The younger generation was not foolish; they immediately began to doubt their grandfather's earlier statement that he and Uncle Jiang were close friends. However, they did not dare to ask too many questions and instead curiously observed the young Uncle Jiang.
"Hello, everyone," Jiang Chen smiled in response, taking the opportunity to assess Zeng Xianyi's grandchildren. If any of them were suitable, he wouldn't mind offering some guidance. Unfortunately, they were all rather ordinary, failing to impress Jiang Chen. At this moment, if he were to take on a disciple, his standards would be even stricter. On Earth, someone who could catch Jiang Chen's eye would be a rare find—at least one in a million.
While there were indeed talented individuals on Earth, Jiang Chen did not have the time to sift through them one by one. It depended on his luck and the fate of those with cultivation talent. If destiny allowed, they could naturally become his disciples, just like Ye Ming. Ye Ming's Spirit Serpent Body was a one-in-a-million talent; her encounter with Jiang Chen was clearly fated.
Seeing Jiang Chen examining his grandchildren, Zeng Xianyi felt a bit anxious. After ten seconds, when Jiang Chen withdrew his gaze, Zeng Xianyi hesitated before inviting him into the house.
Inside, the heated floor made the room warm and cozy. Zeng Xianyi and Jiang Chen sat down at the tea table while Qin Xiaoya and Zeng Xianyi's grandchildren stood respectfully behind them.
As Zeng Xianyi brewed tea, he asked, "Mr. Jiang, what do you think of these children? Are any of them suitable?"
"That depends on Ling Mingzi's choice; I shouldn't interfere," Jiang Chen replied with a faint smile.
Upon hearing Jiang Chen's somewhat indirect response, Zeng Xianyi felt his heart sink. If Jiang Chen found someone suitable, then Ling Mingzi would surely agree as well. The fact that Jiang Chen responded this way suggested that he had not found anyone appealing.
However, there was still hope; if Jiang Chen did not find anyone suitable, it was possible that Ling Mingzi might see potential in them.
"Uh, then let Master Ling Mingzi choose. I wonder how he will decide?" Zeng Xianyi said.
Jiang Chen smiled lightly and produced a picture of a mountain temple as if performing a magic trick.
"Zeng Lao, let them gaze at this painting for ten seconds in order of age. If Ling Mingzi has someone in mind, there will naturally be a sign," Jiang Chen instructed.
"You all go to the living room and enter the tea room one by one according to your age for the test," Zeng Xianyi said.
Zeng Wenwen and the others were confused and had no idea what was happening. Wasn't it said that the master would take on disciples? Why hadn’t they seen the master but were instead asked to look at a painting? Was this some sort of method for selecting disciples through observation?
This method of choosing disciples was indeed strange.
Despite their myriad questions, Zeng Wenwen and the others wisely refrained from asking further since it was against family rules to speak out in front of outsiders.
Zeng Xianyi had achieved considerable success in educating his descendants; at least within the family, there were no idle wastrels. Each person had made something of themselves and shone in their respective fields.
In fact, most children from prominent families were quite capable. They started with high advantages and received quality education from a young age. In such an environment, it would be rare for someone to be foolish; they all managed to achieve something significant. Of course, in a large family, there could be all sorts of characters. Some descendants became blinded by arrogance and pride, losing sight of others around them. Such individuals became parasites within their families—while one or two might not bring down a family structure, an abundance of them could gnaw away at it until it became shaky and vulnerable.
