Medical supplies are crucial for survival in the apocalypse. Although I have already stocked up quite a bit in my space ring, the consumption is accelerating with the expansion of our team.
“Li Hu, come with me for a moment.” I checked my ammunition and gear. “Let’s head to that pharmacy supermarket on the outskirts of the city; there should still be some supplies we can gather.”
Li Hu immediately set down what he was doing and picked up the handgun I had given him. “Okay, Sister Su.”
He’s learning quickly. Just a week ago, he could barely hold a gun steady, and now he can load it smoothly.
We moved swiftly along the path, silently dispatching the zombies we encountered along the way. Li Hu's movements became increasingly proficient; although he still couldn't match my skills, he was far stronger than an average person.
“There’s the supermarket up ahead.” I raised my binoculars to survey the area. “It looks like it has already been looted, but there might still be something left in the underground storage.”
The supermarket's glass was shattered, and shelves lay toppled in disarray. We cautiously stepped into the ruins, alert for any lurking zombies.
“Sister Su, over here!” Li Hu pointed to the entrance of the underground storage, where the iron door had been pried open but didn’t seem completely emptied.
As I was about to approach, I suddenly heard footsteps coming from deep within the storage. I immediately raised my gun and signaled for Li Hu to take cover.
“Please, just stop and rest for a moment... I... I can’t move anymore...”
A weak female voice echoed, causing my blood to run cold. It was Lin Mengyi!
“Shut up! Do you think I’m not tired?” A man’s irritable voice made my grip on the gun tighten until my fingers turned white.
I slowly stood up and walked towards the source of the sound with light, steady steps.
Through the gaps in the shelves, I saw two disheveled figures—it was Zhang Hao and Lin Mengyi. They looked far worse than I remembered. Zhang Hao's right arm was bent at an unnatural angle, clearly broken, his clothes torn, and his face smeared with dirt and blood. Lin Mengyi was even more unrecognizable; her hair was a tangled mess, her eyes vacant and numb, and her clothes had turned into filthy rags.
I sneered as I stepped out from my hiding place, casually pointing my gun at the ground.
"Long time no see."
A myriad of expressions flashed across Zhang Hao and Lin Mengyi's faces—shock, fear, and deep-seated resentment. Especially when they saw me unharmed and accompanied by allies, the jealousy and hatred almost spilled from their eyes.
"Su... Su Qing?" Zhang Hao's voice trembled slightly, then suddenly he wore a heartfelt smile. "Oh my God, it really is you! I've been looking for you for so long!"
He took a step closer to me, his right hand reaching out despite the pain from his broken bone.
"Darling, there's been a misunderstanding; I've been wanting to explain..."
"Don't come any closer."
I said coldly, raising the gun slightly.
At that moment, Lin Mengyi suddenly knelt down, tears streaming down her face like broken pearls. "Qing Qing, please save us! This place is too terrifying... We... we know we were wrong!"
A flicker of smugness crossed Zhang Hao's eyes. "Qing Qing, I know you might still be angry, but now I have the ability to protect you!"
He proudly raised his intact left hand; suddenly, his muscles bulged, faint blue patterns appearing on his arm.
"Protect me?"
I couldn't help but let out a derisive laugh, but my expression turned icy in an instant as I aimed the gun directly at his forehead. "Have you forgotten that just two nights ago, you wanted me dead?"
Zhang Hao's face changed dramatically, fear flashing in his eyes.
"Qing Qing, I..."
"Get lost or die."
I enunciated each word with deadly intent in my voice. "You have three seconds."
