“Shuai Dong, what are you doing? Are you brain dead?” I walked over and playfully tapped his forehead with the back of my right hand. “Don’t touch me!” Shuai Dong immediately swatted my hand away and turned his back to me, walking briskly toward the teaching building without looking back. I felt confused and hurried to class. The lesson was quite frustrating; Xia Ying next to me was so indifferent, and my brother Shuai Dong was acting this way towards me. What was going on? Was I destined for bad luck this year? That didn’t make sense. It seemed I could only ask Shuai Dong at noon to get clarity. 0

After enduring a long morning, I returned from the gym, my mind elsewhere, and headed straight for Shuai Dong’s seat in the classroom. I wanted to see what was bothering him; it couldn’t be without reason. Could it be because of Situ Yanan? Yes, Shuai Dong had always liked Situ Yanan. Suddenly, it dawned on me—he was jealous because he saw me getting close to Situ Yanan! 0

When I arrived at the classroom, I walked over to Shuai Dong’s seat. Pang Hao and A Fei were standing next to him. When Pang Hao saw me, he said, “Hey, you came at the right time. Shuai Dong doesn’t know what’s got him all worked up again. A Fei and I tried calling him, but he just sulked with a long face. Look at him.” Just then, Shuai Dong suddenly stood up and said, “Jie, I want to talk to you. Let’s go to the playground.” He started walking out, leaving Pang Hao and the others stunned. Ding Fang and Gu Mei Jiao also approached us: “What’s going on with you two? Are you guys turning against each other like in a TV drama?” 0

“It’s nothing; we just want to have a heart-to-heart. Don’t worry about it; we’ll be back soon.” I smiled as I walked out. I stopped Pang Hao and A Fei, not wanting them to interfere in our matters. As we walked toward the playground, I felt much calmer knowing what was going on. 0

Upon reaching the playground, I saw that some snow still lingered at the edges of the large field. Shuai Dong stood at the end of the track with his hands in his pockets, facing away from me. It was quite a cool pose. “Dong Ge, I’m here!” I called out to his back. He didn’t move but slowly turned his head to glance at me before turning back again. “Come over here.” Wow! He really did seem like a big brother now. 0

I walked in front of him and looked at his expressionless face. “Bastard!” Shuai Dong shouted as he threw a punch at my face. The punch was powerful, as if he was releasing all his pent-up anger through it. I crouched down for a moment, my mind blank. Instinctively, I shook my head vigorously and slowly stood up again. “Do you know why I hit you?” Shuai Dong asked coldly. I touched my swollen cheek and replied, “Shuai Dong, if you hit me because of Situ Yanan, then I won’t fight back.” 0

Upon hearing this, Shuai Dong sneered, “So you feel guilty because you think you owe your buddy something.” “Shuai Dong, let me ask you this: why would I feel guilty? Is it because I'm in the wrong? Or is it because I owe you something regarding Shi Zhidong? It seems not.” I looked into Shuai Dong’s eyes as he slowly closed them and said, “Jie, why do you always go after the girls I like? From Wang Yaqian in Beijing to Situ Yanan, don’t you know that a friend’s wife should not be meddled with?” Wow! So now both Wang Yaqian and Situ Yanan were considered his "wives"? This was a bit extreme for Shuai Dong. 0

“Wake up! Neither Wang Yaqian nor Situ Yanan has any feelings for you; they like me! What can I do about that?” I shouted at him. But he remained unfazed: “Why do you have to entangle yourself with girls that my brother likes? Have you thought about how that makes me feel? Do you think you're being fair to me?” 0

“Forget it; I don’t want to explain anymore. Think whatever you want.” I knew he wouldn’t listen now, so there was no point in arguing further; I'd talk to him when he calmed down. With a stern expression, Shuai Dong said to me, “Fine, from now on, let’s cut ties completely; we have nothing more to do with each other!” Wow! He was serious! “Shuai Dong, are you really willing to lose a brother over a girl who doesn’t even like you?” I asked in disbelief. 0

He replied slowly, “A true brother wouldn’t treat me like this.” With that, he turned and walked away. I stood there frozen, feeling as if this were all a dream. Not only had I lost my beloved Xia Ying, but now I'd also lost my good brother Shuai Dong. My fists clenched tightly as frustration bubbled inside me—why was everything so chaotic? At just eighteen years old, why did I have to endure such setbacks and suffering? Misunderstandings—everything was just misunderstandings! 0

When I returned to the classroom and stepped inside, both Pang Hao and A Fei surrounded me immediately. A Fei quickly asked, “What happened? When Shuai Dong came back earlier, his face looked as black as a pot bottom! What’s going on… what happened to your face?” He noticed my slightly swollen cheek just then. 0

Upon hearing this, Pang Hao also saw my injury and asked, “Did Shuai Dong do this?” After hearing that question, I fell silent and quietly walked toward my seat. Behind me, I heard A Fei questioning Shuai Dong: “What’s wrong with you?! You haven’t learned anything else but how to hit your own brother?” Then I heard Shuai Dong, still very calm, say: “Remember this: from now on, Xiang Jie is no longer my brother; don’t ask why—I don’t want to say more.” 0

Upon hearing this, I couldn’t help but stop in my tracks; both Pang Hao and A Fei gasped in shock. Even all the classmates looked at Shuai Dong in disbelief; they found this news too sudden and couldn’t react in time. 0
