After having breakfast, I said I wanted to go out for a walk to help with digestion. Zhang Hao and Lin Mengyi exchanged a glance, a hint of barely perceptible joy flashing in their eyes.
"Are you going alone?" Zhang Hao asked, feigning concern. "It's not very safe outside..."
"I'll just stroll around nearby; I won't go far," I replied, lowering my head to adjust my clothes and avoiding his probing gaze.
Lin Mengyi eagerly interjected, "Then you should go quickly; it's good to clear your mind. Zhang Hao and I have some things to discuss."
"What things?" I asked deliberately.
"Just... how to help you stock up on supplies," she stammered, a suspicious blush creeping onto her face.
I suppressed a chuckle and pretended to be innocent, nodding. "Alright then, I'll head out first."
Once outside, I lingered downstairs for a moment, ensuring they wouldn't follow me. Then I quickly made my way toward the abandoned warehouse district in the west area.
This was a treasure trove I had stumbled upon in my previous life after the apocalypse began—a storage area that was about to be demolished. The streets were sparsely populated, and after navigating through overgrown paths, I found the inconspicuous metal shed.
The lock was rusty and broke off easily with a gentle twist. Pushing the door open, a musty smell hit me, but my eyes brightened at the sight inside.
Shelves were neatly stocked with various medicines and canned goods; although many were nearing expiration, these were lifesaving items in the apocalypse. I quickly stored the supplies into my space and suddenly felt warmth radiating from my left arm.
Looking down, I saw silver runes emitting a faint glow. It seemed that this batch of supplies had caused a slight upgrade in my space, increasing its capacity significantly.
After gathering all usable supplies, I clapped my hands in satisfaction. Just as I was about to leave, a commotion erupted in the distance.
"Kid, if you don't want to die, hand over the money!"
I turned towards the voice and saw a group of thugs surrounding a young man. He looked to be in his early twenties, wearing glasses and tightly clutching a backpack.
I recognized him; his name was Li Hu, an important member of a small base after the apocalypse. I had briefly stayed at his base in my previous life, and I never expected to run into him today.
Raising my hand, I tested my recently upgraded spatial ability. An invisible shockwave surged from my palm. I aimed it at the ground beneath the thugs' feet and swung my hand forcefully.
"Boom!"
The stones on the ground suddenly exploded, startling the thugs into a frantic scramble to escape.
"Thank you for saving me," Li Hu said as he approached, his expression sincere. "My name is Li Hu, and I don't know how to repay you."
"It was just a small effort," I replied with a faint smile. "My name is Su Qing; just remember it."
By the time I returned home, it was already afternoon.
As I pushed open the door, a hint of an ambiguous atmosphere lingered in the air. Lin Mengyi was busy in the kitchen while Zhang Hao sat on the sofa, engrossed in his phone; both appeared completely unfazed.
"Back from your walk?" Lin Mengyi peeked out to ask.
I smiled and nodded, "Yes, the weather is nice today."
After dinner, I sat on the sofa, deliberately putting on a heavy-hearted expression.
"What's wrong?" Zhang Hao asked, putting down his phone and feigning concern.
I sighed, "Actually... there’s something I’ve been keeping from you all."
Lin Mengyi immediately walked out of the kitchen, "What is it?"
"My parents left me some money before they passed away..."
I lowered my head, my voice trembling slightly, "It's about two million."
"Wow? That much?"
Lin Mengyi exclaimed, then quickly realized her reaction was too strong and tried to cover it up, "I mean... why didn’t you say anything sooner?"
Zhang Hao straightened up, "Yeah, with such a large amount, you should have discussed it with us."
I feigned a sense of grievance, "I was planning to tell you after we got married. But lately, there have been so many strange news reports on TV... I just don’t feel secure."
Zhang Hao cleared his throat, adopting a serious expression, "Su Qing, you’ve noticed that things are off. Although everything seems calm on the surface, I’ve heard from inside sources that something big is about to happen."
"What big thing?"
I frowned and asked.
"The apocalypse is coming."
Lin Mengyi picked up the thread, her tone tense, "A disaster will soon break out, and when that happens, money will be worthless. While we can still buy things, we need to quickly convert the money into supplies."
I smirked internally but feigned panic on the outside, "Really? What should we do?"
"Withdraw the money and convert it all into supplies."
Zhang Hao's gaze was intense, "Food, water, medicine, weapons—these are what truly hold value."
I hesitated for a moment before nodding, "Alright... but I want to go myself; after all, this is everything my parents left me."
"Of course, of course."
Lin Mengyi nodded quickly, "Tomorrow we’ll go to the bank to withdraw the money and then head to that supply point we talked about. There won’t be any problems."
"Sounds good..."
I put on a "touched" smile. "I'm so glad to have you both."
Later that night, after they had all gone to sleep, I quietly got up and opened my space to check the supplies.
Inside the space were neatly arranged essential items for the apocalypse—everything I had secretly collected over time.
Looking at the calendar on my phone, I silently counted down in my heart: two more days.
