At the moment the Silver Moon mask shattered, Selene's pupils constricted sharply. The face beneath the mask was strikingly similar to her father, who she believed had died long ago. "Impossible..." Her voice trembled, and the Blade of the Dark Moon nearly slipped from her grasp. Ronan struggled to rise, clutching his wound. "When Lady Aelia was taken away, your father disappeared... It turns out he was the mastermind behind it all."
"Why?" Tears streamed down Selene's face as the patterns of the Dark Moon pulsed violently with her emotions. "Why did you betray Mother and the entire werewolf clan?" Her father—now she should call him Ying Yue—grimaced as he wiped blood from the corner of his mouth. "Because only absolute power can protect you!"
Memories flooded back like a tidal wave. Twelve years ago, Ying Yue uncovered the secret of the Moon Goddess: the so-called balance of light and shadow was nothing but a lie. To free Selene from the curse of the Dark Moon, he willingly became a puppet of the Moon Temple, secretly gathering Dark Moon power in an attempt to create a new order for werewolves. "But I failed..." His voice was filled with regret. "Instead, I caused your mother... so many Dark Moon kin..."
Selene looked at her father's chest, where the same Dark Moon patterns resided, now corrupted by darkness. The souls of those Dark Moon Alphas he had drained were now spilling from him, forming sorrowful wolf shadows in the void. "You knew about their deaths..." Her voice choked as the light on the Blade of the Dark Moon began to dim.
Ronan suddenly pressed his hand on her shoulder, warmth seeping through his blood-stained sleeve. "Do you remember what your mother said in the Memory Corridor?" His thumb brushed away her tear-streaked cheek. "Light and shadow are one; true redemption is not annihilation but acceptance."
Ying Yue's body began to fade, dark energy leaking from his shattered heart. He gazed at the twin moon totem around Selene's neck and smiled with relief. "So the mark of the Twin Wolf Kings... truly can merge the powers of Dark Moon and Wolf King." He reached out to touch her but was met with a backlash of darkness just as their fingers were about to connect.
"Father!" Selene instinctively grasped his hand, and the Dark Moon patterns clashed violently with the dark energy within him. Ronan immediately infused her with Wolf King fire, and three colors of light swirled between them, gradually restoring purity to Ying Yue's Dark Moon patterns.
"Enough..." Ying Yue shook his head. "I have long been consumed by darkness; seeing you become the true Dark Moon Wolf King before I die is enough." He looked at Ronan, an apology flickering in his eyes. "Take care of her... just as your mother took care of me back then..."
Before he could finish speaking, Ying Yue's body transformed into countless specks of Dark Moon light, merging into Selene's patterns. Her Dark Moon mark suddenly emitted a blinding silver light that completely fused with Ronan's Wolf King mark, forming a suspended twin moon crystal between them—inside lay all the memories and powers of the Dark Moon Alphas.
The ancient city trembled and began to collapse as Selene clutched the crystal ball and rushed toward the exit while Ronan's battle blade cleaved through shadows behind them. As they tumbled out of the ruins, the first rays of dawn pierced through the clouds and illuminated the crystal ball, reflecting countless smiling faces of werewolves—those who had been consumed by Ying Yue were finally liberated.
"He wasn't purely evil." Selene gazed at the crystal ball; her Dark Moon patterns no longer pained her. "He just chose the wrong way, much like how the Moon Temple ruled through fear." Ronan nodded and pulled her into his embrace. "But we can choose a different path—a path where light and shadow coexist."
