Azure Cloud Mountain, Tongfeng.
The Righteous and Demonic War had just recently concluded. Although the Azure Cloud Sect ultimately defeated the Demon Cult in that brutal battle, achieving a resounding victory, it came at a significant cost. The saying goes that while they killed three thousand enemies, they also suffered eight hundred losses themselves. The Azure Cloud Sect incurred considerable damage as well. The Spirit Mountain Immortal Realm was marked by visible scars of destruction, and the celestial lands were in disarray. However, these damages were repairable; despite the severity, they were still manageable. What was truly lamentable was the number of disciples who perished in this great war, particularly the young talents whom the Sect had high hopes for and whose early demise was indeed a source of great sorrow.
After the war, it was time for healing and recuperation. Currently, within the Azure Cloud Sect, due to Zhangmen Zhenren Chengzi being injured in his battle against Demon Cult Leader Qiu Wangyu, he had been in seclusion for recovery and had not seen outsiders for some time. Many affairs within the Azure Cloud Sect were handled by his senior disciple Dao Xuan.
Initially, this decision sparked some debate within the Azure Cloud Sect. Although Dao Xuan was exceptionally talented and held a prominent reputation, he was still merely a disciple of the younger generation. Above him were many esteemed seniors of the same generation as Chengzi, such as Zhu Feng's Headmaster Master Zhenwu, Grandmaster Zheng of Dazhu Peak Zheng Tong, and Fenghui Peak Master Zeng Wujie, all respected elders of the Sect. It seemed more reasonable for one of these elders to take on the role of acting leader if Chengzi Zhenren could not attend to matters.
However, during the actual process, several highly regarded elders surprisingly showed unanimous support for Dao Xuan acting as leader without any opposition. Among them, Zeng Wujie remained silent, while both Zhen Wu and Zheng Tong openly expressed their support for Dao Xuan. Consequently, any dissenting voices were quickly silenced. Nevertheless, among many disciples of the Azure Cloud Sect, there remained some private confusion and doubt.
All these suspicions and discussions quickly dissipated in the following days as Dao Xuan, in his role as acting leader, rapidly demonstrated astonishing capabilities. He managed to organize and restore order to the chaotic aftermath of the war-torn Azure Cloud Sect: from repairing battlefields across various peaks to treating numerous injured members, arranging for elixirs, handling countless tedious tasks, and even dealing with remains left scattered across peaks and in valleys—everything was meticulously arranged.
In fact, after this incredibly brutal Righteous and Demonic War, the entire Azure Cloud Sect gradually revealed a new vitality. The previously heavy atmosphere began to lift, smiles returned to many disciples' faces, even more than before the war.
This change did not go unnoticed; discussions and doubts faded away rapidly as admiration and praise for Dao Xuan arose from all sides. This young prodigy’s reputation within the sect rose to new heights.
At the same time, not long ago, Dao Xuan made another astonishing move: after informing leader Chengzi Zhenren, he took it upon himself to organize the new session of the Seven Veins Martial Arts Conference for the Azure Cloud Sect.
The Seven Veins Martial Arts Conference, held once every ten years, was one of the most lively and grand events in many years within the sect. It had always been a shortcut for young disciples to make a name for themselves. Originally, due to heavy losses from the Righteous and Demonic War, most people had little hope for this session of the conference. However, against expectations, Dao Xuan bravely stepped forward and announced that he would host this event again, immediately attracting attention from everyone in the sect. Countless young talents eagerly prepared for it, sweeping away any lingering sorrow.
Everyone began to look forward.
The scale of the Seven Veins Martial Arts Conference was vast; it involved all disciples from seven branches of the Azure Cloud Sect. Many significant matters required communication and coordination. During this period, Dao Xuan was extremely busy. Fortunately, he was not foolish; besides seeking advice from several senior uncles, he also enlisted many capable fellow disciples to assist him. Thus, things progressed very smoothly. If this continued for a while longer, preparations for the conference would be ready soon.
However, while overseeing everything, Dao Xuan had yet to set a specific date for holding the next session of the Seven Factions Martial Arts Tournament. Externally, he only stated that organizing matters was complex and would require more time; those in-the-know understood that he was actually waiting for individuals like Ten Thousand Swords in One to return from outside.
During this time, with permission from Zhu Feng's Headmaster Master Zhenwu, sisters Shuiyue and Su Ru frequently came to help at Tongfeng, invited by Dao Xuan.
Shuiyue, exceptionally talented yet fair-minded despite her cool demeanor; while her sister-in-arms,Su Ru, had a lively personality that allowed her to easily connect with others. Additionally, both hailed from the beautiful lineage of Zhu Feng, possessing stunning beauty that captivated many. They not only assisted Dao Xuan significantly but also attracted considerable attention within the sect; suddenly gaining numerous admirers made their reputation as "the Twin Fairies of Zhu Feng" widely known.
