After waiting for a while, Gu Youjie and the others returned, holding a bunch of drinks. I figured he would definitely hand one to Xia Ying first, so I quickly grabbed two bottles from his hands. "Sister Ying, here's a bottle of fruit juice for you. Let me open it." I twisted open one bottle and handed it to Xia Ying. I gave A Fei a knowing glance. A Fei first frowned awkwardly, then also took two bottles from Gu Youjie. However, Lu Zhiwei learned from me and opened a bottle of orange juice to hand to Zhang Yirong: "Rongrong, drink this." We played until around three in the afternoon before dispersing. After we broke up, Xia Ying stuck her tongue out at me with a smile; I guess I did pretty well as a flower protector today.
With exams approaching, I specifically went to the supermarket today to buy a new fountain pen, hoping it would bring me good luck. My mind was a mess full of knowledge. After a good sleep, I became excited thinking about summer vacation after the exams and couldn't fall asleep. When I checked the time, it was only past eight. I opened my phone and logged onto QQ only to find that most people were offline; they were probably resting well for tomorrow's exam. I opened my space and saw that Cookie had updated her status: "Good luck on tomorrow's exam!" It turns out Cookie is also an excellent student; I really didn't see that coming. After logging off QQ, I put on my headphones and closed my eyes to listen to music quietly. Before sleeping, I like to listen to some light music and a bit of slow songs that carry a hint of sadness. This time, I found a piece called "The Street Where the Wind Lives," performed with an alternative combination of piano and erhu. This classic piece is one of my favorite light music tracks; the piano's melodiousness combined with the inherent sadness of the erhu feels like two lovers who can never be together, evoking both regret and helplessness.
Today is the day of the final exam! I woke up early in the morning; my mom and dad also got up particularly early. My mom prepared a sumptuous breakfast for me while my dad went out to clean my bicycle until it shone. After breakfast, I grabbed my backpack and headed outside. "Son, good luck!" My parents called from behind me. Without turning around, I raised my fist in the air and walked out. Just as I stepped outside, A Fei happened to come out too. When we arrived at school, there was still plenty of time before the exam started. I sat on a bench under a tree and took out my textbook to review. "Hey! Big Casanova!" Suddenly someone patted my shoulder. "Xia Ying is here! Welcome!" Without looking up from my book, I replied, "Hey! That's boring; how did you know it was me? I wanted to scare you." Xia Ying sat down next to me in disappointment. Still not looking up, I said, "The reason you didn't scare me is that I've got good ears; I heard your footsteps. As for how I knew it was you... it's because no one else is as jumpy as you." "Hmph! Acting all smart like Zhuge Liang; so narcissistic," she said while taking out her textbook as well. "So how's your review going?" I asked her. She casually glanced at her book: "Not bad; I'm not like you who plays around all the time and barely passes every exam." "That's because I'm good at basketball!" I retorted defensively. Xia Ying scoffed: "Oh really? Ouyang Shangqiang plays basketball too but always ranks in the top five of our class!" "Don't mention him! What? Are you still hung up on him?!" Suddenly feeling annoyed, I exclaimed. "Yes! Yes! I'm still hung up on him; what’s it to you?" Xia Ying replied in an especially irritating tone that left me speechless.
The exam time arrived, and we entered the examination hall one after another. Shuai Dong and Pang Hao were also in my testing area, both smiling cheerfully; they seemed well-prepared for this exam. The test lasted quite a while; after finishing the last subject, I stretched lazily as I walked out of the examination room—it was already evening. Soon after, A Fei came out too, and we chatted on our way home: "A Fei, how did you do?" "Not bad; anyway, there's no way I'm failing." A Fei thought for a moment; ah! No matter what happens, this busy semester has finally come to an end—now all that's left is to relax for two months.
After the results were announced, my performance was decent—I ranked twelfth in class with all top five being girls; even among the top ten there were only two boys—clearly showing that girls were outperforming boys this time around. Ding Fang scored first in class and third overall in grade level while Xia Ying and Three Sisters ranked fourth (Gu Mei Jiao), fifth (Xia Ying), and sixth (Zhang Yirong) respectively. A Fei ranked tenth while his school beauty girlfriend Sha Xiaomei scored first overall in grade level—so it turned out quite well after all. After assigning homework for us before break began, when I walked out of school, I let out a long laugh: "Haha! Finally vacation time! Tomorrow I'll sleep in until noon!" Seeing other classmates giggling at me made no difference to me at all. "Jie! Hurry up! Teacher Qiu is looking for us!" A Fei shouted at me. Huh? What could Teacher Qiu want with us?
When we arrived at the sports department, all members of Team were already gathered there. Teacher Qiu saw us come in: "You’re here! Great! Everyone’s here now—team members—it’s summer vacation now!
