how to open it. Often, it is only under certain fortuitous circumstances that a member of the Demon Cult inadvertently does something that suddenly opens Mingyuan, allowing them to gain opportunities and significantly enhance their abilities.
A recent example is the previous leader of the Demon Cult, Qiu Wangyu. Back then, he was just an unnamed disciple under Changsheng Hall, but due to his fortune, he opened Mingyuan and entered it. Subsequently, he unified the Demon Cult and became a formidable figure. If it weren't for his defeat at Azure Cloud Mountain against the Zhu Xian Ancient Sword, his future achievements would likely have been even more extraordinary.
Strangely enough, throughout history, powerful figures from the Demon Cult who entered Mingyuan have never mentioned how they opened it or what they saw inside. As a result, even members of the Demon Cult are almost entirely ignorant about it, further cloaking Mingyuan in mystery.
Moreover, every time Mingyuan is opened, it does not close immediately. It appears through ancient rituals performed at the previous Shura Tower of the Demon Cult Holy Temple. However, what people see are merely illusions that appear during daylight; real individuals cannot enter. These illusions last for varying periods—sometimes just one or two years, other times even decades—but ultimately remain mere phantoms; people cannot enter them and thus have no opportunities.
The information regarding Mingyuan was pieced together from what these seven individuals revealed. Although their accounts were fragmented and varied in detail, after organizing it all, a clearer picture emerged. A significant portion of this information actually came from a large man with the surname Meng.
Perhaps due to his severe injuries or his despair from being hunted by fellow cult members, this man quickly gave in after a brief symbolic resistance. This left Tian Buyi, who had been prepared for a long night of interrogation with him, feeling an immediate sense of emptiness.
Setting aside these individuals, Ten Thousand Swords in One and Tian Buyi stepped aside and began to discuss quietly.
Tian Buyi whispered to Ten Thousand Swords in One, "Wan Shixiong, do you think what these people say is credible?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One pondered for a moment, then slowly nodded and said, "They fought so fiercely for their lives before; they wouldn't suddenly form an alliance to deceive us, especially that person with the surname Meng." At this point, he paused slightly, a hint of seriousness crossing his brow as he continued, "I didn't expect there to be such strange things within the Demon Cult. Fortunately, they are not common; otherwise..."
Ten Thousand Swords in One and Tian Buyi exchanged glances, both recognizing the deep concern in each other's eyes. The Mingyuan was so mysterious and bizarre that if someone were to accidentally enter it, they could emerge as a formidable hero. Then, if they united the Demon Cult and set their sights on Middle-earth, it would lead to another catastrophe. No wonder throughout the past few thousand years, the Demon Cult has experienced several rises and falls but always produced unparalleled heroes who brought devastation.
Tian Buyi let out a long breath and said, "At least it's fortunate that the recent entrant into Mingyuan, Demon Cult Leader Qiu Wangyu, is already dead. I believe we can at least have a hundred years of peace."
However, Ten Thousand Swords in One's expression remained stern; he did not show any signs of relief. Tian Buyi quickly noticed this and was somewhat surprised. He whispered, "Wan Shixiong, do you think something is wrong?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One turned around with his hands clasped behind his back. In the night, he saw the peak where the Demon Cult Holy Temple was located towering high above, seemingly merging with the dark night. The vast night sky was boundless, like an ocean of darkness.
"Do you remember what that person with the surname Meng angrily said about Wandu Sect's leader Poison God?"
Tian Buyi focused for a moment and then his expression slightly changed. "Shixiong, do you mean that old poisoner really might..."
But he quickly shook his head and frowned. "But that's not right; what these people said clearly indicates that only the one who initially gains the opportunity can enter Mingyuan. After that, no matter how long Mingyuan lasts, it is merely an illusion; others cannot enter."
Ten Thousand Swords in One nodded and said, "Logically speaking, they shouldn't be lying. It's just that I still feel somewhat uneasy about it. Considering the time frame, this occurrence of Mingyuan has lasted at least over twenty years. In past instances, it has lasted quite long. And Wandu Sect's Poison God has always been cunning; I'm afraid if something unexpected happens and he really finds a way to enter Mingyuan, then we common folk of Middle-earth might have to face another calamity!"
Tian Buyi's heart skipped a beat as he looked at Ten Thousand Swords in One. After a while, he asked, "Wan Shixiong, what do you plan to do?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One turned to gaze at him. Under the bright moonlight, Tian Buyi felt that this Wan Shixiong stood tall and graceful; his white robe shone like snow, making him appear like a dazzling sword radiating brilliant cold light. His gaze was so clear and sharp that it was almost impossible to look directly at him; it felt as though he could see deep into one's heart.
"Tian Shidi." The voice of Ten Thousand Swords in One was calm, yet it carried a momentum that seemed to rumble like distant thunder, swirling around Tian Buyi. For some reason, Tian Buyi felt the hair on his body stand on end, experiencing a thrilling sense of excitement.
"Tian Shidi," Ten Thousand Swords in One called him again, then looked at this short and stout junior brother and said in a deep voice, "The current illusion of Mingyuan relies on the Shura Tower from the Sanctuary. For the Lower Mortal Beings, for my Azure Cloud Sect, I intend to ascend the mountain and destroy that Demon Tower to completely eliminate future troubles. However, this journey will undoubtedly be extremely dangerous. Will you... assist me?"
Tian Buyi clenched his fists tightly and took a deep breath. At that moment, he felt a surge of blood rushing through him, as if a voice was roaring in his heart. Yet in the end, he still held it back.
Then he smiled and nodded, saying word by word, "Wan Shixiong, count me in!"
