The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
Behind the Demon Cult Holy Temple, a vast area composed of five main halls and numerous other buildings is now engulfed in flames. The air is filled with the crackling of fire, and in addition to the flames, sword lights seem to lurk maliciously in hidden corners, occasionally darting out to launch surprise attacks. Each strike is brutal, accompanied by screams and splashes of blood, causing further panic among the members of the Demon Cult.
However, despite this chaos, not all members of the Demon Cult are fools. After an initial period of confusion, many began to shout commands and restore order.
The Azure Cloud Sect consists of only three people. Even though they gained the upper hand initially, it did create a certain level of chaos. However, as time passed, most members of the Demon Cult began to realize that there was not a large group of righteous practitioners invading as they had imagined.
This realization brought a sigh of relief to many within the Demon Cult. After all, the defeat at Azure Cloud Mountain was still fresh in their minds. If a righteous army were to descend upon them like divine soldiers, it would surely shatter many unprepared members of the Demon Cult. But since there was no righteous army present and it seemed to be merely a harassment from a hidden enemy, although they were still unaware of the enemy's strength or numbers, the fact that their opponents were hiding suggested that their power was likely limited.
As this thought crossed many minds, their courage surged. They began shouting and cursing loudly; although the scene remained chaotic, their morale had significantly improved.
Among the five main halls, Mother Mary Sermon Hall and Reincarnation Hall were the most important and gathered the most people. They hurriedly worked to extinguish fires and rescue what they could. Despite the large number of members in the Demon Cult, they were still overwhelmed by multiple fires breaking out simultaneously. Meanwhile, those few cunning enemies continued to harass them with stealthy attacks, creating an atmosphere filled with screams. Just when reinforcements were about to confront them, the attackers would vanish again, which was truly infuriating.
In Barbaric Sacred Hall, shouts echoed throughout. However, as more members of the Demon Cult gathered and the situation rapidly changed, several sharp-eyed experts stepped up to take charge. The chaotic scene began to show signs of stabilization.
The flames on Sermon Hall were extinguished first. A group of anxious Demon Cult experts rushed into the hall to check various texts and artifacts for damage while others stood guard outside, ready for any further attacks. In a short time, there were almost no opportunities left for surprise assaults here.
As a result, members of the Demon Cult outside the various halls suddenly seemed enlightened and began to implement similar strategies. Within a short tea break, several burning and chaotic halls had their fires extinguished one by one, stabilizing the atmosphere.
At that moment, a sudden shrill scream pierced through from a corner outside Ming Wang Hell Hall. It was clear that another member had been ambushed by an enemy. However, this time was different; perhaps due to the dire situation or seeing more members of the Demon Cult gathering nearby, the attacker hesitated before striking. This hesitation allowed the targeted member to grab hold of them in retaliation, revealing their identity as Shang Zhengliang.
In an instant, countless members of the Demon Cult turned their attention toward him and roared in anger as numerous figures rushed toward that direction.
Shang Zhengliang was taken aback, struggling to break free from the Demonic Cult Monster that he had already stabbed half to death but was still tightly gripping his arm. Just as he was about to dodge, it was too late; the nearest cultist had already arrived. With a roar, a vicious black knife came crashing down, accompanied by a foul stench that seemed to carry poison. Shang Zhengliang dared not evade; otherwise, he feared the consequences of being struck in the back would be unimaginable. He had no choice but to turn and block the blow.
However, this delay allowed several more Demonic Cult Monsters to rush in, each wielding weapons and attacking fiercely, their eyes bloodshot with rage, seemingly intent on tearing this Middle-earth Righteous Path thief into pieces.
Shang Zhengliang fought desperately while retreating. Yet, the enraged cultists surged forward like a tidal wave, seemingly about to crush him in an instant.
At this critical moment, a sword light suddenly erupted from the side of the cultists, sweeping in with great force. There were several screams, blood splattered everywhere, and a few cultists staggered back.
Everyone was startled, and chaos erupted within their ranks. However, the cultists quickly realized that only one person had charged out from that direction—it was Zeng Shuchang. He pushed back the Demonic Cult Monsters in front of him with several sword strikes and rushed to Shang Zhengliang's side. In just that brief moment, Shang Zhengliang, who had been directly facing countless attacks, was already injured and staggering back. If Zeng Shuchang had been even a moment slower in coming out, Shang Zhengliang would have surely been torn apart by those Demonic Cult Monsters.
The two exchanged glances, both aware that they were at the most urgent and dangerous juncture. Without daring to hesitate for even a moment, they prepared to flee into the distance. Suddenly, there was a loud crash; a powerful figure from the cult hurled a magical artifact toward them. It expanded in mid-air and instantly transformed into a massive stone, crashing down upon them.
Seeing the fierce approach of this artifact, Zeng Shuchang and Shang Zhengliang did not dare to take it head-on and could only leap aside. However, this slight delay allowed a large group of cultists to surround them again and launch a massive attack.
Back-to-back, Zeng Shuchang and Shang Zhengliang fought desperately to defend themselves, struggling against overwhelming odds. In an instant, their protective sword aura was pushed back, and soon they bore several wounds on their bodies as countless blades whizzed toward them. It seemed that before long, they would meet their demise at the hands of these vicious foes.
Just then, someone suddenly shouted from behind the crowd with a voice filled with fear and panic. The cultists were startled and turned around to see what was happening.
In the distance, at the already extinguished Mother Mary Sermon Hall, flames suddenly reignited fiercely.
What was going on?
For a moment, the cultists were dumbfounded. Before they could react, one of the guards stationed there let out a terrible scream and crashed to the ground—he had been thrown out of the hall by someone.
The members of the Demonic Cult suddenly came to their senses, and in an instant, everyone was shouting in anger. It turned out that an enemy had once again infiltrated the Sermon Hall, and they could not believe there were such despicable and cunning individuals. The safety of the Sermon Hall was of utmost importance, far more than the two righteous individuals before them. Thus, more than half of the Demonic Cult members immediately turned around and rushed toward the Sermon Hall.
The pressure on Zeng Shuchang and Shang Zhengliang was instantly reduced by more than half. After several struggles, they managed to push back a few Demonic Cult Monsters in front of them and desperately began to retreat. At the same time, Shang Zhengliang shouted at Zeng Shuchang, "Who is over there?"
Zeng Shuchang gritted his teeth and replied, "There's no one else but the fat guy!"
Shang Zhengliang stumbled for a moment, glaring at Zeng Shuchang as he shouted, "We need to go back and save him!"
Zeng Shuchang did not look back and continued to dart forward, saying, "Let’s go; the fat guy has his own ways!"
Shang Zhengliang clenched his jaw and finally fled once again.
