"What exactly is this thing? There's not even a bit of meat on it," Xiao Hei said, looking at the empty cavity with disappointment, though his eyes sparkled with excitement. The essence of fire was far purer than the Fire Spirit Crystal.
"Based on my years of experience wandering the world, this should be a Chimera," Mo Wen replied. Though Chimeras were typically associated with darkness, there were exceptions. While researching in Huo Lou, he had come across a record about a special type of Chimera. At the time, he thought it impossible for a Chimera to exist in the Lava Sea, so he dismissed it. But now, he realized he had been overly naive.
"A Chimera? What kind of Chimera?" Xiao Hei asked.
"The legendary Lava Spirit."
"A Chimera is simply terrifying! But how fascinating that such a creature exists in this world," Xiao Hei exclaimed, intrigued yet somewhat fearful. After all, Chimeras had notoriously unpredictable attacks. Fortunately, with Boss Mo by his side, he felt reassured; having such a timid leader made him less afraid of the Chimera.
After dealing with the Lava Spirit, the two returned to their routine of hunting Demon Beasts and consuming them. This lifestyle made Mo Wen feel grounded; perhaps this was how life in the Lava Sea was meant to be. Xiao Hei contentedly played the role of bait and glutton, learning about the world's common knowledge from Mo Wen.
"Yet even now, people still haven't figured out how Chimeras are produced," Xiao Hei insisted throughout their journey, eager for Mo Wen to share more about Chimeras. Mo Wen thought it beneficial for Xiao Hei to know more about them. However, due to Xiao Hei's irresistible scent attracting Demon Beasts every so often, they found themselves in battle almost daily. Mo Wen could only share snippets of information while on the move; most of what he knew came from Old Lu. After several encounters with Chimeras since leaving Cloud Mist Forest, he had gained deeper insights into them—experience truly was the best teacher.
The liquid suspended in the cavern was the divine essence of the Lava Spirit. The once chaotic essence surrounding them had become remarkably pure under the scorching influence of fire. After absorbing that divine liquid, Mo Wen's Realm reached the late stage of Concentration. If he focused solely on cultivating Concentration, his resources could easily create multiple Ning Shen Realms. However, his Divine Sea still housed a "glutton," and unsurprisingly, most of the divine liquid absorbed went to nourish the central divine tree in his Divine Sea. After this absorption, what had originally been a seedling with two leaves now boasted six leaves. According to Old Qilin's saying, "Nine leaves form a branch; one branch represents one stage." This seedling should now be at the mid-stage of the first tier, just one step away from advancing further. When it reached nine leaves, it would sprout a new branch. Yet Old Qilin admitted no one knew how many branches this divine tree would eventually grow. Considering it had taken so much divine liquid just to reach six leaves made Mo Wen's heart sink.
After absorbing most of the fire essence, Xiao Hei showed no visible changes. According to him, he was accumulating energy for his next slumber. The cultivation method of Divine Beasts differed greatly from other creatures; they would first absorb energy and store it within their bodies until they reached a certain threshold before finding a place to sleep and awakening to advance in rank. Truly, they were favored by heaven and earth; their cultivation methods were enviable indeed. The remaining fire essence that Xiao Hei hadn't absorbed was stored away; Ling Crystals were easy to find but essence was hard to come by—such resources must not be wasted.
