"Hey, buddy, let's be friends!" The three of them walked over, and Buzz Cut said, "You guys are professional basketball players, right? I'm Leishi Yun, the captain of the Youlong Team." He pointed at the blonde-haired guy, "This is Ouyang Shangpeng, a celebrity in street basketball in our area." The blonde smiled modestly, "It's not that exaggerated; I just like street basketball." No wonder he plays fancy basketball so well. Leishi Yun then pointed at the Long-Haired guy, "This is Pei Lu. We grew up together and are now freshmen at Chung Cheng University. You guys look like you're still in high school, right?"
"Yes, we are high school students. I'm Jiang Lingfeng, studying at Hejiang Middle School. I'll be in the third grade after school starts." Jiang Lingfeng introduced himself. "I'm Xiang Jie, and this is my close friend Yu Chengfei. We're studying at Yulin High School and will be in the second grade soon." I introduced myself as well.
"Oh? Yulin High School? Shangpeng's brother also studies there; his name is Ouyang Shangqiang and he's on the school basketball team. Do you know him?" The person named Pei Lu suddenly spoke up.
"This is Ouyang's brother?!" I exclaimed in surprise. "We're very familiar; Ouyang is both our comrade and good friend." I couldn't believe how coincidental it was to meet Ouyang's brother in the Street Basketball Championship, and even more dramatically... we had eliminated them. We started chatting happily; the three of them seemed alternative but were actually very talkative and approachable. Just like that, we made it into the main competition. We didn't know how many challenges lay ahead, but one thing was certain: there were no weak teams among the top sixteen; only stronger teams existed!
After parting ways with the Youlong Team, we exited Lijing Park; it was already past nine in the morning. "Captain, where to next?" I stretched lazily and asked Jiang Lingfeng. Jiang Lingfeng replied, "I want to go home and rest for a bit. I'm heading off; you guys do as you please." With that, Jiang Lingfeng walked away into the distance while the four of us began to stroll down the street together.
"Jie, do you think we'll run into Feather Soul later?" A Fei asked me as we walked. I thought for a moment and replied, "I don't know; however, we have a 1/15 chance of encountering them—similar to winning a blue ball in a lottery."
"That doesn't seem impossible then. If we do run into Feather Soul, what are our chances of winning?" A Fei continued to ask. "How can I guess? I'm not a fortune teller! But based on our previous encounters with Sangyue and our current lineup, it should be over fifty percent..." I estimated.
"You two stop it! It's time to relax now; it's not time for basketball talk!" Xia Ying interrupted us, so we ceased our discussion.
As we were walking, we suddenly saw two people glaring at us ahead. "Shuai Dong, Pang Hao! What are you doing here?!" We approached them. "You both have girlfriends now? Have you forgotten about us?!" Shuai Dong sneered. I could sense the suppressed tension in his tone. "Dong Ge, don't be mad! We didn't want to disturb your sweet dreams since the match was so early this morning!" I tried to lighten the mood.
"Then how come you didn't tell them? We wanted to cheer for you!" Pang Hao added.
"Alright, Shuai Dong and Pang Hao, this time we definitely won't leave you behind," A Fei said as he put his arms around their shoulders. After they vented their frustrations, they seemed to have calmed down as our group of six continued down the street.
"Cookie, Sha Xiaomei, we're at the bus stop now; you two should head back first while we hang out for a bit," I told them. They nodded knowingly and walked away.
It was almost noon; the sun was getting hotter. The four of us took shelter under some trees in Citizen Square. "Shuai Dong and Pang Hao, did you know we eliminated Ouyang's brother today? What a coincidence!" I quickly shared this interesting news with them.
"What?!" They both exclaimed in surprise with their mouths wide open. "You defeated Ouyang and stole Xia Ying from him? And now you've eliminated his brother too!" Shuai Dong's eyes widened while Pang Hao and A Fei chuckled beside him.
Ignoring their teasing, I suddenly heard a familiar voice call out to us: "A Fei! What are you doing here?" We looked up to see Zhang Yirong approaching.
"Zhang Yirong! What a coincidence! We're just hanging out; are you here for fun too?" A Fei asked somewhat awkwardly.
"I live nearby; I came over to clear my mind. Do you all want to come over to my place?" Zhang Yirong warmly invited us.
"Well... we have some things to do so maybe next time," I quickly interjected.
"Really?..." Zhang Yirong looked at me suspiciously.
"Of course! Brother Jie wouldn't lie to you; we're heading off now," I said as I hurriedly pulled them away.
On the way, I asked A Fei why he felt nervous talking to Zhang Yirong. He explained that he always felt guilty towards her which made their conversations awkward.
As noon approached, we were still wandering around on the street. "Let's play rock-paper-scissors: whoever loses buys ice pops!" I suggested enthusiastically.
"Sure!" They all agreed in unison.
"Rock-paper-scissors!" Uh... I lost. "I forgot; it should be best two out of three." Hehe, I planned to cheat a little; they initially disagreed but eventually gave in due to my persistence. To my surprise, even luck didn't favor me this time—I lost again! Looking at their eager eyes made me hesitant to play best three out of five again. Reluctantly, I let them wait by the roadside while I went across to buy ice pops from a convenience store.
"Hurry up!" they urged as they found a shady spot to cool off.
After choosing my ice pops at the store and heading to pay at the counter, someone suddenly tapped my shoulder. "Kiddo, do you remember us?" A chilling voice reached my ears as panic surged through me—I turned around and confirmed it was those middle-aged men who had caused trouble when I went into the Police Station...
