"It must be Mr. Jiang," Xiao Junyong concluded, leaving Jin Shengkai with a warning. "You better watch yourself and don't mention me." He had made up his mind; he wanted nothing to do with Jin Shengkai.
"Xiao, Master Xiao, what's going on? Brother Kun, Brother Kun..." Jin Shengkai was not foolish. Hearing Xiao Junyong's tone, he realized he had gotten himself into serious trouble. The person named Jiang Chen was someone he could not afford to offend.
"Jin Shengkai, don't say you know me either. Go apologize to Mr. Jiang yourself. Do whatever it takes to earn his forgiveness," Zhao Weiqian advised, trembling with fear. Today had been incredibly unlucky; it felt like trouble was coming for him.
"Uh, Brother Kun, can you tell me who Mr. Jiang really is? I need to know what I'm up against," Jin Shengkai asked cautiously.
"Do you know how Feng Laowu died?"
"It can't be..."
"Just know that if you offend Mr. Jiang, you're on your own. And don't even think about saying you know me or Master Xiao. If Mr. Jiang doesn't kill you, we certainly won't let you off the hook." Zhao Weiqian hung up after delivering his harsh words.
Jin Shengkai slumped onto the sofa as he heard the dial tone, realizing he had truly stepped into a minefield this time.
"Boss, what's wrong?" His subordinate quickly inquired upon seeing his boss's dazed expression.
Jin Shengkai sat there in deep thought for a long while before finally making a decision. "Alright, it's settled then. Prepare ten million in cash tonight and bring out my Tang Dynasty Golden Buddha. Tomorrow morning, we’re going to see Mr. Jiang."
"Huh? Boss, what are you planning to do?"
"We've offended someone we shouldn't have. We need to spend money to avert disaster and hope to escape this calamity," Jin Shengkai said anxiously. The fact that Zhao Weiqian and Xiao Junyong were so wary of Mr. Jiang made him shudder at the thought of what kind of person he truly was.
Meanwhile, Jiang Chen was unaware of Jin Shengkai's current state of mind. After dinner with Xiong Sumei, she seemed to have more to say and suggested they go shopping together. Jiang Chen wanted to buy a new outfit since he had been wearing the same clothes for two years now. Although his body was now pure and untainted, it was time for a change.
As they walked down the street, Xiong Sumei hesitated to speak her mind.
Jiang Chen didn't wander far; he spotted a Hua Sheng leisure brand store next to the hotel and decided to check it out since it was his company's product line.
Xiong Sumei had many thoughts swirling in her mind but found it hard to express them. When she saw Jiang Chen heading into the clothing store, she followed him inside.
"Jiang Chen, why not try another store? This brand seems a bit low-end," Xiong Sumei remarked. As a second-tier domestic brand, she naturally looked down on it; now that Jiang Chen's image had elevated in her eyes, she felt such a low-end brand didn't suit him at all.
"I don't have high standards for clothing," Jiang Chen replied with a smile. "This brand was quite popular when I was in middle school; it's not mainstream but still pretty good." He picked out an outfit and a pair of shoes for just six hundred yuan without mentioning that Hua Sheng was his own company's brand. Since he only held the title of chairman and had not been involved in operations for some time, no one else knew either.
Xiong Sumei chuckled awkwardly; the more he acted this way, the more enigmatic he became to her.
