The project was finally nearing its end, and Lin Yue and Zhou Yi both let out a sigh of relief. However, just at that moment, a new problem arose.
That day, Lin Yue was organizing documents in the office when she suddenly received a call from an unfamiliar number. On the other end was a man's voice, sounding somewhat anxious. "Hello, is this Lin Yue? I'm a friend of Zhou Yi. Something happened to him; he's in the hospital. You need to come quickly."
Lin Yue's heart sank at the news, and the documents in her hands fell to the floor. "What? Zhou Yi is in trouble? Which hospital is he in?"
The man provided the name of a hospital, and without a second thought, Lin Yue grabbed her bag and rushed over.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Lin Yue spotted the man who had called her standing by the emergency room door. He hurried over as soon as he saw her. "You must be Lin Yue. Zhou Yi is inside; you should go see him."
Nodding, Lin Yue pushed open the door and entered the emergency room. She saw Zhou Yi lying on the hospital bed, bandaged up and wearing a pained expression. Her heart ached at the sight, and tears nearly spilled from her eyes. "Zhou Yi, are you okay?"
Seeing her, Zhou Yi managed a faint smile. "I'm fine; I just got a little hurt. Don't worry about me."
Lin Yue sat by his bedside and gently held his hand. "What happened? How did you get hurt?"
Zhou Yi sighed. "This morning when I left home, I was hit by a car. Thankfully, it's not serious—just some superficial injuries."
Lin Yue frowned. "How could this happen? You've always been so careful!"
Zhou Yi smiled slightly. "Maybe it was just bad luck. But really, I'm okay; you don't need to worry."
As she looked at him, Lin Yue felt a mix of guilt and concern wash over her. She believed she should take some responsibility for his injury because if it weren't for the work pressure, Zhou Yi wouldn't have been so exhausted and perhaps wouldn't have had this accident.
At that moment, the man who had called walked in with a cup of water. "Zhou Yi, drink some water."
Zhou Yi took the cup, sipped from it, then turned to Lin Yue. "Lin Yue, this is my friend Xiao Li. He happened to pass by today and saw what happened; he brought me to the hospital."
Lin Yue looked up at Xiao Li and expressed her gratitude. "Thank you, Xiao Li. If it weren't for you, I don't know what would have happened to Zhou Yi."
Xiao Li smiled back. "It's nothing; that's what friends are for."
Lin Yue glanced at Zhou Yi, her heart filled with complicated emotions. She didn't know what to say but held his hand tightly, hoping he could feel her concern.
Just then, Zhou Yi's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, and his expression suddenly turned cold. Seeing this change in him made Lin Yue feel uneasy.
Zhou Yi answered the call with a somewhat distant tone. "Hello? What is it?"
A woman's voice came through on the other end—soft yet urgent. "Zhou Yi, I heard something happened to you; I'm so worried about you. Where are you? I’ll come see you right away."
Zhou Yi frowned slightly. "There's no need for that; I'm fine. You don’t have to worry."
The woman’s voice grew more anxious. "But I really am worried about you! Please let me come over."
After a moment of silence, Zhou Yi finally replied, "Alright then; come over if you want. I'm at the hospital."
Seeing Zhou Yi's expression, Lin Yue couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness in her heart. She knew that Zhou Yi's girlfriend had arrived, and a sense of disappointment washed over her, leaving her unsure whether to stay or leave.
Before long, a woman in a white dress walked in. She was quite beautiful, with a hint of worry etched on her face. Upon seeing Zhou Yi, she hurried over and asked, "Zhou Yi, are you okay?"
