We stood on the highest podium of the City High League, and the audience raised their arms high. The three of us tightly embraced each other, and when the award presenter handed the championship trophy to me, the team captain, I lifted it high into the air. The crowd cheered, "The Three Musketeers! The Three Musketeers!" In that moment, I felt as if I had returned to last year when we reached the top. When I handed the trophy to Ouyang, he was already in tears, fully expressing his excitement and shouting hoarsely, his voice echoing throughout the venue. Surrounded by all the fans and spectators, we exited the competition area. Outside, the atmosphere remained gloomy. The three of us, holding the trophy and wearing our medals, left Lake City Park and headed straight for the bus stop to visit Shuai Dong and Pang Hao at the hospital. Our championship trophy attracted many passengers' attention on the bus.
Upon arriving at the hospital, we rushed to their ward door and took a deep breath before pushing open the door. Situ Jianfei and Zhao Bin were chatting with them. Shuai Dong was already awake, and the four of us gathered around Pang Hao's bed in a circle.
"Brothers!" I shouted. They all turned around in unison. "We brought this back for you!" Ouyang held up the trophy. We walked in, and Situ Jianfei came over to take the trophy to Pang Hao's side. "Jianfei and Zhao Bin brought back the championship trophy! You guys take a look!" The four of them gathered closely to examine it. Shuai Dong turned his head and said, "Nice job, you guys! It must be thanks to my banner that motivated you, right? Looks like my injury with Pang Hao wasn't in vain, but it really hurt us." Shuai Dong seemed to be in a good mood. "Shuai Dong, do you have any aftereffects? Like brain short-circuiting or something?" I joked as I pulled up a chair to sit down next to him. Shuai Dong came over and punched my chest playfully: "Shut your crow mouth! Just yesterday was my birthday, and now I've hit my head! Looks like this year at 19 is going to be full of misfortunes!" Shuai Dong sighed. Pang Hao stroked the trophy and asked me, "Jianfei, when are we going to Beijing for the North China Finals?"
"Early morning three days later. This year's Street Basketball Championship schedule is really packed; it's much more intense than last year," I said as I casually picked up an apple to eat. "Huh? Three days later? Can we still go? The doctor hasn't told us when we can be discharged!" Shuai Dong exclaimed anxiously. A Fei quickly added, "Don't get too excited; if we can't go, then let's not go. We'll try our best to bring back the North China Champion too." "Hey... can you bring it back without our championship banner?" Shuai Dong sighed quietly. "Haha, your banner has really become a championship banner!" Zhao Bin teased from the side. Shuai Dong leered at us: "The Three Musketeers won the city championship... so you've got ten thousand yuan in prize money now..." "Well then, A Fei, Ouyang, we still have things to do after we go back; let's hurry up! Shuai Dong, Pang Hao, take care of your injuries; we're leaving first," I said quickly as I sensed trouble brewing and called my teammates to retreat. "No running away!" Shuai Dong shouted and came over: "You think you can slip away just like that? In your dreams! You have to treat us!"
"Alright, alright, I'll treat you! But you two seem like you can't go out right now anyway; tomorrow we'll bring you some fried cakes and youtiao as a treat," I joked with him. Pang Hao chimed in from the side: "Jianfei and Zhao Bin can go first; just bring us back a big meal each! Remember, no meal should be less than a hundred yuan!" "Okay okay, I agree; it's settled!" Shuai Dong echoed enthusiastically. Wow! I didn't expect that seemingly honest Pang Hao would be so ruthless about this; but since we've won prize money, why not treat them? "Alright alright, I'll definitely make sure you guys are stuffed! Jianfei, Zhao Gongzi, let's go grab a meal!" I said as I pulled Situ Jianfei and Zhao Bin along with me. As we left, Shuai Dong and Pang Hao shouted in unison: "Come back early! We haven't eaten much this morning; we're saving our stomachs for your meal!" It turned out these two had already calculated that we would win; they were truly cunning.
After leaving the hospital, we headed straight for a restaurant not far from there. Once inside our private room and after ordering food, we chatted for a while before I went out to use the restroom. When I returned, I suddenly saw three familiar figures—those three thugs! One of them had a scruffy beard and looked like he had just come out of a hospital bandage; they walked into the restaurant and sat down. I quickly turned my back and slowly made my way toward our room—there was no way they could find me; otherwise it would be trouble! Just as I was about two meters away from the door, I felt someone grip my shoulder. Slowly turning around, I saw that tall skinny guy grinning at me: "Hey kiddo, here we meet again! Last time your friend meddled too much and gave us black eyes; this time we should settle our score." The other two came over as well. I forced a smile at him and then mustered my courage to shout loudly: "Help! Murder!"
Everyone in the restaurant turned to look at us upon hearing my shout; those three thugs suddenly felt awkward and started looking flustered. A kind-hearted customer shouted: "Why are three big men bullying this kid?" The hot-tempered Mutton Chops replied immediately: "What are you yelling about? Are we bothering you?" "Hey! What do you mean by that? Bullying someone is justified now?" "Exactly! How can this be allowed?" "Don't waste time arguing with them; call the police..." Customers began discussing among themselves when Situ Jianfei and his friends heard the commotion and came out: "What's going on? What happened?" Situ Jianfei started rolling up his sleeves while A Fei was shocked upon seeing those thugs: "It's them!" "Who? What do they do?" Zhao Bin asked confusedly. I broke free from the skinny guy's grip and walked over to Situ Jianfei and Zhao Bin: "These are the thugs who injured me before and have been causing us trouble multiple times; last time A Fei and Haoshuai saw them harassing a middle-aged woman before Haoshuai beat them up—it’s them!" I glared at them again; our grudge had run deep...
