"Boss, you’ve really kicked the bucket this time. You’ve lost your breath completely. What am I supposed to do now? What about our feast?" Xiao Hei stood at the bow of the boat, wailing internally. The tears in his eyes evaporated before they could fall due to the intense heat. The once-boiling Lava had vanished, taking with it the chaotic energy, the mist within the Lava, and the presence of Boss Mo.
It had been over half a day since Mo Wen jumped into the Lava. Despite his relentless training, he could only withstand the effects of the chaotic pearl for about an hour at such close proximity. Following Mo Wen's instructions before he descended, Xiao Hei quickly steered the boat away from the fog-covered area and retreated to the outer circle of boiling Lava. As soon as he emerged, he noticed that the mist within the circle was rapidly contracting toward the seabed, followed by the boiling Lava also beginning to shrink. Along with it came waves of divine power attacks, but thanks to his master’s protective techniques, he was able to fend off each assault.
For the next hour, massive waves rolled across the sea, accompanied by piercing cries and chaotic divine power strikes. As time passed, the attacks gradually diminished, and the cries became faint until they finally ceased. Not long after the attacks stopped, the chaotic energy disappeared as well. Xiao Hei had expected Mo Wen to emerge but waited for a long time without seeing his boss's figure. Attempts to send a message received no response; eventually, even his presence faded away. It wasn't until the sea calmed that Xiao Hei decided to return to where Mo Wen had jumped.
"Boss, we’ve known each other for so many years. Although I’ve spent a long time sleeping, you were the one who saved me from death’s door. Now that you’re gone, as your brother, I should accompany you on this journey. But my master’s last wish binds me; I can’t join you just yet. You gave me such wonderful stories and delicious feasts, yet now I can do nothing but offer my fur as a tribute to your spirit in heaven." As he thought of this sorrowful moment, a soft wail escaped his mouth. Though he didn’t fully understand human expressions, Xiao Hei was genuinely heartbroken. He extended a claw and pulled out a few strands of fur from his body, tossing them into the Lava while hanging his head in a daze.
With his boss gone, he felt lost about what to do next. He had only obtained part of his master’s legacy and felt weak in this dangerous place where all Demon Beasts were eager to devour him. Surviving seemed impossible.
"Boss, what should I do?" Looking at the Lava, Xiao Hei hoped Boss Mo could provide him with an answer, but it was clear that Boss Mo could no longer respond.
"Come down!" Just as Xiao Hei was about to turn and leave on his boat, he heard Mo Wen's voice echoing in his mind.
"Boss! Is that you? Have you come back? Do you have any unfinished business?" Xiao Hei spun around on deck, searching for Boss Mo's presence but only saw Lava all around him. Surely he was just imagining things out of longing for Boss Mo; disappointment washed over him as he lowered his head.
"Come down!" The voice echoed again in his mind. This time he merely twitched his ears without any further movement—this must be an illusion.
"If you don’t come down soon, your fire essence will dissipate!" Sensing that Xiao Hei remained still, Mo Wen sent another message. He had no strength left to move but could still communicate with Xiao Hei through thought. Little did he know that this fellow believed him to be dead and was grieving deeply.
