Mu Qing paused for a moment, his throat bobbing as if he were swallowing bitter memories. "Although I didn't tell Mr. Liang about my grandfather, since then, I have distanced myself from the Gui Xu Society and started helping Mr. Liang monitor their activities."
Liang Qingsong placed a reassuring hand on Mu Qing's shoulder and said solemnly to the others, "Mu Qing has indeed helped me a lot over the years. Without the information he provided, I wouldn't have been able to grasp so many movements of the Gui Xu Society. I trust him."
Mu Qing looked up, gratitude shining in his eyes as he glanced at Liang Qingsong. He then turned his gaze deeply towards Shen Tong. "However, it turns out that having once been part of the Gui Xu Society is not entirely useless."
Standing up, Mu Qing took down a hunting knife that hung on the wall. "I know the exact location of Guixu Gate. If you decide to go, I am willing to guide you."
The group quickly reached a consensus; with Mu Qing leading the way, they would venture into Yulong Snow Mountain with Shen Tong, Lin Mingchang, and Fang Zigui in search of Guixu Gate. Xiaoshuang, being weak and unfamiliar with martial arts, stayed behind with Liang Qingsong at Mu Qing's home.
"Is Guixu Gate hard to find?" Shen Tong asked calmly.
Mu Qing furrowed his brow and nodded. "It is indeed difficult to locate. Guixu Gate is hidden deep within a canyon in Yulong Snow Mountain, where the mountains are high and the valleys deep, and the weather is unpredictable. Without a guide, it's easy to get lost."
"Mu Qing, is the journey to Guixu Gate far? How long will it take?" Lin Mingchang inquired.
"From here to Guixu Gate, it will take at least a day and a half on foot," Mu Qing replied while gesturing along the route. "Moreover, we must pass through Bai Shui Terrace before dark; otherwise, that section of the mountain path becomes treacherous and icy at night."
Fang Zigui stroked his chin thoughtfully and said, "Mu Fude mentioned that tomorrow night is the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. Given this travel time, we are quite pressed for time; it's best to set off as soon as possible."
"Haste makes waste," Liang Qingsong cautioned as he tapped on the floor. "Yulong Snow Mountain is perilous with high altitudes and extremely low temperatures. If we rush there without adequate preparation, we might not even reach Guixu Gate before being overwhelmed by the harsh mountain conditions."
Mu Qing nodded in agreement. "I'll go borrow some mountain gear from nearby hunters. Mr. Liang, please help prepare some provisions and water."
With that, Mu Qing and Liang Qingsong began to busy themselves while Mu Fude stayed behind to assist them in making thorough preparations.
Before setting off, everyone donned a set of Naxi hunter attire—thick fur-lined jackets, sheepskin vests worn over them, rabbit fur hats, and fur boots. Mu Qing also found sharp hunting knives for Lin Mingchang, Fang Zigui, and Shen Tong while he himself strapped on a curved blade.
At parting, Xiaoshuang tightly embraced Fang Zigui and then grasped Shen Tong's hand. "You must come back safely."
To lighten the mood, Lin Mingchang jokingly teased Xiaoshuang, "What? Is your brother Zigui and Sister Tong more important than your brother Lin?"
Xiaoshuang's face flushed instantly as she angrily punched Lin Mingchang, causing everyone to laugh.
Afterward, Mu Qing, Shen Tong, Lin Mingchang, and Fang Zigui gathered their necessary supplies and bid farewell to the worried Xiaoshuang, Liang Qingsong, and Mu Fude before heading towards Yulong Snow Mountain.
