We played aggressively and took the initiative in this match. After six minutes, we were already leading the opponent by nine points with a score of 167, including a 50-point surge that completely stunned the Demon Skull Team. This time, it was Wufengyun from the Demon Skull Team organizing the offense. When he dribbled the ball next to me, he smiled at me, then executed a high dribble pass. The ball just cleared me and he caught it again. I was momentarily dumbfounded; was this the high dribble pass to get past someone? It was spectacular! After getting past me, Wufengyun retreated to the top of the arc and took a three-pointer—swish! 1610. This brought the seemingly distant score much closer. It turned out that Wufengyun had always been a hidden master of Street Basketball; we couldn't underestimate him.
After we inbounded the ball, I initiated an attack. When I reached the free-throw line, I made a behind-the-back pass to Ouyang, but unexpectedly, Lu Qiu intercepted it successfully and passed it back to Wufengyun. He scored over A Fei with a layup—161. We had just been hit back with another 50! After we inbounded again, I held onto the ball steadily and slowly penetrated toward the basket. After passing to A Fei between my legs, I moved inside the three-point line. A Fei received the ball and charged toward the basket for a dunk, crashing into Qi Hui who was trying to block him. The ball was forcefully dunked into the hoop—181. With just one minute left in the game, we had only managed to score two points in the last three minutes thanks to that dunk.
If we could hold on for these final sixty seconds, we would win since our advantage was still quite clear. After their inbound play, Wufengyun suddenly dashed toward the basket facing me. I quickly positioned myself in front of him, but unexpectedly, Wufengyun used his momentum to spin past me and jumped for a shot—it went in! 1814. There were still forty-five seconds left, and with a four-point gap, we were still not safe. If we scored again, it would basically secure our victory and subtly change the mindset of the Demon Skull Team. Therefore, this offensive play had to succeed!
After we inbounded, I controlled the ball from the baseline. The handling of this ball could not be careless; otherwise, it would give Demon Skull Team an opportunity to counterattack. I slowly brought the ball to the top of the arc while wasting time. I raised my head and watched as time ticked away second by second when suddenly Wufengyun seized an opportunity while I wasn't paying attention. He snatched the ball from my hands and quickly stepped inside the three-point line before stepping back out to take another three-pointer—swish! 1817. There were only twenty-five seconds left, and we were down to just one point! From leading 167 midway through the game to now being at 1817, we had only scored two points in four minutes while they unleashed a powerful 10-point surge against us. Our seemingly unbreakable advantage crumbled in an instant.
"Three swords strike together; unstoppable offense and undefeated in battle!" Shuai Dong led Pang Hao, Situ Yanan, Xia Ying, and Sha Xiaomei in shouting this chant while Situ Jianfei and Zhao Bin clapped along with their rhythm from the sidelines. With such a supportive group cheering for us, we absolutely could not let them down! After we inbounded again, I received the ball and organized our final offensive play of this match. I passed to Ouyang who ran to the top of the arc and gave me a knowing look; I understood immediately and ran over to set a screen with my body against Lu Qiu and Wufengyun. Ouyang took his chance to shoot but missed! Qi Hui grabbed a crucial rebound! He then passed it out to Wufengyun as I rushed forward but was tightly guarded by Lu Qiu. Wufengyun shot from near the free-throw line—swish! 1819! At the last moment of the game, we were overtaken by Demon Skull Team!
With just nine seconds left on the clock and trailing by one point, there was still hope. We had only scored two points in the entire second half due to constant turnovers that handed possession over to our opponents—this was a painful lesson learned from our mistakes. It was once again down to a clutch shot; our supporters fell silent at this moment, all focused on our final offensive play. After we inbounded, I passed to Ouyang expecting him to control it slowly; however, as soon as he received it, he stepped back one step to take a three-pointer—swish! 119! Ouyang's shot was incredibly accurate! There were still five seconds left on the clock; we were still not safe though—if Demon Skull Team made a two-pointer they would tie us up for free throws; if they made a three-pointer, we would be eliminated.
Demon Skull Team began their inbound play; this shot had to be defended! Wufengyun quickly passed to Lu Qiu who ran toward zero degrees before directly passing under the basket to Qi Hui. Qi Hui received it and went for a layup as A Fei and Ouyang jumped up simultaneously for interference—the ball spun around on the rim twice before bouncing out! The game ended! Our supporters stood up waving banners shouting: "Win! With our three swords striking together, we're definitely invincible!" I stood there for a moment before coming back to my senses; this match had been incredibly thrilling! Thinking back now sends chills down my spine; life and death hung by a thread just moments ago. It's hard to imagine how much pressure we would have faced if Qi Hui's shot had gone in—but thankfully it didn't. Who knows if we'd have such luck next time?
The Demon Skull Team approached us; their captain Lu Qiu seemed unfazed by their loss: "Congratulations on reaching the semifinals! This journey in Street Basketball Championship has taught us many things; although we've lost... losing to last year's National Championship team is nothing to be ashamed of!" "So you knew about us?" I asked in surprise as he nodded: "Actually, we recognized you all as members of last year's Dream Chasers Team right from the start; we just didn't break that barrier." We thought that 'Three Swordsmen' sounded mysterious; turns out everyone knew we were last year's Dream Chasers' core members—but without their leader now, as Three Swordsmen, I am their leader!
"A Fei is amazing!" Sha Xiaomei rushed over. I quickly cleared my throat: "Ahem, Class Flower please mind your image; don't let people see you like this in public—girls should understand gracefulness and modesty..." Sha Xiaomei stopped in her tracks and glared at me: "Hmph! What does it matter if people see? We all saw Yingying hug you before the match too; so what?" "Shh! Let's not talk about that; those are beautiful memories now," I joked with her while Sha Xiaomei pouted: "Just half an hour ago you call that memories? Your memories sure come fast."
