"Oh, don't call her over..." Zhou Rongli felt a bit regretful upon hearing Jiang Chen's words. After all, Lin Bingbing was such a beautiful star, yet Jiang Chen seemed indifferent.
"Mom, if you want her to come, I can have Bingbing visit often, even have her attend to you specifically. What do you think?" Jiang Chen smiled.
"That won't do. She's not my servant. I want her to come not to serve me," Zhou Rongli replied with a smile, casting a meaningful glance at her son.
*Cough cough*, "Xiao Chen, since you helped Bingbing break off the engagement, you should know her feelings. What are you planning to do?" Zhou Rongli's expression suddenly turned serious.
"We'll talk about it later. Matters of the heart are not what I pursue," Jiang Chen responded calmly.
"However, it seems several girls are quite taken with you. That's not good," Zhou Rongli remarked. Although Jiang Chen was not her biological son, Zhou Rongli had long regarded him as such and naturally hoped he would find a good girl. This didn't seem to be a concern anymore; there were beautiful women surrounding Jiang Chen, each more outstanding than the last.
Among so many flowers, it should have been easy to pick one. But each one was so vibrant that choosing became difficult.
"Mom, what's the big deal? My brother is so exceptional; if there weren't any girls interested in him, that would be strange! Brother, if it comes down to it, just marry them all! Let's not worry too much about conventions," Jiang Lu said with a wave of her hand, speaking boldly.
Jiang Lu's joke did not earn a reprimand from Zhou Rongli; instead, it prompted her to nod in agreement.
"I think that's a good idea. Since it's hard to choose, why not take them all?" Zhou Rongli said earnestly.
"Mom, what are you all thinking? There’s plenty of time ahead. It's New Year's; let's not discuss such matters," Jiang Chen quickly changed the subject.
"Alright then, let's drop it," Zhou Rongli laughed.
By five o'clock in the afternoon, the reunion dinner was ready, and everyone sat together to eat and drink. After the meal, they gathered around to watch the Spring Festival Gala. By ten o'clock, the family began heading to bed.
New Year's Eve passed just like that.
On the first day of the New Year, they started visiting relatives. According to tradition, on this day sons pay respects to their parents, so most families celebrate at home on the first day. Jiang Chen was no exception; he spent the first day at his godmother's house. It was just right for four people who had played cards all day long.
The second day was when daughters returned to their parents' homes. Since Jiang Lu was a daughter and not a daughter-in-law, she didn't have that situation. So on the second day, they would only visit Zhou Rongli's family.
Zhou Rongli's family background was impressive; they were from the prosperous Zhou family in Hangcheng. However, since marrying into the Jiang Bao family in An Province, she had lost contact with her family because they opposed her marriage to them. Ignoring their objections and insisting on marrying into the Jiang Bao family led to her being disowned by the Zhou family. For over twenty years, she had no communication with them.
Three years ago, when her daughter began studying at Capital City University and she had a godson like Jiang Chen, Zhou Rongli felt more confident and decided to return to the Zhou family in Hangcheng.
The Zhou family still held deep prejudices against her; even her biological father did not wish to acknowledge her as his daughter. However, her mother was very emotional upon seeing Zhou Rongli again. In recent years during New Year celebrations, Zhou Rongli would return to the Zhou family just to spend time with her mother; as for the other members of the Zhou family, she preferred not to engage with them too much.
Despite having been entangled in grievances with the Zhou family for over twenty years, Zhou Rongli no longer cared about those matters now.
