"I'll go eat first," Jiang Jiewen said with a smile.
"Go ahead," Jiang Chen replied with a faint smile.
Jiang Jiewen joined her classmates, while Jiang Chen approached Qi Mu and the others, who were naturally filled with questions about Jiang Jiewen and Jiang Chen.
"Jiang Chen, when did you meet Jiang Jiewen?"
"What’s your relationship with Jiang Jiewen?" Qi Mu and the others asked curiously.
"I've known her since middle school. Don't you know her? We're just friends," Jiang Chen explained.
"I don't think it's just a normal friendship," Qi Mu said, looking at Jiang Chen with a knowing expression.
Jiang Chen shook his head, feeling helpless.
Meanwhile, Jiang Jiewen was surrounded by a group of girls, whose curiosity was even stronger.
"Jiang Jiewen, who is he?"
"His name is Jiang Chen," Jiang Jiewen replied with a smile.
"Why do I feel like you like him?"
For this sensitive question, everyone expected Jiang Jiewen to evade it, but after a brief pause, she answered resolutely, "You're right; I do like him. I had a deep impression of him in middle school. Later, during our senior year, when I heard he broke up with his girlfriend, I decided to like him."
"What? No way! Is he your first love?" Her classmates were shocked and found it hard to believe.
Jiang Jiewen nodded with a blush, stealing a glance at Jiang Chen, her eyes filled with sweet satisfaction.
Her feelings for Jiang Chen had been a secret before, but now she felt it shouldn't be kept hidden anymore. Speaking out lightened her heart significantly.
"Wait a minute, Jiang Jiewen, didn't you just say you don't have a boyfriend?"
"Even though I like Jiang Chen, he hasn't agreed to be my boyfriend yet. But I will keep trying," Jiang Jiewen said earnestly.
"No way!"
"Seriously?"
"Is that true?"
Unsurprisingly, Jiang Jiewen's words immediately drew teasing remarks from her classmates; even her homeroom teacher frowned in disbelief.
Jiang Chen was just an average-looking guy riding an electric bike, while Jiang Jiewen was the goddess of their class—an academic star from a well-off family with impressive qualities in every aspect. The two clearly belonged to different worlds; to put it bluntly, it was like a frog dreaming of swan meat. Now it seemed that the swan was offering itself willingly, yet the frog was reluctant to accept. Such an impossible scenario unfolding in reality was truly mind-boggling; no wonder even Jiang Jiewen's homeroom teacher felt overwhelmed by it all.
“Jiang Jiewen, are you saying that you confessed to him and he didn’t accept you?”
“Goodness, what charm does he have? How could you like him since high school? I just don’t see it. To be honest, I don’t think much of him at all. Jiang Jiewen, you’re so amazing; how could you like someone like him? I really can’t believe it.”
“Yeah, Jiang Jiewen, what is this all about?”
A group of girls chimed in, each expressing disbelief and feeling that Jiang Jiewen deserved better.
“It’s just that I like him,” Jiang Jiewen said shyly, unsure how to explain.
“Class representative, your taste is really questionable! He doesn’t deserve you at all. He’s still riding an electric bike; what future does a man like that have?” Chen Chaoyue fumed. She had known that Jiang Jiewen was still single and was preparing to pursue her, only to find out that Jiang Jiewen had someone she liked—someone completely unremarkable. Chen Chaoyue couldn’t accept it.
