We arrived at Kuda Square again, and the three members of the Gray Machine Team were already practicing inside. I saw them working hard on their shots. The three members of the Gray Machine Team were quite low-key, with neatly styled hair. The tallest among them was about 1.85 meters, while the other two were around 1.75 meters. "You are the Gray Machine Team, right? Hello, we are the Three Musketeers," I greeted them first. The tallest one smiled and walked over, saying, "Yes, we are the Gray Machine Team. It's a pretty memorable name, isn't it?" I didn't expect their captain to be so humorous. Then the two shorter ones came over, and one of them chimed in, "Hey, buddy, don't get it wrong; he's not the captain. That guy over there is! Haha!" The tall guy slapped his forehead and said, "Come on! Even if I'm not the captain, I can still act like one! There are only three of us on the team—one captain and two vice-captains. Can't I be one?"
Haha, the members of the Gray Machine Team are really interesting; just hearing their team name shows how humorous they are. "Then I am also one of the vice-captains of the Three Musketeers, Ouyang Shangqiang!" Ouyang joked with them as well. The official captain of the Gray Machine Team, who had been quiet until now, asked, "Are you three still students?" "Yes, we are second-year students from Yulin High School. What about you?" I asked him. Upon hearing this, he slowly lowered his head with a somewhat helpless expression and said, "We dropped out of school. After graduating from high school this year, we decided not to go to college..." "Huh?? What do you plan to do in the future?" We were all surprised and couldn't understand why they would drop out instead of going to college. The tall guy's carefree demeanor faded as he said seriously, "We feel our grades aren't good enough and believe that even if we went to college, it would be a waste of time and money. So it's better to come down early and find jobs to help support our families."
I suddenly felt pity for the members of the Gray Machine Team. However, on the court, we would definitely not go easy on them. After a while, spectators began to enter; there weren't many today—perhaps they were waiting for the Beijing team's match in the afternoon! The referee stepped onto the court and tossed a coin; it was our ball possession. I took possession first and started organizing an attack. The captain of the Gray Machine Team ran over to defend me. I quickly used Lingbo Microstep to dodge him and made a long-range layup successfully, scoring the first points of the game. The opposing team quickly inbounded the ball; their captain passed it to a forward at the top of the arc. After receiving the ball, the forward took a three-point shot but missed! A Fei fought for the rebound with the Center from Gray Machine Team; after getting the ball, A Fei passed it to me. I dribbled around towards a 45-degree angle on the court while Ouyang circled around for support. After bouncing a pass to him, I continued toward the basket for an assist; Ouyang jumped up from the free-throw line and scored!
The opposing Center shook his head as he went to inbound from the sideline. The Point Guard received the ball and controlled it before tossing it high to their Center under the basket. The latter caught it and jumped high for a beautiful one-handed dunk that went in—4 points! After we inbounded again, I held onto the ball outside of zero-degree angle three-point range while being pressured by their Point Guard who rushed in for a steal. I spun around behind my back before passing it to Ouyang on my left side; unexpectedly, their forward suddenly appeared out of nowhere and snatched the ball away! He then passed it to their Point Guard who took a three-pointer from beyond the arc—swish! 4 points! With that three-pointer, they closed in on us again.
After we inbounded again, I passed to Ouyang who maneuvered inside the paint while A Fei sprinted toward the basket. Ouyang made a behind-the-back pass to A Fei who caught it and went straight for a layup off the backboard—6 points! Our level of teamwork was currently stronger than that of Gray Machine Team; while their individual skills were decent, their collective coordination wasn't as practiced as ours due to our time spent fighting side by side in Team.
The game continued as we played aggressively; however, midway through, they found their rhythm. Their captain hit consecutive three-pointers within one minute while their Center did well under the basket too; their forwards were also hitting shots from mid-range consistently. With their Center scoring another layup, we fell behind by one point at 01 with only two minutes left in regulation time. We were essentially back at square one; based on scores alone, they seemed slightly more likely to win than us now.
After we inbounded again, I held onto the ball inside zero-degree angle range before passing directly to A Fei who was trailing behind me. A Fei received it and went for a three-step layup... but got blocked by their Center! The ball flew into their forward's hands who stepped back beyond the arc before passing it back to their Center who caught it and immediately shot over his shoulder—0 points! With just one minute thirty-two seconds left in playtime, we were trailing by more than three points now—Xiang Jie—don't panic; there's still time.
After we inbounded again, I slowly walked past the free-throw line before suddenly executing an aerial spin followed by a step-back jumper that went in! With just one minute eight seconds left in playtime, they quickly inbounded again; their Point Guard faced me while dribbling side-to-side before suddenly jumping up over my head shooting a cold arrow that arced through mid-air... but missed! No wait—that wasn't a shot... it was an assist! Sure enough, their Center leaped high to catch it and dunked it into the basket—5 points! With fifty-three seconds remaining in playtime, we fell behind by three points again.
This isn't good—we must hit a three-pointer to tie up or we'll be in serious trouble! After we inbounded again, I started running actively while Ouyang and A Fei understood my intent and ran alongside me too. While running, I suddenly passed my ball out towards Ouyang at top arc position; without hesitation upon receiving it he decisively took a three-point shot—if Ouyang's shot doesn't go in now then we're really in big trouble!
