"Well, for Yulin, let them come for training," Teacher Qiu said, clenching his fist. It was clear that this decision came after a significant internal struggle. I felt particularly excited after hearing this; now it was just a matter of convincing Kobe and Zhou Wenming. After school, I rushed to the hospital where A Fei was staying. When I arrived at the bedside, A Fei was lying there reading a book. "Hey, A Fei, I'm here to see you!" I couldn't hide my excitement. A Fei remained calm and didn't even look up: "Why are you so happy? Is it because I can't play basketball anymore, so you're gloating?" A Fei seemed a bit extreme in his mood. I sat down and said to him, "Stop with the nonsense. By the way, how are Kobe and Zhou Wenming from Thirteen Middle School doing?" After thinking for a moment, A Fei replied, "Are they from the Thirteen Middle School that defeated us last year? Their skills are certainly outstanding. I smiled and shared with A Fei what had happened to Kobe and the others. Upon hearing it, A Fei sighed in regret; it really was a case of talent being overlooked. "I've already suggested to Teacher Qiu that Kobe and Zhou Wenming join our team, and he agreed," I told A Fei. His eyes widened in surprise: "Really? How could Teacher Qiu agree? That's fantastic! With them, Yulin can soar again!" I didn't expect A Fei to be this happy. After returning home, I felt anxious; I had talked to Teacher Qiu, but if Kobe and Zhou Wenming didn't come, I'd be in big trouble. I decided to go back to where we had walked yesterday; they should give me a response.
That evening, I sat on the bench again. "Jie, we’re here." After what felt like an eternity, I finally heard that familiar voice—it was them! They sat down next to me. Kobe: "Jie, we talked to our parents about transferring schools, but they were all against it..." As he spoke, his voice grew quieter, and I suddenly felt dizzy—this was bad!
Zhou Wenming continued from where Kobe left off: "But... after a night of persuasion, we finally convinced our parents. We’ve completed the transfer procedures today and will report to Yulin tomorrow. Will you welcome us?" "Of course! You’ll definitely receive a warm welcome! I'm so excited! After hearing this, I told him about it while Ouyang just smiled without saying anything. Soon after, all the other members of the team arrived. When Teacher Qiu came in, he said to us: "Team members, tomorrow we will have our Quarterfinals. Today I have good news for everyone..."
"We're getting new reinforcements!" We interrupted before he could finish his sentence. Teacher Qiu laughed: "Looks like everyone knows already! That's right; today we will welcome two new team members: third-year students Kobe and Zhou Wenming. Let's give them a round of applause." As soon as he finished speaking, Kobe and Zhou Wenming walked out. We all excitedly applauded; they were clearly moved by our enthusiasm as both joined in clapping their hands together—two great warriors had finally arrived.
Thus began an intense training session for me. Both Kobe and Zhou Wenming adapted quickly; after just two classes of training together, they gradually started integrating into our tactical system. After school that evening, I pulled them out of the gate: "Comrades, how do you find our classmates at Yulin? Aren't they enthusiastic?" They exchanged glances and smiled at each other. After they left, Pang Hao approached me while looking at their backs: "How did these two really end up at our school? Jie, did you go three times to persuade them?" From two meters away behind him stood Shuai Dong without coming closer. I deliberately laughed loudly at Pang Hao: "Alright then! Let's go visit A Fei!"
The next morning marked our away game for the Round of 16 against the second-place team from Group A—Yuhai High School. This time we had home-court advantage first before heading out as guests; thus we needed to go play at the away venue first—at the Domain Sea. On the bus ride over, several of us were discussing something while sitting together; meanwhile,Kobe and Zhou Wenming sat calmly like mountains beside us while Ouyang gazed out at the scenery outside and Teacher Qiu discussed strategies with the lead teacher.
I sat in a corner by the window observing everything around me when suddenly it struck me that something was missing—yes! There wasn't an empty seat occupied by an absent friend like A Fei, who would usually pull out his pendant from around his neck and gaze at it with affection—a dream we were here to fulfill together."
