The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
In the distance outside the door, a sudden burst of laughter and playful shouts broke the silence. Tian Buyi snapped back to reality, poked his head out, and saw several of his fellow disciples gathered around, watching the commotion with their necks stretched long. Some of them were even teasing him.
“Tian Shidi, I didn’t expect you to be so quiet and yet have found such a beautiful Zhu Feng junior sister!”
“How infuriating! I’ve liked Zhu Feng for many years, but why don’t those pretty Zhu Feng senior and junior sisters ever look at me?”
“Because you’re too ugly!”
“Nonsense! Our Azure Cloud Sect is a cultivation sect; isn’t the standard for choosing a partner based on talent and strength?”
“Are you stupid? Those were just lies told by the elders back then to lure exceptional talents into our sect. No matter when, women always choose the charming and handsome ones first. Did you really take those words seriously?”
“Ah... so you all have been deceiving me, Master!”
...
Someone cried out in despair, looking as if they were about to collapse. Tian Buyi spat in their direction and angrily waved his hand, saying, “Go away! Don’t make a fuss here.” He turned back, his face suddenly brightening with a warm smile as he invited Su Ru in. He then swiftly closed his door, shutting out those lewd fellow disciples.
Su Ru walked a few steps into Tian Buyi’s courtyard, looked around, and said, “Do you live alone in this big courtyard?”
Tian Buyi approached her and replied, “Yes, as you know, our Dazhu Peak has always had few people, so with a large area, it’s naturally spacious.”
Su Ru shot him a sideways glance, unsure whether she was annoyed or angry. After waiting for a moment, she noticed that this fat guy was just standing there beside her, staring blankly without any reaction. She couldn’t help but feel a bit irritated and glared at him, saying, “What are you daydreaming about? Do you want me to stand here forever?”
Tian Buyi was startled and quickly came to his senses. He hurriedly took a few steps forward to open his door wider and smiled, “Please come in.”
Su Ru pursed her lips and was about to walk over when she suddenly saw Tian Buyi’s expression change dramatically. He shouted and turned around to rush into the room first, followed by a flurry of sounds.
Su Ru was taken aback and walked to the door to look inside. She saw Tian Buyi, now red-faced and flailing his arms and legs as he desperately tried to tidy up the previously messy room. For instance, there were blankets scattered everywhere that hadn’t been folded; half-drunk teacups that hadn’t been emptied or washed; clothes thrown about haphazardly; and... pants—well, things like that!
Su Ru watched from the doorway with a mix of amusement and annoyance. However, seeing Tian Buyi’s nervous demeanor inexplicably made her heart flutter sweetly. She eventually walked in, looked around, then scoffed disdainfully and said, “It’s so messy here; it’s practically like a dog’s den.”
Tian Buyi blushed, one hand clutching his clothes and the other holding a teacup, standing awkwardly in place with a smile, feeling somewhat at a loss.
Su Ru glanced at him, and for some reason, a hint of tenderness flickered in her eyes. After sighing, she waved her hand and said, "Go on, let me handle it."
With that, she directly pushed Tian Buyi aside, rolled up her sleeves, and began tidying up the room for him.
Once she started, the situation changed dramatically. The originally messy room quickly transformed into an orderly space at a visible speed.
Before long, the bedding on the bed was neatly folded, the teacups and teapot were cleaned spotless, and each piece of clothing was neatly stacked to the side. Everything in the room—on the table, in the cabinet—suddenly seemed to be imbued with a magical aura, radiating an unusual glow and becoming remarkably tidy.
Tian Buyi even felt as if his room had suddenly brightened.
He looked around in astonishment while Su Ru, after putting away the last item, dusted off her hands and turned around with a hint of pride, smiling at Tian Buyi: "So, how is it? Not bad, right?"
Tian Buyi sincerely replied, "Sister Su, you are amazing!"
