During the afternoon training session, I noticed that Ouyang was not in good condition. He kept sneezing, probably because he caught a cold after getting caught in the rain that morning. "Ouyang, are you sick?" I asked as I walked over. Ouyang nodded, "I think so. I feel weak all over and my body aches." "Then you should quickly go see the School Doctor. I'll ask Teacher Qiu for leave for you." I headed towards the seats next to the court where Teacher Qiu was sitting. Ouyang grabbed me from behind, "No need. I have experience dealing with colds. I'll just exercise a bit and sweat it out." He then ran off to grab a basketball and started practicing. Before long, Teacher Qiu called us all together again: "Team members, I just received news that this morning Hejiang Middle School faced Experiment Three in the semifinals. In the end, Hejiang Middle School made a comeback in the final quarter after trailing by eleven points at home, winning 77-76 against Experiment Three. Jiang Lingfeng scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, with an impressive overall record of 15 out of 19 shots, along with 8 assists and 3 steals. So whether we face the defending champion Experiment Three or Jiang Lingfeng's Hejiang team, it will be a tough challenge." Teacher Qiu smiled and added, "Of course, this is assuming we can leave Twenty-Four Middle School's home court unscathed." We all laughed awkwardly, but when I turned around, I saw that Ouyang's face was pale and his eyes were starting to look unfocused... 0

"Ouyang, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Teacher Qiu also noticed Ouyang's unusual state and asked him. "Coach, Ouyang caught a cold from getting rained on today," I stood up to explain to Teacher Qiu. "Then why don't you go get an IV? Hurry to the infirmary," Teacher Qiu said with concern to Ouyang. It seemed that Ouyang really wasn't feeling well; he couldn't hold on any longer and nodded slightly while trembling as he walked toward the gym entrance. "Coach, I'll accompany Ouyang!" I requested from Teacher Qiu upon seeing Ouyang like this. After thinking for a moment, Teacher Qiu agreed: "Alright, just help him along the way." I rushed forward to support him and whispered in his ear, "Come on, Brother Ouyang, I'll escort you so you don't faint halfway." Ouyang smiled but didn't say anything. 0

The school's infirmary was on the second floor of the southernmost teaching building, so we had to walk quite a distance. The rain was still falling outside as I held up a pink umbrella while helping Ouyang walk out. "Ugh! This rain has been pouring for ages; who knows when it will stop? Hopefully tomorrow's trip to the north of the city will be sunny," I said. "This umbrella belongs to Xia Ying, right?" Ouyang suddenly asked me. I was taken aback for a moment before replying, "Yes, that's right. Don't get me wrong; I borrowed it from Xia Ying; she didn't give it to me." I quickly explained. Ouyang looked thoughtful without showing much expression. After we arrived at the infirmary, the School Doctor confirmed that Ouyang had a slight fever and needed an IV drip. After settling him in, I returned to the gym only to find A Fei and others coming out. "Jie, you're back just in time! We're done with school," A Fei said as he threw an arm around my shoulder and started walking out with me. "Oh no! We have Xia Ying's and Sha Xiaomei's umbrellas; they're going to get soaked!" A Fei suddenly remembered something. "Right!" We both sprinted off. 0

When we reached downstairs of the teaching building, Sha Xiaomei was taking shelter from the rain. A Fei and I ran over to her. "Sha Xiaomei, have you seen Xia Ying?" I asked anxiously. "Yeah, I saw her just now; we were chatting earlier; she just left through the school gate," Sha Xiaomei replied. I dashed towards the school gate and looked to my right after stepping outside; there was Xia Ying along with the Three Sisters walking home under an umbrella together—Xia Ying and Gu Mei Jiao were sharing one umbrella. "Xia Ying!" I called out as I ran over to them. The three of them turned around simultaneously. "Here’s your umbrella," I said as I handed it over to her. As Xia Ying opened the umbrella and handed it back to me anxiously, she said, "Hey! Just hold onto it! Look at you; you're drenched like a drowned rat! You have an umbrella but don’t know how to use it? You're such a fool! The Three Sisters have two umbrellas; that's enough for us! You keep this one for now..." I quietly listened as I stared into her eyes blankly: "Xia Ying, you're really nice..." The words slipped out before I could stop myself, causing Zhang Yirong and Gu Mei Jiao to burst into laughter while Xia Ying looked awkwardly flustered: "You idiot Xiang Jie! Why would you say something like that in front of so many people?" It took me a moment to realize what I'd done; feeling embarrassed, I quickly took back the umbrella and walked away with my face flushed. 0

When A Fei saw me return still holding an umbrella, he curiously asked what happened. "Nothing!" I replied while keeping my head down as we walked on. A Fei and Sha Xiaomei shared one umbrella behind us as they walked together. The more I thought about it, the more embarrassed I felt; so I hurried towards the bus stop sign. Once home, my mom was cooking dinner as I dashed into my room and shut the door behind me. After placing the umbrella beside my bed, I changed out of my wet clothes into something dry before lying down on my bed groaning: "Ugh... I'm so embarrassed." Suddenly my phone buzzed with a text message; opening it revealed it was from Xia Ying saying: "Great romantic hero! Keep my umbrella safe; don’t break it." Hmph! This stingy girl is really something else! But never mind that; tomorrow we're heading into battle at Olympic Sports Center! I've realized how lucky I am because during my first year of high school I'll have a chance to play in one of the city's top competitions on such a prestigious court! Tomorrow Twenty-Four Middle School will definitely make a comeback at home; we must go to Olympic Sports Center—absolutely! For Zhang Ruizhi, for Ji Fang, and also... Cookie. 0

The next morning when the rain stopped, A Fei and I rode our bikes to school for our gathering. I still had Xia Ying's umbrella with me; once we arrived at school, I dropped off my backpack in class and returned the umbrella to Xia Ying: "Thanks! It's all good; nothing's broken." After taking back her umbrella with a smile directed at me, Xia Ying said: "If you dare break it, I'll cook you!" Pretending to be scared exaggeratedly made me walk away chuckling while A Fei waited for me at the door. We headed towards the gym together only to find that everyone had basically arrived—except for Ouyang who was missing. 0
