"Haha, since you offer it so kindly, Zeng Lao, I won’t refuse. I hope there truly is a surprise within that landscape," Jiang Chen replied, no longer insisting on declining the gift.
Meanwhile, in a nearby private room, Yue Hui, Zhou Rongli, and others sat down, chatting as they awaited the start of the auction.
" Zhou Rong Li, do you think Jiang Chen really intends to deal with your elder brother?" Zhou Duanmei asked under the guidance of the elderly lady.
"I can’t say for sure. Xiao Chen is just my godson, and he has his own principles. I won’t interfere," Zhou Rongli replied with a slight smile.
"Given Jiang Chen's temperament, I believe what he said yesterday was genuine. He won’t let your brother off easily. Zhou Rong Li, although your brother is in the wrong, we are still blood relatives. You should persuade Jiang Chen to let it go," Zhou Duanmei continued under the elderly lady’s gaze.
Zhou Rongli smiled and looked at the elderly lady. "Mom, if you have something to say, just say it directly. There’s no need for my sister to speak on your behalf. I understand your concerns, but whatever happens to my brother is his own doing. Yes, we share blood ties, but sometimes a cold relationship is better left untouched."
These family matters had entangled Zhou Rongli for nearly thirty years. He was truly weary and no longer wished to be involved; it was better to leave it to his godson to handle. Although the methods might be somewhat harsh, they were often the best way to resolve persistent issues.
" Zhou Rong Li, I know your brother's actions have hurt you deeply, but he has been misled. After all, he is still the head of our Zhou family. If anything were to happen to your brother now, it would have a tremendous impact on us," the elderly lady said. Earlier she had worried about Zhou Rongli’s family; now that the situation was clearer, her concern shifted to Zhou Pingyong and others.
"Mom, Jiang Chen knows what he’s doing. And frankly speaking, our Zhou family has stagnated over these years largely due to my brother's obstinacy. He sees me as an enemy and refuses any connection with me; why should I care about him?" Zhou Rongli replied calmly.
"What if your brother apologizes to you this time?" the elderly lady asked.
For her, even irreconcilable family conflicts were still matters of flesh and blood; she couldn’t simply ignore them.
"Even if he apologizes, it would be insincere—an apology like that isn’t worth having," Zhou Rongli said without a hint of softening in his tone.
The elderly lady sighed, unsure of what to do. A harmonious family leads to prosperity; without harmony at home, she could never truly feel at ease.
Yue Hui watched from the side, her mind racing. She was perceptive and understood that this was Mr. Jiang's family matter and she shouldn’t interfere. However, family issues were more complicated than other matters; resolving them could be quite troublesome. Mr. Jiang must also find such situations distressing. After careful consideration, Yue Hui felt she should help alleviate Mr. Jiang's worries.
