"Strange." Mo Wen shook his head. No matter how he guessed, this was an unusual place, and caution was essential. Giving up was certainly not an option; even if what lay ahead was not the Fire Lotus, it still held value.
"Boss, we're almost there! The scent is getting stronger!" A voice came from the vigilant Xiao Hei at the bow of the boat. After a long period of heightened alertness, even he was feeling the strain. With no immediate danger in sight, Mo Wen decided to take a break and let Xiao Hei keep watch.
"Hmm?!" Releasing his senses, Mo Wen detected that what Xiao Hei mentioned was about twenty miles away. There, his perception was blocked. From what he knew and Elder Zhu's description, this did not seem to be the Fire Lotus.
"You rest for a moment; let's go take a look." He narrowed his Divine Perception to a hundred-zhang radius and steered the boat toward their destination.
As he gazed at the sea ahead, Mo Wen halted the boat. Before him lay a stretch of lava about two miles wide, continuously churning. Clearly, the temperature inside was much higher than outside. However, all he could see was a circle of boiling lava, surrounded by mist that obscured any view of what lay within. His senses were cut off, and visibility was poor.
"Xiao Hei, see what's over there." He called to Xiao Hei, who had dozed off beside him, pointing toward the mist.
"Water! Boss, it's water! I can sense its presence!" Xiao Hei suddenly opened his eyes and jumped up excitedly. "And there’s something useful for me inside—pure Fire Power!"
"Let's go check it out. For safety's sake, watch my signals." Hearing that there was water and something useful for Xiao Hei inside, Mo Wen decided to investigate. It wouldn't be in line with his style to ignore it now that they were so close. He maneuvered the boat and lifted the largest confusion pearl from the cabin. In previous battles against Demon Beasts, the confusion pearl had proven highly effective; if there were indeed a Demon Beast ahead, it would likely be one with considerable intelligence, making smaller pearls ineffective.
"These boiling lava pools contain rich fire essence!" Xiao Hei's eyes sparkled as he gazed at the bubbling lava, eager to dive in and absorb it immediately.
"Don't rush! Let's assess the situation first." Mo Wen pulled Xiao Hei back and continued forward through the boiling lava into the mist.
"Not good! Seal the Divine Sea!" A fierce divine power attack surged into his Divine Sea. The Locking God Technique activated as Mo Wen shouted and sealed his Divine Sea. He threw out the confusion pearl; its chaotic power erupted. Glancing at Xiao Hei beside him and relieved to see he was unharmed, Mo Wen signaled him with a gesture before diving down swiftly—he needed to resolve this battle quickly within his limits.
Ahead, the confusion pearl descended toward the seabed while Mo Wen followed closely behind. Channeling his Kung Fu, he took a quick glance at the ocean floor and felt a chill run down his spine—there were massive skeletons piled like mountains. Atop one of these skeletal hills was an opening dozens of zhang wide that continuously spewed forth liquid resembling water, interspersed with dense divine power attacks. Yet under the influence of the confusion power, only a few of these attacks reached his Divine Sea before being neutralized by his sealing technique.
Seeing this scene before him, Mo Wen understood: it was a trap. He and Xiao Hei were lured here just like those who belonged to the skeletal mountain. The aura they sensed was merely bait. The only difference was that he intended to confront this bait's master and eliminate it.
