A commotion unexpectedly erupted from downstairs, prompting the sister-in-law to quickly stand up and wipe her mouth. "Oh no, my husband is back," she exclaimed. With a playful expression of apology thrown at Guan Ping, she waddled out, sticking out her tongue and making a cute face before closing the door behind her.
Guan Ping felt utterly helpless, having been abandoned at such critical moments twice in a row. Stiffening with frustration, he paced back and forth in the room, his pent-up emotions searching for an outlet. Was he really going to resort to self-relief again? No way! He marched into the bathroom, stripped off all his clothes, and blasted himself with cold water. Damn Yu Qing! That little minx would definitely make a scene when she returned.
After showering, he felt somewhat calmer. Since he had to wait anyway, he turned on the air conditioning, grabbed a small blanket, and lay quietly on the bed. In the stillness of the room, with the cool breeze flowing and the soft bed beneath him, Guan Ping didn’t fall asleep but felt his arousal finally soften.
Not long after, a chattering group of girls' voices echoed from the staircase. Guan Ping was still trying to grasp the situation when he heard Yu Qing outside saying, "This is my room."
Yu Qing was bringing people in?!
Panicking, Guan Ping kicked off the blanket but realized it wouldn’t cover him completely. He had no choice but to cover himself from the chest down while leaving his head and shoulders exposed, closing his eyes to feign sleep.
The door creaked open, and three or four girls who had been laughing and chatting suddenly fell silent upon seeing a man asleep on the bed.
"Yu Qing, is that your brother?" someone whispered.
"No... that's... um... that’s my... uh..." Yu Qing stammered.
The others pursed their lips in an exaggerated manner as if to say "understand," causing Yu Qing's face to flush red. She stepped into the room first, followed by the others. Guan Ping squinted his eyes to sneak a glance; besides Yu Qing, there were three other girls whose faces were still somewhat unclear in his hazy vision.
"Is it okay?" someone asked, clearly referring to whether Guan Ping's presence was an issue.
Yu Qing replied that it was fine, completely unaware that Guan Ping was under the blanket without a stitch on. To avoid trouble, he pretended to snore.
A few girls settled onto chairs while others perched on the edge of the bed and began chatting. From their conversation, Guan Ping learned they were Yu Qing's high school classmates. Yu Qing had invited them over for a welcome dinner since they had come from Yangcheng and couldn't find a place; she had just gone out to bring them in.
Yu Qing brought over some fruit and urged her classmates to eat while poor Guan Ping had no choice but to play dead on the side. Once the girls started talking, it was like a flock of sparrows chattering away without pause. Yu Qing then presented a large stack of photo albums, and everyone eagerly flipped through them, reminiscing about their high school days with many pictures from that time as well as recent ones of Yu Qing. They laughed and pointed at each other joyfully.
Suddenly, the sister-in-law called from outside the door: "Xiao Qing, phone!"
Another phone call! Yu Qing opened the door to grab the receiver and immediately brightened up upon hearing who was on the other end. "Oh, you all made it... Yes... Yes... I’ll go pick you up..."
Turning back to her friends, she said, "They’re here! Wait here for a moment; I’ll go get them."
Everyone agreed enthusiastically as Yu Qing turned to help her sister-in-law downstairs. Guan Ping sighed inwardly; when would he finally get dressed?