On this day at Azure Cloud Mountain, outside Yuqing Palace, Dao Xuan walked up the stone steps from the mountain below, accompanied by a person who was previously bedridden due to severe injuries—Yun.
At this moment, Yun still looked pale and haggard, indicating he had not fully recovered. However, being able to walk and come here suggested he had endured the most difficult time.
Dao Xuan then said to Yun, "Yun Shidi, your injuries have only just improved a bit. You should be resting quietly; why are you in such a hurry to come here? If you were to suffer a setback, wouldn't that be tormenting yourself?"
Yun smiled weakly and replied, "Senior Brother, I appreciate your kindness. It's just that during these days, watching my fellow brothers busy with their tasks while I lay in bed like a useless person has been truly dull. If you don't mind and think I can still be of some help, let me assist you."
Dao Xuan glanced at him and nodded, saying, "Yun Shidi has good intentions. Right now, our Azure Cloud Sect is in a time of great need; there are indeed many complicated matters. If you are willing to come out and help me, I would be very pleased."
As he spoke halfway, a sudden thunderous roar erupted from the Azure Water Cold Pool beneath Yuqing Palace, shaking the mountains and echoing far away with an imposing presence that was frightening.
Both turned to look, and Yun exclaimed in surprise, "Is that the Nine Nether Demon Barrier?"
Dao Xuan stared down below and frowned. "It should be the Nine Nether Demon Barrier. However, I wonder why it seems restless today?"
Yun asked, "Do you want me to go down and take a look?"
Dao Xuan pondered for a moment and waited again. But soon after, the area below fell silent once more; it seemed that the Azure Water Qilin had merely roared out of boredom before diving back into the water to sleep. After waiting a while longer, Dao Xuan finally shook his head and said, "Forget it; it seems there is no major issue. You should come in with me."
The two entered Yuqing Hall together, where several groups of people were already waiting for Dao Xuan to return and handle various matters.
Yun stood aside as Dao Xuan took his seat at the main position and swiftly dealt with several tasks. To Yun's eyes, some of these matters appeared quite complex; however, Dao Xuan resolved them with remarkable speed as if cutting through chaos with ease. Yun couldn't help but feel admiration and was about to compliment his senior brother when he heard footsteps approaching—coming toward them was a young and beautiful woman: Shuiyue.
At that moment, Dao Xuan had just finished handling the last batch of affairs on his desk. He exchanged a few words with that person before sending them away. Then he turned to Shuiyue and nodded at her as a greeting.
Meanwhile, Yun's eyes brightened as he stood up and bowed to Shuiyue. "It's been a long time since we last met, Shuiyue Senior Sister."
Shuiyue also saw this, and a hint of surprise flashed across her face. However, she was usually calm and quickly returned to normal. She nodded at Yun and then called out to Dao Xuan, handing over a piece of white paper with a few lines of writing on it. She said, "Dao Xuan Shixiong, I have informed the other sects to submit their lists of disciples participating in the Seven Factions Martial Arts Tournament as soon as possible. However, they have not made a final decision yet and will need to wait a few more days. This paper contains the list from our Zhu Feng sect; please take a look."
Dao Xuan was taken aback for a moment but then smiled slightly as he took the white paper. He nodded and said, "Zhu Feng always handles things quickly; thank you for your hard work, Shuiyue Shimei."
Shuiyue smiled faintly, said nothing, and stepped aside, while Yun's gaze involuntarily followed her. Shuiyue seemed to sense something and glanced over at Yun. Startled, Yun hurriedly looked away. Shuiyue frowned slightly at him but did not express anything further; only a trace of disdain flickered in her eyes.
Dao Xuan read through the Zhu Feng list and then nodded, saying, "This is fine; I will keep this list for now and register according to it later."
Shuiyue nodded and then spoke up, "By the way, Dao Xuan Shixiong, I am looking for Su Ru Shimei regarding something important; could you please call her out?"
Dao Xuan was momentarily stunned and then replied in surprise, "Su Shimei? I haven't seen her today."
Shuiyue raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised as well. She said, "Su Shimei came to Tongfeng this morning; she had something urgent to report to you. However, I haven't seen her return yet and thought she was still with you."
Dao Xuan thought for a moment and said, "Earlier, I went to the Eight Desolations and Six Harmonies and Emerald Terrace to repair some damaged areas. It took longer than expected; perhaps I missed her. Maybe she couldn't find me and has already gone back; you might have missed each other."
Shuiyue responded with an "oh," nodding as she said, "I see. If that's the case, Shixiong, I'll take my leave now."
Dao Xuan replied, "Alright, you may go."
