"Be careful!" Lin Mingchang drew his Hunting Knife and positioned it in front of Shen Tong. Fang Zigui and Mu Qing also unsheathed their Hunting Knives, forming a protective circle around Shen Tong with their backs against each other.
"Shi Xu Elder, do not go back on our agreement!" Mu Qing shouted loudly. "You promised that as long as Shen Tong was willing to come, you would release the villagers of Baisha Village!"
A chilling laugh erupted from beneath Shi Xu Elder's Bird Beak Mask. "Foolish traitors! With the opening of Guixu Gate, who cares about agreements? A new world is about to arrive; after tonight, the Old Order will be completely overturned!"
"Capture that woman!" Shi Xu Elder pointed at Shen Tong. "Alive! As for the others, kill them without mercy!"
At his command, the men in black surged forward with their knives drawn. Amidst the flashing blades, the four fought desperately. The air on the snow-capped peak was thick with the scent of blood, and the snow beneath them was stained a mottled dark red.
However, they were outnumbered. During the fierce battle, Lin Mingchang was slashed on the calf, blood quickly soaking through his pants and freezing into icy shards in the biting wind. Fang Zigui received a cut on his right arm; although he narrowly avoided a fatal blow, three men in black seized the opportunity to overpower him and pin him down in the snow. Shen Tong, exhausted from her earlier climb, was ultimately tackled to the ground by two men in black and captured.
"Run!" Lin Mingchang shouted to Mu Qing at the last moment before being restrained by four men in black.
Gritting his teeth, Mu Qing searched for an opportunity to escape amidst the chaos. He suddenly pushed two black-clad men aside and leaped onto a protruding rock. Then he jumped into the crevice of a nearby cliff, swiftly disappearing into the darkness thanks to his familiarity with the terrain.
"Chase after him!" Shi Xu Elder bellowed but was dissuaded by several subordinates.
"Elder, the time has come; Eclipse is about to begin. We cannot delay the ritual."
Shi Xu Elder glanced at the sky reluctantly waved his hand. "Very well, send people to search around; we must capture that traitor! The rest of you, prepare for the ritual!"
Lin Mingchang, Shen Tong, and Fang Zigui were bound tightly and brought to the altar, where they were tied to several stone pillars. It was then that they saw clearly that at the center of the altar was a massive magical array, with complex runes carved into the stones. Surrounding this array were twelve Azure Flames flickering ominously, occasionally emitting strange popping sounds.
Shi Xu Elder approached Shen Tong, his robe trailing in the snow with a rustling sound.
He reached out with a hand as dry and withered as a branch and swiftly pulled off the eye mask of Shen Tong. "These twelve Azure Flames are the result of ten years spent collecting Yuan Qi from twelve cities... If it weren't for your meddling, I could have gathered even more..." His fingers lightly traced Shen Tong's cheek, the touch cold and dry, causing her to shiver involuntarily.
Lin Mingchang and Fang Zigui shouted in unison, "Stop! Don't touch her!" They struggled desperately, but the ropes were tied too tightly, leaving their wrists chafed and bleeding.
The night deepened, dark clouds gathered over the snow-capped peaks, and thunder rumbled ominously. In the distance, the full moon hung high in the sky, its edges beginning to show faint shadows. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse was about to begin!
"Look! The Eclipse is starting!" Elder Shi Xu shouted loudly, "Tonight, the Guixu Gate will open for us!"
