Before long, Xia Ying and the Three Sisters bounced in, "The dazzling Three Sisters are here, welcome!" I shouted at them. Just as I finished speaking, a voice suddenly called out from outside, "Not just the dazzling Three Sisters, but there's also Cangzhou Second Young Master!" Bashuai Dong and Pang Hao walked in, with Shuai Dong striding confidently ahead. The Three Sisters chuckled and said, "Oh! This Cangzhou 'Second' Young Master really lives up to his name; he is quite 'second,' haha!" Zhang Yirong arrived, and Shuai Dong shot them a glance before heading toward the audience. Upon seeing Haoshuai, his expression instantly turned into a glare. After a while, Bing Ge along with Zhao Bin and Ding Fang also arrived, and within five minutes, over a hundred people came to cheer for us. This truly was a home court advantage.
About twenty minutes later, the team from City No. 2 High School arrived late. The coach from City No. 2 looked to be in his thirties, about the same age as Teacher Qiu. Who among these two young coaches has better teaching abilities? We will have to wait and see! "Da Tao!" When Chu Yuetao walked in, Xia Ying and the Three Sisters all shouted at him. Chu Yuetao made a funny face back at them, causing their classmates around to look at them with puzzled expressions. Hmph! Is our popularity really that high? We'll see who comes out on top on the court.
Chu Yuetao came over with his two Street Basketball partners. In the year since we last met, all three of them had grown quite a bit taller. Chu Yuetao and Jia Yu had grown from just over 1.7 meters to nearly 1.8 meters, while Pei Xinliang had grown even more absurdly tall, reaching around 1.85 meters. "Hey, A Fei! Long time no see!" Chu Yuetao greeted us as he walked in front. "Yeah, it's been almost a year; you really made it here! We actually met in the City High League; you could be a fortune teller," A Fei joked back. We walked over and shook hands with them one by one. "This time we will face off in an official match; don't go easy on us! Let's all give it our all!" I told them. Chu Yuetao nodded in agreement: "Yeah, let's have a real match!" After they returned to their side, Ouyang and Teacher Qiu asked us how we knew Chu Yuetao. We recounted our experiences on the Street Basketball court to them, and Teacher Qiu nodded thoughtfully.
After a while, the referee blew the whistle to start our match. Both teams' players took to the court; this time Teacher Qiu had the three musketeers start alongside Wei Weiwei and Li Kanglin. It seemed that Teacher Qiu believed we were more familiar with their playing style since we had faced off against Chu Yuetao before. The opposing team sent out Chu Yuetao, Jia Yu, Pei Xinliang, Land Route, and Hu Yue as their starters; their heights were similar to ours. A Fei and Pei Xinliang approached center court for the jump ball; Pei Xinliang won it and passed it to Chu Yuetao, who charged straight for the basket. I followed closely behind but was slower due to a slight turn; he scored easily against Li Kanglin and Wei Weiwei's defense. It seemed that Chu Yuetao's skills had improved since last year.
After we inbounded the ball, I drove straight towards their basket as well. Pei Xinliang and Chu Yuetao teamed up to defend me; I stepped back for a jump shot just outside the key area and scored as well. After making that shot, scattered applause erupted throughout the arena. As I ran back downcourt, I turned around and exchanged smiles with Chu Yuetao; today's game was getting interesting because of him. After City No. 2 High School inbounded again, Chu Yuetao made a long pass to Jia Yu. Jia ran to the corner before bouncing a pass to Pei Xinliang under the basket, who caught it and scored effortlessly—a beautiful alley-oop layup.
We returned to our backcourt for another inbound play; after crossing midcourt with the ball at the top of the arc, I suddenly launched a three-pointer that missed the rim entirely. While Li Kanglin and Pei Xinliang fought for the rebound, Pei Xinliang pushed Li aside as he passed it far to Chu Yuetao; I intercepted it mid-air! With quick reflexes, I drove towards the basket and made a behind-the-back pass to A Fei on the right wing; A Fei received it and smoothly hit a jumper—45! Thankfully we were still neck-and-neck.
City No. 2 High School continued their inbound play; Chu Yuetao noticeably picked up the pace of their offense, reminding me of the fast-paced style of play seen in NBA teams like the Golden State Warriors against the Phoenix Suns. We had no choice but to keep up with them in fast breaks; Chu Yuetao dashed downcourt for an easy layup after three quick steps. We quickly inbounded again; I drove hard towards the right wing before cutting quickly for Li Kanglin's explosive dunk... We were hitting that exhilarating rhythm! All our fans cheered loudly with continuous applause as we ended the first quarter leading by six points.
"They're playing so fast! At this rate our stamina will drop quickly; we might not be able to keep up by midway through the third quarter or into the fourth," Teacher Qiu said worriedly. "It's okay; their stamina will deplete too; by the second quarter their offensive pace should slow down," Zhongqi Senior analyzed for Teacher Qiu. "Yeah, this is indeed tiring," Ouyang added; after all, City No. 2's players weren't invincible either—there's no way I believe that Chu Yuetao can lead them through an entire game of fast-paced play!
