“Boss! You’re not dead!” Hearing this, Xiao Hei jolted awake and dove into the sea, swimming downstream while sending a message to Mo Wen.
“If you don’t come down soon, I’m going to die!” Mo Wen was utterly exhausted, barely able to muster the strength to communicate.
The beast bone volcano at the seabed had been flattened in the battle, with skeletons scattered across the ocean floor for miles. The bones lay like white wood covering the ground, mingling with the fiery red and viscous lava, resembling a skinned and bloodied Demon Beast lying there. The intense heat of the lava could not counteract the cold emanating from within. Xiao Hei shivered; he had seen many skeletons before in Boss Mo’s little world, but they were all intact and not so starkly white. The skeletons here were on an entirely different level. Had Boss killed so many Demon Beasts here? That meant he must have sustained serious injuries. With this thought, Xiao Hei swam faster toward Mo Wen’s location. The original beast bone volcano's mouth was now covered by a light shield, through which he could see a cave inside. Mo Wen lay at the cave's entrance.
“Boss! It’s great that you’re not dead!” Passing through the light shield, he rushed to Mo Wen’s side and collapsed onto his chest.
“Cough! Hurry up and collect the fire essence; I need to rest for a bit!” After coughing twice, Mo Wen found himself too weak to communicate further and could only instruct Xiao Hei.
“What about you?” Hearing the cough, Xiao Hei quickly jumped down, looking at Mo Wen lying on the ground.
“I’m fine; I just need to rest for a while. You need to hurry; we can talk later.” He patted Xiao Hei’s head, urging him to go quickly.
“Okay, I’ll go! I’ll come back to check on you later!” Xiao Hei looked back at Mo Wen with concern; he knew he had to go as instructed, but after using his skills to check on Mo Wen’s condition earlier, it seemed dire, though he was recovering quickly.
“Go!” Mo Wen waved his hand, and finally, Xiao Hei’s figure disappeared from the cave entrance.
“Wow!” A mouthful of blood that he had been holding back burst forth; fearing that Xiao Hei would worry, he had suppressed it until now. Spitting out the clotted blood made him feel much better. He shifted his body next to a rock and leaned against it while taking out a few pills from his storage bag and swallowing them. A cool sensation spread down his throat and throughout his body as he closed his eyes to begin healing his injuries.
This was the most severe injury he had sustained since entering the Lava Sea—he felt as if he had nearly lost half of his life—but it was unavoidable; it was either him or them. Following the Chaos Pearl, he descended into the mountain's mouth only to discover that whatever attacked him was hiding underground; this mountain opening was merely where it sprayed food remnants. Analyzing it now, it seemed that this creature had been here from the start and couldn’t move; the fire essence on the ocean surface and that watery aura were merely bait to lure batches of Demon Beasts in, waiting for them—just like himself and Xiao Hei—to enter its hunting ground before launching an attack and killing any prey that ventured inside.
What truly puzzled Mo Wen wasn’t its hunting method but its attack style. The combination of Law of Power and divine power made its attacks chaotic despite the interference from the Chaos Pearl; still, it was incredibly taxing to deal with. Rather than saying he killed it, it felt more accurate to say it had killed itself because throughout the entire process, he hadn’t even seen what it looked like. The density of its attacks caught him off guard; he had been on constant defense without managing to launch effective counterattacks.
