What had started as an impulsive moment, combined with Xu Mu Cong's earnest gaze and words at that time, had left Wen Liang feeling overwhelmed.
Despite being the only princess of Great Yu, enjoying immense favor and prestige, Wen Liang felt like nothing more than a puppet with superficial glory within just a few days. Since she could not be with the person she liked and would eventually have to marry someone else—most likely a powerful noble—she realized she was merely a pawn in someone else's game.
Originally, she had no intention of agreeing to Xu Mu Cong's proposal; regardless of whether what he said was true or not, hearing her mother's refusal made her feel that even as the only princess of Great Yu, she could not control her own marriage. Liang Fei hurried in and smiled slightly upon seeing Xu Mu Cong before speaking in an authoritative tone.

As a token of gratitude for your assistance, I have already arranged for generous gifts to be sent to your residence shortly."
After saying this, Liang Fei glanced at Wen Liang and stood between them before addressing Xu Mu Cong again.
"This palace has some matters to discuss with the princess and cannot keep you any longer. Someone, escort Young Master Xu back."
Without giving Xu Mu Cong a chance to respond, Liang Fei ordered him to be sent away. She felt that not only was Prince Xiao Xuan troublesome; Xu Mu Cong also seemed like someone who would not be easily dealt with.

Wen Liang wanted to say something, but Liang Fei stopped her. Wen Liang considered this and realized it made sense. Xu Mu Cong had not been heard from since morning; it was indeed time to go back. As for everything else, they could discuss it another day—she had already expressed her feelings.
After Xu Mu Cong left, Liang Fei looked at Wen Liang for a long moment and sighed. “You silly girl, how could you say such ridiculous things in front of your Little Prince? Fortunately, it's not too late now. Mother knows you are feeling troubled, but marriage is not something to be taken lightly.”
Wen Liang opened her mouth to respond but was interrupted by Liang Fei again. “Even if you truly want to marry Xu Mu Cong, do you know his background? His identity? You’ve only known him for a few days—how can you entrust your life to him? This world is unfair to women; even as a princess, you cannot escape societal constraints. Matters of marriage should be approached with caution. If you truly wish to marry, you should seek a good man with a solid foundation.”
“Listening to Mother, I understand that Xu Mu Cong is certainly not a good man. If you insist on this, there’s no need to rush; you can take your time and get to know him better before making a decision. As for your Little Prince, Mother will speak to him about it. You’ve had a hard time these past few days; rest well for now.”
Liang Fei patted Wen Liang's hand and spoke earnestly. It was important to stabilize her emotions first. Fortunately, Prince Xiao Xuan was staying in the palace recently; to prevent this matter from reaching the Emperor's ears and becoming a reality, Liang Fei hurriedly went to the Empress Dowager’s palace.

“Is that so? I didn’t see her; she must have been talking about your marriage.”
Wen Liang was startled and quickly explained that her earlier words were just an impulsive outburst and that she hadn’t meant them seriously after hearing that Prince Xiao Xuan was merely teasing Liang Fei.
“Shouldn’t you be outside the palace then? I heard… I heard he went to the border, and Father has arranged some duties for you? Sneaking away here for some leisure?”
Wen Liang's expression changed when mentioning Mu Junze; she used to refer to him as Uncle Emperor but now simply called him by his name. Prince Xiao Xuan did not look up but sighed dramatically at what Wen Liang said.
“Don’t mention it. Now that you're back, you must have heard about my elder brother's marriage?”
It seemed he was unaware of Wen Liang’s feelings for Mu Junze. However, he rarely stayed in the capital and mostly traveled under the guise of sightseeing. Since Wen Liang was younger than them, he thought of her as just a child and didn’t think much of it.
“I heard… it’s a man.”
At this point, Wen Liang felt a sharp pain in her heart. Prince Xiao Xuan nodded seriously as he sat up straight before shaking his head again.
