The theme of the escape room.
It is a thrilling escape room inspired by a Thai horror film, and it has become a popular spot for visitors in recent years.
The door behind us closed, and ahead lay a dark, narrow corridor. Suddenly, a red light flickered at the end, and blood-red subtitles rolled across the ticket booth above—
"Vengeful Spirits Await."
A cold breeze swept through, and eerie theme music began to play, causing the person next to me to stiffen.
I grasped his hand. "If you're scared, you can hold onto me."
His palm felt cool, indicating he was indeed frightened. Perhaps sensing my warmth, his tense body gradually relaxed.
"Five minutes have passed," Xing Yishen whispered as he glanced at the two chattering boys.
He was keeping track of time.
Fei Jitou and Mr. Loudshirt flanked Qi Qi, examining the poster on the wall featuring a half face, discussing how to find clues to enter the cinema.
A Shuang trailed behind, feeling out of place.
I patted her shoulder; she jumped slightly but smiled when she saw me.
"You can join us."
A Shuang nodded and moved closer. "Thank you, sister."
The walkie-talkie crackled twice, and Tattooed Boss's voice came through. "Now, everyone take a look at the movie tickets we just gave you; find your corresponding cinema hall number."
It was quite a coincidence that both Xing Yishen and I were in Hall Two, and so was A Shuang.
Qi Qi and the two boys were in Hall Three.
If only we could ensure we stayed together the entire time.
After winding through another corridor, an NPC came charging at us, swinging a spiked club. Our task was to hide in the corresponding screening room.
Honestly, Xing Yishen was too timid.
When the NPC approached, he grabbed my hand and took off running. The door to the screening room slammed shut behind us, making a loud bang that left the NPC momentarily stunned.
I suddenly found it amusing.
With the door closed, it was pitch black inside, and the three of us were temporarily safe.
"What are you laughing at?"
I tilted my head, "Xing Yishen, are you afraid of ghosts?"
In the darkness of the cinema, a faint light seeped through the crack of the door, and I could see his slight embarrassment.
A Shuang moved cautiously a couple of times.
Xing Yishen glanced over my shoulder, his expression changing, "Why is it you?"
My heart skipped a beat.
I turned to look.
"Where's A Shuang?"
"She should be in Hall Three, probably hanging out with them." Qi Qi brushed her messy hair aside. "I was so scared earlier that I went the wrong way."
I glanced at her hand. "Did you also take the wrong ticket?"
"It was A Shuang who insisted on swapping with me—"
"I think it was you who insisted on swapping with her," I interrupted, my tone sharp.
Qi Qi's expression faltered. "So what? We're all on the same team. Are you really that afraid of having a guy around your boyfriend? If you're not happy about it, why don't you go find her and swap back?"
Hearing this, Xing Yishen kicked the door.
The door was electronic; without access control or a master switch, it couldn't be opened.
A trembling voice from the intercom spoke again, "Oh my God, I told you not to hit NPCs, but I never said you could kick the door..."
"This door is expensive..."
"This is a main quest. You can only stay in Hall Two for 20 minutes at most. Find the clues and you can come out."
"Please, just stop kicking the door..."
Xing Yishen paused and locked eyes with me.
Twenty minutes.
"It should be between 9:35 and 9:37," he whispered.
We have enough time to meet up.
A Shuang can survive.
I've figured it out; Qi Qi really likes Xing Yishen.
It makes sense, after all. A tough cop, handsome and a dreamboat for girls.
Xing Yishen stood to my left, and she turned to his side, tugging at him, saying she was scared.
Xing Yishen, annoyed, moved to my right, and she circled back, claiming she felt someone behind her.
The scene resembled—
An eagle catching a chick.
Finally, Xing Yishen couldn't take it anymore. He leaned down and whispered in my ear, "Girlfriend, say something?"
But what should I say?
Suddenly, I jumped into his arms and wrapped my arms around his waist. "Wuwuwu, it's so dark here. I'm so scared..."
The air fell silent.
Xing Yishen paused for a moment but then placed his hand on my head.
"This sister of yours, does her reflex arc go around the Earth three times?"
"Ha ha, you're too kind."
After spending some time, I found all the clues in Hall Two and placed them in their corresponding spots.
The skull with glowing green eyes startled Xing Yishen, and for some reason, it looked a bit cute.
Tattooed Boss instructed us over the intercom to take our seats in the screening room. Eerie music began to play, and the white screen flickered with snowflakes, alternating between bright and dim.
It had the right atmosphere.
No-Face Man made a dramatic entrance, his hoarse roar fitting the scene perfectly.
Xing Yishen clutched my arm tightly, too scared to open his eyes.
"Next, our vengeful spirit will randomly select a lucky person to take away. The rest of you will need to work together to rescue them." The voice from the intercom crackled ominously.
"Please stand up if you are the lucky one with a ticket dated April 14th."
Got it, just the basics of an escape room game.
