Then we set off towards Shuai Dong's house, continuing to hold the cake in our hands. On the bus, we were still discussing how to surprise the birthday boy, Shuai Dong. We got off midway to buy a stylish cream cake because this guy loves to have fun, and we wanted to give him an unforgettable birthday. Before long, we arrived at his doorstep and rang the doorbell. The door opened, and we smashed the prepared cream cake right onto Shuai Dong's face. "Happy Birthday!" we laughed as we walked in. Shuai Dong wiped the cake off his face and said, "You two are really too mischievous; you hit me in the face as soon as I opened the door." "Haha, you're the birthday boy today; who else should we hit?" When we walked in, we saw Situ Jianfei, Zhao Bin, Yin Long, Ouyang, and Pang Hao watching TV. "A Fei and Jie are here; come on in!" Shuai Dong's mom quickly welcomed us to sit down. "Aunt Shi, you don't need to treat us like outsiders; heh heh," I said with a grin, and Aunt Shi laughed: "You're right; you're not outsiders. Just have fun; there's drinks in the fridge, and we've ordered takeout on the coffee table. We've also prepared two big bags of snacks on the sofa. Uncle Shi and I will step aside."
Aunt Shi then went into another room. Shuai Dong returned and said, "So you all have it planned out, right? Jianfei, why didn't you bring Yanan? Zhao Bin, why did you leave Ding Fang behind? A Fei and Jie, what's most annoying is that you two didn't bring Xia Ying and Sha Xiaomei along! What do you mean by this?! Can a birthday party be lively without any girls?" Shuai Dong shouted at us angrily. Ouyang sighed in relief and said softly, "Phew! Good thing I don't have a girlfriend; I'm just a good guy here, heh heh." Upon hearing this, Shuai Dong immediately pointed his finger at Ouyang: "Ouyang Shangqiang, you're the most detestable!" Ouyang scratched his head in confusion: "What did I do wrong this time?" "Who told you not to hurry up and find a girlfriend? If you had one, wouldn't you be able to bring a girl along?" Shuai Dong retorted, leaving Ouyang speechless. I quickly tried to smooth things over: "Alright, alright, today is your birthday, Shuai Dong. Let's not involve women; isn't it better to have a gathering of men?"
"Sounds good! I'll go get some beer; let's drink what men should drink!" Pang Hao stood up and headed for the fridge. Hearing about drinking made me stand up too: "I'll help out; let me serve you guys today!" When Pang Hao and I opened the fridge door, we were completely stunned: there were many different drinks and fruits—Sprite, Coke, juice, nutritional drinks, grapes, peaches, bananas… all piled up high—except for any alcoholic beverages. Helplessly, my buddy grabbed a few bottles of Coke and Sprite. "Here we go; just close your eyes and pretend it's beer!" We placed a bunch of drinks on the table. Zhao Bin asked, "No beer in the fridge?" Pang Hao and I nodded. Shuai Dong came over and lowered his head: "How about I sneak out to buy some? There's a supermarket right downstairs..." "Forget it; if Uncle and Aunt find out later, they'll worry. Let's just drink Coke; birthday boy, you're doomed!" Situ Jianfei started shaking a Coke bottle while we picked up sodas with mischievous smiles looking at Shuai Dong. He seemed to guess what was coming and looked at us with panic in his eyes: "What are you guys doing? I… I'm going to scream…" "Scream away; even if you shout your throat raw, no one will care!" We wickedly twisted open the Coke bottles...
We had a great time at this gathering. Uncle Shi and Aunt Shi wisely stayed away from the door. We formed a circle around Shuai Dong with soda sprays and then started a multi-person cake battle. After a long period of intense competition that night finally relaxed us. In the end, we lay sprawled on the floor quietly looking at the Flower Board. "Tomorrow there's no competition; let's go have some fun together!" I suggested. Zhao Bin replied: "Sure! Where should we go? The weather forecast says it might rain tomorrow." "Haha! Rain is even better; let's go get soaked! Let's go hiking; it's been a while since we've hiked. There's a pavilion at the top of the mountain; if we want to avoid getting wet, we'll have to climb up first." Shuai Dong grinned mischievously. "Alright then! Make sure to bring food and water; otherwise we'll get caught in the rain at the top!" I was excited.
The next day we arrived at the foot of the mountain as promised; it was indeed drizzling lightly. With our heavy backpacks on our backs, we began climbing. "Ready? Go!" With Shuai Dong's command, we dashed off—it was like running with weights while braving this misty rain was truly an exercise for our leg muscles. By halfway up the mountain, the rain became heavier until it developed into a steady downpour. We had no choice but to stop midway to take shelter from the rain. I had brought an umbrella in my backpack; after opening it up, I sat down on one of the steps leading up the mountain while A Fei sat ten meters above me catching his breath. I was second place; Ouyang was ten steps below me. From my position I could barely see Situ Jianfei and Zhao Bin; as for Shuai Dong and Pang Hao… they were completely out of sight—those two were definitely not cut out for sports.
After a while, as the rain continued to pour harder, I kept moving slowly under my umbrella while Ouyang and A Fei followed suit without wanting to fall behind. We raced like this until after more than twenty minutes when we finally reached the top of the mountain. I put away my umbrella and sat down in front of the pavilion just as it started pouring heavily again—phew! Luckily we climbed up through the rain; otherwise we'd have gotten drenched halfway up! That would have been worse.
