The shadow vanished into the night, and Su Mu did not pursue. He knew that even if he caught up, he might not be able to capture him, and it could instead alert the snake in the grass. He picked up the dagger that had fallen to the ground and examined it closely. The dagger's design was ancient, its blade glinting coldly, clearly a sharp weapon.
Su Mu carefully stowed the dagger away and began to search the temple meticulously. He hoped to find some clues about the identity of the shadow or discover the purpose of his visit.
He inspected every corner of the temple, even checking behind the dilapidated Buddha statues. However, he found nothing. The temple was empty, with only crumbling walls and ancient talismans remaining.
A wave of disappointment washed over Su Mu. The appearance and disappearance of the shadow felt like a riddle that eluded him. He did not know who the shadow was or what he sought in this place.
Could it be that the shadow merely passed by by chance? Su Mu shook his head; he did not believe in such coincidences. The divination indicated that important clues were hidden here, and the shadow's appearance only reinforced that notion.
He glanced again at the talismans on the wall, and suddenly a thought struck him. He took out his phone and enlarged the photos of the talismans he had taken earlier, scrutinizing every detail.
Suddenly, he noticed a detail he had previously overlooked. In the corner of one talisman was a small mark, resembling some kind of special symbol. Su Mu's heart stirred; he felt this symbol might be key to unraveling the mystery.
He committed this symbol to memory and then left the temple. He knew he had to decipher its meaning quickly in order to uncover the truth and thwart the Xuanming Sect's conspiracy. As night deepened, Qingyun Town was shrouded in an air of mystery...
Upon returning home, Su Mu immediately began researching that mysterious symbol. He imported the photos from his phone onto his computer, enlarging them to their maximum size and examining every detail closely.
The symbol appeared ancient, resembling some form of pictograph or perhaps a totem. Su Mu sifted through numerous ancient texts and materials but could not find any matching patterns.
Had he made a mistake? Doubt crept into Su Mu's mind. Perhaps this symbol held no special significance at all; it might just be an ordinary mark on the wall.
Just as he was about to give up, he suddenly remembered an ancient book his grandfather had brought back—"The Compendium of Talismans." It contained various talismans and symbols along with their meanings and uses.
He immediately took out the "Compendium of Talismans" and began to flip through the pages one by one. Time passed slowly, and beads of sweat formed on his forehead.
Finally, in an inconspicuous corner, he found a symbol that looked almost identical to the one in the photograph!
A surge of joy filled him as he quickly read the explanation about this symbol.
According to ancient texts, this symbol represented a "sacrificial altar." The location of the altar was said to be hidden in an even more secretive place...
At this point, he felt a jolt in his heart. He finally understood the purpose of the shadow's visit to the temple! They were definitely searching for the location of the altar!
And this altar was likely the site where the Xuanming Sect conducted some kind of evil ritual!
Realizing the gravity of the situation, he knew he had to find the location of the altar as soon as possible to thwart the Xuanming Sect's conspiracy!