Su Ru chuckled and said, "Isn't this just basic? I clean up my own place; someone like you is just a novice." Suddenly remembering something, her cheeks flushed inexplicably. She quickly changed the subject: "By the way, I came to check on you. I heard from Mán Huāng that you got hurt badly when you returned. How are you now?"
Tian Buyi patted his chest and said, "I'm almost better; don't worry."
Su Ru sighed and said, "I heard about your experiences in the Wilderness from my senior sister. I never expected it to be so dangerous. When I heard it back then, I was filled with dread. I kept thinking that if... if something really happened to you or Wan Shixiong, I would..."
She shook her head gently at the end of her sentence; fear still lingered on her face. Clearly worried and scared, Tian Buyi suddenly felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He realized that this journey through the Wilderness had been fraught with hardships and dangers but now seemed truly worthwhile.
So she does care about me!
Tian Buyi smiled.
Su Ru looked at him curiously and said, "People are worried about you; why are you smiling like an idiot?"
Without hesitation or overthinking it, Tian Buyi replied, "Hearing that you're worried about me makes me incredibly happy."
"Ugh!" Su Ru blushed again and scolded him playfully: "You silly fatso! When did you learn to be so smooth-tongued?"
Tian Buyi shook his head and said, "I am speaking from the heart." After a pause, he continued, "Sister Su, during the time in the Wilderness, there were a few times when I almost... didn't come back. At that moment, I thought about whether you would feel a little sad if you heard the news in the future. If that's the case, I think even if I die..."
"Hey! Stop it." Su Ru abruptly interrupted him, annoyed. "What’s with all this talk of life and death? Aren't we all fine now?"
Tian Buyi scratched his head and smiled in agreement.
Su Ru looked at his silly expression, her heart softened, and her gaze became gentler. She glared at him and said, "Alright, let's not dwell on the past, but don't act like a fool and do these things again in the future."
Tian Buyi defended himself, "No, this time it was Wan Shixiong who led the team for the sake of Lower Mortal Beings and Middle-earth Righteous Path..."
"Can you compare yourself to Wan Shixiong?" Su Ru cut him off impatiently. "Wan Shixiong is a hero of unparalleled talent; we are mere mortals and cannot compare to him at all. From now on, just stay at Azure Cloud Sect and live your ordinary life to avoid worrying others, understood?"
Tian Buyi responded with an "oh" and nodded in agreement. After a moment, he suddenly asked, "Sister Su, do you really worry about me?"
Su Ru's face flushed with anger; however, her anger also carried a hint of shyness and tenderness. She stomped her foot and turned to leave the room. Tian Buyi was startled and hurriedly chased after her.
Before long, laughter could be heard outside the door, followed by someone calling out, "Tian Shidi, where are you going?"
Tian Buyi's voice came back, saying, "Don't make a fuss; I'm just seeing Sister Su off."
"Hey, if you're sending her off, why are you pulling out the Crimson Flame Sword? Are you planning to go with her?"
"Shut up! I can't just send Sister Su back to Zhu Feng..."
"Hahahaha..."

On the back mountain of Tongfeng, Qiu Wangyu.
Outside the solemn and dignified hall, Dao Xuan and Ten Thousand Swords in One stood side by side and bowed towards the somewhat dim hall. Then Ten Thousand Swords in One called out loudly, "Master, I am Jian Yi; I have returned from the Wilderness."
In the dimly lit hall of Qiu Wangyu, the darkness flickered along with the candlelight. After a while, a deep voice suddenly emerged slowly, saying, "Is it Jian Yi?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One smiled and stepped forward, saying, "It is indeed me, Master. How have you been? I heard from Senior Brother that you have been in seclusion for quite some time. Although this place is peaceful, it seems a bit too remote. Why not come back with us to Yuqing Palace, so that we can pay our respects together? Would that be alright?"
Qiu Wangyu was silent for a moment, then his voice rang out again, saying, "No need. I am fine here."
Ten Thousand Swords in One was taken aback, seemingly surprised. He wanted to say more, but suddenly felt something and looked down to see Dao Xuan gently tugging at his sleeve, then slightly shaking his head.
After pondering for a moment, Ten Thousand Swords in One stopped trying to persuade him further and said, "In that case, I will follow Master's wishes. I will definitely come to serve you often in the future."
Chengzi said, "That is unnecessary. What I need during my seclusion is tranquility; you don't need to come unless there is something important." After a pause, he continued, "By the way, regarding your trip to Wilderness Demon Cult Sanctuary, did you gain anything?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One laughed heartily and recounted everything he had seen and experienced on the journey—the life-and-death situations and various dangers—especially detailing the battle at the Barbaric Sacred Hall where they destroyed the Shura Tower. His narration was so vivid that even Dao Xuan, who was beside him, had a glimmer of excitement in his eyes.
When Ten Thousand Swords in One finished speaking, Chengzi sighed in the hall of Qiu Wangyu, saying, "I didn't expect you to lose an arm over this."
Ten Thousand Swords in One laughed heartily and replied, "Master need not worry; it's just an arm. Given time, with diligent practice, I am confident that my progress on the path will not be hindered."
Chengzi fell silent for a moment before saying, "If that's the case, then that's for the best. It's getting late; you two should head back now. I also need to rest."
Ten Thousand Swords in One was momentarily stunned and looked up at the sky; it was bright and sunny, but it was only noon.
However, since Master had spoken, he naturally could not go against it. The two bowed to Qiu Wangyu to bid farewell and then walked out.
On the mountain path, Ten Thousand Swords in One asked Dao Xuan, "Senior Brother, how long has Master been like this?"
Dao Xuan thought for a moment and replied, "After the Righteous and Demonic War, Master only rested for a few days before moving here. It has been like this ever since."
Ten Thousand Swords in One sighed with regret and said, "What a pity! With Master in seclusion, I haven't even seen him once."
Dao Xuan frowned as if he wanted to say something but then smiled bitterly and fell silent.
The two walked all the way to Yuqing Palace. Just as Ten Thousand Swords in One was about to bid farewell to Dao Xuan, he was suddenly called by him. Ten Thousand Swords in One asked Dao Xuan, "Senior Brother, is there something on your mind?"
A hint of hesitation crossed Dao Xuan's face. After pondering for a moment, he quietly said to him, "Junior Brother, there is something I want to discuss with you."
Ten Thousand Swords in One smiled and said, "Senior Brother, please don't mind."
Dao Xuan was about to speak when suddenly he heard footsteps outside Yuqing Palace. Two groups of people entered to report matters to Dao Xuan.
The matters were not significant. One was a dispute over the allocation of a certain spiritual pill between Feng Huai Peak and Chaoyang Peak. The other was even less relevant to the Azure Cloud Sect, concerning a village called Caomiao Village at the foot of the mountain, where villagers reported strange noises coming from Grass Temple Village.
Dao Xuan thought for a moment and then directly stated the allocation numbers for the spiritual pills from last year between Feng Huai Peak and Chaoyang Peak. He then ruled in favor of Feng Huai Peak, which had received less last year. The person accepted the order and left.
Ten Thousand Swords in One watched with some admiration and said with a smile, "Senior Brother is truly talented; you even remember such matters. I could never do that."
Dao Xuan smiled slightly and replied, "It's just trivial matters, not worth mentioning."
"What matters are they?"
Just as Ten Thousand Swords in One was about to speak, a voice suddenly came from the entrance. It was Shuiyue, accompanied by the equally charming Su Ru, who walked in.
Dao Xuan smiled and nodded at Shuiyue, acknowledging her presence. He noticed that Shuiyue's gaze seemed to be fixed on Ten Thousand Swords in One. However, when he turned back to look at Ten Thousand Swords in One, he was suddenly struck by the thought that his exceptionally talented and handsome junior brother was now focused on Su Ru, his eyes particularly bright.
